I love designing robots and making cool toys!
I love art toys and collect them too! It's been an obsession for over a decade. They bring inspiration around my desk as I work, fueling inspiration and creativity. Over the years of designing characters for movies, games, and my personal projects I've dreamed of one day making my own toys.
Finally, I decided to bring one of my beloved designs to life. Who doesn't love cute lovable robots, right?
I've made art books, prints, and apparel of my work in the past with great success and hope to carry that knowledge into making my first toy robot. The design is done, 3D modeled, 3D printed, 2 casts, and paint master is complete. Now we are ready for production.
Each toy will come in a beautiful full color box with foam packaging and a special trading card inside telling the back story of this adorable robot and his world.
Concept art I created that inspired the final toy design.
GETTING IT MADE
The cost for making these toys can be considerable. That is why this campaign is so important. It's such a good way to gauge how many units I should make and help offset the cost for production upfront.
The plan is to produce a run of 300. 250 will be painted like you see in the photos, Leaving a run of 50 for doing variant color combos, painted by me the artist. But, if demand is more... that number will go up and allow for all kinds of possibilities.
Stretch goals include a run of blanks (so you can paint the robot), and other variant models, helping me and you get the robot of are dreams. If we can reach up $50,000 (this would be incredible!!) I will use these funds to create 3 NEW art toy characters, launching a toy line of other unique robots and characters I already have planned.
I'm working with a highly respected art toy company in L.A. They will be managing the production and overseeing the process from manufacturing and paint to packaging and shipping the units back to my studio.

I've already invested my own funds to get things rolling up to this point. That cost included a 3D model, 3D print, mold, & 2 casts. The $8000 is required for production of the units. This will include: tooling master for molding overseas, casting of units, clean up, paint, packaging (box, foam packing), and shipping units to the U.S. from China.
I take pride in shipping my books, prints and especially this robot to the highest standards. All books are bubble wrapped, prints are set inside a plastic sleeve, and the robot toy will be packaged with foam/box inside another box filled with popcorn to guarantee a safe and damage free delivery. For domestic shipping the cost is much less, however international shipping is much more. Sorry, I blame the post office for not making this easier...
Ryan Colloway: 3D modeled my robot from my orthography, perfectly!
Images In Motion: 3D printed the master, mold, 2 casts. Did an amazing job!
Josh Melher: Videographer, shot the video and edited, master camera man!! Thank you.
Amy Bertone: Marketing consultant, thanks for your idea's and expertise, so helpful.
Risks and challenges
I feel like most of the challenges have already been met and overcome. Getting the design down, 3D modeled, and 3D printed has been a real learning experience, in a good way. The rest of this project is all about getting the units made to the standards of my painted master. One challenge is getting the swatches and coloring directions down for painting the units. I plan to send very detailed notes and pics to get the job done right! Thankfully, I'm working with a highly respected art toy maker who will be handling the overseas process.
As for packaging the rewards, I'm very experienced in this area. I've been running my online store for many years now. Packaging and shipping items is actually a lot of fun I've learned. Rest assured you will get what you donated and more!
Finally, I plan to be very transparent during the production process and informing all the backers about each step of the manufacturing, when units will officially be ready and posting videos along the way about this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
