Happy Monday! I'm here today with an update to share the Ares shirt designs. Frank Guerrero, the modern Ares in Olympia Heights, is a man of few words. Fast approaching seven feet tall, he is super-humanly strong and the center of the Olympia Heights football team.
God of War
This rich red shirt features Frank lifting a ionic column. The design below shows Ares with an animal he was often associated with: the bull. In one myth, jealous that Aphrodite was shacking up with the gorgeous Adonis, Ares turned into a bull and gored him to death. Indeed, the bull fits with the domain of Ares. While Ares was a god of civic order (policing) and courage, he was also the god of war. Unlike Athena, he didn't grant generals good strategy in mass combat. He was the god of single combat, the patron of the lone soldier looking for courage.
The Romans greatly revered his counterpart, Mars, but the Greeks were not as star-struck by the god. They saw him as a necessary but brutal god, just as blood-thirsty combat was a necessary, but unpleasant facet of ancient life.
Spread the Word
