What is this?
Help! I'm Trapped In A Movie is a short comedy by Riley Madincea.
Riley is an actor, writer, and first-time film director. If you want to know everything about him you can visit his website (www.rileymadincea.com), but highlights include: his laugh, his hair, and the way he looks even better in glasses.
Seems like you're avoiding talking about this Riley guy's credentials
No, we just wanna talk about the film. There'll be a full bio later. Here's some press if you don't believe us:
"Madincea and his crew have the imagination, the talent and more to pull out an incredible and fresh short film" - imwithgeek.com

You've already hit your target- Why should I still give you money?
You are completely correct that we have hit our target, and as such now have enough funding in place to make this movie. HOWEVER, the target we set was only ever the bare minimum that we could make the project for. We want to make the film as good as it can possibly be, and to do that we need to be able to spend a little more.
We have a great crew of award winning film makers lined up, and now it's just a case of giving them the right tools to do their jobs
Ok, what's the film then?
Glad you asked...
I couldn't imagine anything worse than trying to describe every joke we've squeezed into this fast-paced and dense script. But here's a basic overview of the plot: we follow Tom, an everyman, after he finds himself trapped in a film. Tom is quickly introduced to Russell, a man who claims to be his best friend. After winning his trust, Russell takes Tom to a library to find a "Filmmaking For Dumb-Dumbs" book in order to figure out how to end Tom's nightmare. After a chance encounter with Laura the Lovely Librarian, Russell realises Tom is in a Romantic Comedy. The mission then becomes to use the Filmmaking For Dumb-Dumbs book to guide Tom to completing his Rom-Com mission with Laura The Lovely Librarian in order end the movie Tom is trapped in, and release him.
The film will be a slick, sexy, relentless chuckle fest. There's subtle nods to film and TV shows all the way through for film buffs, but the main focus is on the central narrative of a man coping with more than he bargained for when he finally gets everything he's always wanted (that plot sound familiar?). The film has to look like every movie you've ever seen in a cinema, so: detailed sets, beautiful costumes, tight editing, stunning shots, and of course, talented actors. Once completed, we'd love to take the films to any festival that would have us.
Click below to hear about how Riley came up with the film's premise:
So right now we have a script, a vision, and an incredible cast waiting in the wings. But nobody will be able to see all of it come to life without your support.
We've trimmed the budget until we've left ourselves with only what we cannot do without. That is to say: our target is the bare minimum we'd need to get this film made. Which is why we've used Kickstarter's all-or-nothing approach. If we can't raise our target, we can't make this film. It's that simple. But if we raise more we can make a better film; the film this idea deserves to be.
So, what do you need money for?
Well it's "Lights Camera Action", not "Action How will people see this?"
We will need funds for:
- film equipment rental
- location fees
- travel expenses
- post production costs
- festival entries fees
- Oh, and a film crew!
In an ideal world, we'd pay everyone who works on this film. But that is entirely dependent on your generosity. If we reached no higher than our minimum budget, most of the creatives would be working for expenses only.
How do I know I want these people to be able to pay their rent? They could all be racists or something.
Great question! Let's meet the team:
-Emily Tucker (as Laura The Lovely Librarian)-
Emily is an actress trained at Drama Centre London. Since graduating she's graced the boards at The Old Vic (Fool's Fortune), and The Arcola (A Warsaw Melody) as well as appearing in cinemas in feature film The Seasoning House. Emily also recently starred opposite Riley in the short film X&Y.
Laura the Lovely Librarian is a character that draws on the stereotypical Hollywood female; those boring "good-wife" supporting roles that actresses have had to put up with for longer than most of us would like. So, to be honest, we were a little embarrassed to even approach Emily with this role when she'd probably be capable of handling simultaneous performances of Hedda Gabler and Miss Julie. However, to our surprise, not only has Emily come onboard, but she has already brought her astounding intuition for characterisation and charming energy to the rehearsal room. She's a firecracker, and we're glad to have her in our arsenal.
-Chris Huntly-Turner (as Russell)-
Chris is an actor recently graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. Previous to his training, Chris was dominating the scene Down Under, by both appearing on Australian television (Underbelly), and giving an award-winning performance at the Sydney Fringe (The Will).
Chris is the perfect fit for Russell. He has more energy than most nuclear power plants. He's a sharp, focused and generous comedian who is the life and soul of every party. In real life he's Riley's best friend, so he's the perfect best friend to play a perfect best friend. Perfect!
-Vanessa Bailey (as Nancy)-
Vanessa is an experienced screen actress with credits including: Southcliffe, Casualty, and Doctors. She's also appeared in a variety of professional short and feature films and the odd commercial. She recently led a successful Kickstarter campaign for Three Days; a short British RomCom she wrote, produced and starred in. Vanessa and Riley are currently co-writing a feature film in early pre-production.
Nancy's role in the film is brief, but requires a strong performance to carry off successfully. Vanessa has such a flexible and playful approach to acting that we knew we could entrust her with this. Not only that, but her tenacity and experience with crowdfunding and independent filmmaking has been an invaluable resource for us. It's definitely something we've been juicing like a seven-time Tour-De-France winner. (too soon?)
-Riley Madincea (as Tom)-
Riley has worked as an actor for the last year and half having just left his actor training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD). His credits include: Shakespeare's Globe (King Lear), two feature films (Westover, Seventh Solider), a few ads (Barclays, Hilton), and numerous short films.
As a comedian, Riley has been writing and performing comedy for the last six years and made many silly YouTube videos.

So, if that's Riley, then who's the shady guy in the picture up there?
That's -Matt Day, our Producer-
Matt is an award winning filmmaker, festival screened producer and Film Production graduate who has worked on everything from feature film to documentaries to adverts. He's also a competent editor and behind-the-scenes videographer. Matt and Riley met while on location for the short film Beneath The Crooked Tree. They were Cranium partners and showed no mercy to the rest of the cast & crew.
Matt's enthusiasm for the project has undoubtedly been the most important factor in getting this film off the ground. Riley shared an early draft of the script with Matt just before Christmas, and ever since Matt has pushed Riley to refine the script to a place where making it would not be just a possibility, but be something Riley could truly be proud of. So when it came to deciding who to bring on to produce the film, Riley couldn't think of anyone more committed.
Alright, sure, Matt is pretty huggable. But what are you making this film for? You just wanna feel good about yourselves?
No, this film is for lovers of film everywhere. We want to take it to as many festivals as possible, to as many people as possible. We think we have a really funny and unique film on our hands that people will LOL if not ROFL over. The film is a celebration of film, and we want to party all night.
Party? I'm in! Do I just fork over all my money, or what?
Depends what you're after my friend, let's take a look at ...
What You Get
Here's a full breakdown of all the rewards:
***EVERY BACKER WILL RECEIVE A PERSONAL THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM RILEY***
Want just an email? Fine. Want me to call you so you can put me on speakerphone in front of your friends? Not a problem. Philanthropy is not something we do often, especially when we have no motivation but altruism. But I hope you believe in us and this project enough to know that you're helping us make something spectacular. It really can feel like a leap of faith and I want to acknowledge your trust with a personal thank you for any donation; be it the minimum pledge, or a surprise last-minute million pound donation. (we can dream)
We've tried to put together a set of packages that offers you great value for however much you can afford, because we feel that you should get as much out of your contribution as we do.
All rewards are listed as estimated delivery Jan 2015. Most rewards can be expected before then, but Jan 2015 would the absolute latest they'd arrive.
The Digital and Physical Merchandise Packs offer great value for money, giving you the chance to really get inside the film, while the choice between Digital Download and DVD copies of the film mean that you can be really flexible with your contributions while still getting the chance to see what you've helped pay for.
Digital Merch Pack includes:
- Desktop background
- Digital copy of the script
- Digital flyer
Physical Merch Pack includes:

Three lucky contributors will receive their own custom-made version of Help! I'm Trapped In A Movie. Need a romantic gesture to win back the girl of your dreams? Make you Tom, and your boss Marco to show them how much of a mentor they've been to you over the years. Or just change it so everyone's a velociraptor. Your call.
Visiting The Set:
Make your way past security and the screaming fans, and come onto our closed set. One of our more exclusive options gives you the chance to live the life of a filmmaker.
- You will be offered 2 dates/times for your visit, with slots being booked on a first come, first serve basis. Once you have booked, you will be given exact details of where and when to arrive.
- You will be met by a dedicated chaperone who will be your point of contact for the entire day. Your chaperone will run through your itinerary for the day, briefing you on the set rules and answering your questions as they go.
- An opportunity will be scheduled for you to meet members of the cast and crew, as well as allowing you onto the set to see just what is happening and how the film is progressing.
- Catering will be provided, followed by an opportunity to discuss your day with your fellow visitors, (a Q&A may also be scheduled with either the Director or Producer depending on the schedule) before a quick photo op.
As we are unable to provide dates this far in advance, we have priced this perk the same as the 'Thank You Credit' perk. If you are unable to attend either of the visits, or have to cancel for an unforeseeable reason, we will happily substitute this perk for the appropriate credit.
Travel expenses are not included, nor are any other cost incurred by selecting this perk. Unfortunately we are unable to refund top-up donations for the inclusion of the set visit in any other perk.
Be Trapped Too:
So you wanna be a star do ya? We're offering the chance for 4 budding stars to play the roles of extras (excuse us: "featured background artists") in our film.
- Spend your shoot day on set, being treated as one of the stars
- Chat to the Cast and Crew during down time, and even have dinner with the leading actors in our version of the catering tent
- Watch proudly as your friends and relatives try and spot you in the finished version of the film
Travel expenses are not included, nor are any other cost incurred by selecting this perk. Unfortunately we are unable to refund donations should you be unable to attend the shoot days, however we will endeavour to provide you with a suitable replacement perk.
Dinner With The Director:
Want to look into the eyes of pure desire? Then this reward is for you.
Director/Writer/Star of the film, Riley Madincea, has kindly offered to donate himself to the crowd funding campaign. By purchasing this reward you will be booking yourself an evening in his company for dinner at one of the locations featured in the movie (pending availability and shooting arrangements).
The exact details of this dinner are yet to be confirmed (although it is on us), but you won't find a better chance to get to know the creative spark behind this project. This really isn't an opportunity to be missed.
Travel expenses are not included, nor are any other cost incurred by selecting this perk.
The Big Cheese:
Celebratory meals are something of a tradition on a film set, with the cast and crew enjoying a fairly well behaved evening of wining and dining before the much less well behaved wrap party. And we're offering the chance for one generous benefactor to be part of that evening. In fact, we'll even schedule it around you.
This is pretty much every perk we have to offer, thrown on a plate with a cherry on top, and we will love you for a very long time if you were the person to take it up. Not only would you be getting a fantastic evening, but you would also be paying a substantial contribution toward the necessary budget for producing this film.
Travel expenses are not included, nor are any other cost incurred by selecting this perk.

Risks and challenges
Inevitably there will be unforeseen challenges with any filmmaking project, there always are, no matter how well you plan for every eventuality.
However given the previous experiences of our cast & crew we know we can overcome whatever obstacles are thrown at us.
This film will get made, and will be finished to a high standard.
The biggest risk is that we make it so well we can never top it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
