About this project
Greetings! I am William Shatner, and I have a confession to make.
I’ve been unemployed over 400 times in my life. I’ve had to reinvent myself over and over to get hired by TV shows, movie producers, and even by Priceline.com when I was 60+ years old.
If you or someone you know is over 50 and feels like it’s too late to catch up and re-invent the second half of their lives, TRUST ME…IT’S NOT!
People over 50 have been pretty beat up lately with downsizing, a slumping economy, and so many changes in the way things work. That’s why I wrote this new book Catch Me Up and I need your help to get it to the people who need it most.
In a nutshell, this book is about two things:
1. Achieving great things in your life at any age
2. How to leverage the new technology around us today to do anything you want, at warp speed.
I have another confession. Until just recently I HATED new technology. My “smart” phone made me feel stupid. My grandkids had to show me how to use Facebook. I even refused to have an email account. You know what I found out? Without this know-how, I was becoming irrelevant…and a guy like me can’t afford to be irrelevant. So I did something about it.
I went on a mission to find people who had been laid off, lost careers, had been downsized and replaced by younger people with more tech skills; but who actually fought back and won!
Meet Cliff Brahm who left the rat race at 50, and became his own boss.
This is Dave Bateman, who left his legal practice and became a coffee farmer in Hawaii.
This is Julie Cole whose spectacular entrepreneurial spirit has grown stronger in her later years.
The biggest common denominator among the success stories in the book is that in every case these newly energized folks have discovered new technologies to create their new lives.
This is not just a book of “feel good” stories.
This is real life inspiration along with the vital tools and training needed to accomplish great things at any age!
This book and the website are labors of love. I really believe it can give hope, skills, and even community to a portion of our population that really needs it right now.
Frankly, lofty goals like this are not that appealing to big publishers. Going the traditional route would've required a number of sacrifices including a change in the overall message. So I've decided to take a page from my own book, so to speak, and use crowdsourcing to fund this project.
Through Kickstarter, I can preserve the integrity of this movement and give you, my backers, the chance to be a significant part of my cherished project. You may be asking yourself…
Most folks have parents, grandparents, an aunt or an uncle who could use some inspiration and maybe even some community. Getting this book in their hands from a guy like me might give them the inspiration to get up, dust themselves off and try again.
First of all, thank you for scrolling all the way to the bottom and for believing in my vision for Catch Me Up. To become one of my backers, just click on the big green button at the top of the page, to the right of our video. There are always risks when you self-publish verses going through a major publishing company. Will this book reach the people it needs to reach without a major distributor? Will we be able to meet the production demands of creating the physical books themselves? Will this go over budget? Will we be able successfully create the community and following we need to make this project a success without corporate backing?
