Spaceteam is a fast-paced, cooperative shouting card game where you work together to repair a malfunctioning spaceship. Coordination with your team is crucial as you try to escape an impending black hole. Success is seemingly just out of reach as you encounter one complication after another. Your only hope is to work together with your Spaceteam to repair the ship before it's too late.
This game was created by an all-star team of game-makers and creatives including Henry Smith (creator of the Spaceteam mobile game), Elan Lee (Creator of Exploding Kittens) Tommy West, Mathew Sisson, and more.
So if you're into playing card games, overhauling spaceships, discharging fluxitrons, and shouting at your friends: Help us make this game a reality!
"5 Minutes of Frantic Fun" -Geek Dad
Your goal is to ensure that all ship systems are functioning properly before time runs out. Each player must deal with the various malfunctions in their sector by flipping cards from the malfunction deck in front of them, and fixing the ship's systems. You'll have an arsenal of disorganized space tools spread among all players' hands, but finding the right tools can be harder than you think, especially when your Spaceteam is franticly worrying about malfunctions in their own sector. If that wasn’t hard enough, you’ll also have to deal with complications such as wormholes and asteroid fields, which require the coordination of the entire Spaceteam. There are no turns; everyone plays and shouts at the same time. Victory is achieved if enough malfunctions are corrected to reveal the 6 hidden System-Go Cards before time is up.
Spaceteam in Action
We took a break at the office a few days into our campaign, and shot this video to give you a better idea of what gameplay is like. That's us: Tommy West, Sergey Grigoryan, Matt Sisson, and Sandi Grigoryan! Three of us were extremely familiar with the game, but this was Sandi's first game. We used our hand drawn test deck for this session.
In 2012, Henry Smith quit his job as a programmer at BioWare to spend a year making indie games. The first game was Spaceteam, and it turned out to be an indie smash-hit with over 3 million downloads across dozens of countries in 11 different languages. The mobile game was critically acclaimed in the indie gaming world, receiving numerous awards and accolades including Best Interactive Game (IndieCade 2013), Most Amazing Indie Game (Indie Game Awards 2013), Most Innovative Game (International Mobile Gaming Awards 2013), and praise from at least 30 publications (that we know of). Three years later, Henry is still making indie games and has no plan to return to a traditional job.
In late 2014, Henry teamed up with Tommy West and Matt Sisson to create a table top version of Spaceteam. Throughout 2015, the team experimented on and off with different concepts, from complex board games to strategy based card and token games, but ultimately settled on a party-style card game which stayed true to the original mobile game. The team grew as Henry, Tommy and Matt recruited additional talent from the gaming and design world to ensure this game would live up to its name and roots.
Spaceteam has already proven itself and made history with its initial launch in 2013, and now we're bringing it to the tabletop!
Help Us Build This Game
We're putting it on Kickstarter because it's the best way to get input and feedback from you, our community! It's also the only way for us to get this to you for the holiday season, and make some pretty Space-tastic game upgrades!
So, if jumping aboard a clunky malfunctioning spaceship & joining a Spaceteam is a dream you'd like to fulfill, back our project and help us make this game.
Risks and challenges
The product itself is a card game, and we've made those and other more complicated products before, so this will be relatively straight-forward. Our biggest obstacle is getting this to you by the holidays, but fear not, we're working with the amazing people at Admagic, the manufacturer of Cards Against Humanity and Exploding Kittens, to make our best effort to get this game to you as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
