Brilliant! follows a speckled egg through twists and turns as it arrives at a strong nest in a strong tree in a strong forest. A speckled bird hatches and develops into a red bird more brilliant than the birds that foster it. The story ends on a high note of hope as together with another brilliant red bird they find a strong tree in a strong forest, build a strong nest and wait for their speckled egg.
When worn-out parents...
read to their kids, imagine if they picked an exciting story that reminds them of the hope they have for their children to become a better version of themselves. Brilliant! is that story.
This story inspires me everytime...
I read it and that inspiration affects my kids in the best way. I am so excited at the thought of other kids getting the good stuff from their parents as a result of reading this book on a regular basis.
Your support will enable us to publish Brilliant! and get it into the hands of parents and their children. Plus, you have a chance to get the only offering of this special first edition.
To parents of adopted, fostered and special needs children:
When I meet adoptive parents or parents of special needs kids, I feel an instant bond that somehow bridges a gap between our unique experiences rehabilitating neglected children or navigating complex medical diagnoses. In our first year home we navigated 4 surgeries and a diagnosis of severe autism in addition to attachment, speech and physical therapies. I wrote this book for all parents to enjoy, and I know you will appreciate it all the more.
Adoptive/foster parents: Please pay careful attention to the symbolism used throughout the story. Without making it painfully obvious to our children this story tells their story and naturally tells your story. It reminds us of where we started and our hope for where we are going.
Parents of special need children: I know that the hope you have for your child may be very unique to them. I trust that if you read books to your child this story will encourage you, especially at the end of those long, lonely days when you feel so inadequate as a parent. I hope it will encourage you like it has already encouraged me.
Please let me know your thoughts about my story. I would love to hear from you!
Sincerely, Matt Burgess

The Story Teller
The story was developed by author Matt Burgess, whose innovative children's book called Skylar and George Washington is five-star rated on Amazon. Brilliant! was born out of Matt's experience adopting his son and daughter from China. The unique role of a parent coupled with the challenges of parenting neglected children, especially special needs children, inspired a story that will encourage other parents while entertaining their children.

Risks and challenges
The story is written. The artwork is complete. We are ready to publish!
Aside from all the obvious risks including extreme weather events, unforeseen personal matters and the end of the world risks in fulfilling the rewards in a timely manner include the following points of contact:
1. The printer. We are using one of the largest printers in the United States. Having been through the process before (with a different printer) we have followed all the printer guidelines up to this point. The approval process for printing and the actual printing of the books presents us with a handoff where the printer's staff, machinery and demand could affect the timeliness of publishing.
2. The mail. We are using one of the largest postal services in the United States. There are many factors that affect the delivery of mail which include delivery men and women, machinery (sorters, vehicles, etc), weather and other traffic snarling events that seem to happen at the most inconvenient times.
