Penny Chee would like to write books about Santa Rosa. She has fun stories about children in high school adventures with her green van.
Penny Chee taught Mathematics in Santa Rosa for over 35 years. Many of her students are now grandparents. She now has great grandchildren living in Santa Rosa, California. She taught at Lawrence Cook Middle School and Santa Rosa Junior High. Her sons and grandchildren attended Santa Rosa Junior College, Montgomery High School, Santa Rosa High School, Herbert Slater Middle School, Strawberry Elementary School and Yulupa Elementary School. Her children and grandchildren worked in high volume restaurants from Bennett Valley to Downtown Fourth Street and helped with the Sonoma County Fair as well as Farmers Market. Penny Chee had a green colored van that drove around Santa Rosa with thousands of students since the early Eighties. The students traveled in Penny Chee's green van from the parking lot on Friday from Santa Rosa High School to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Avenue of the Giants, Russian River, Salmon Creek Beach, Eel River, Yosemite National Park, ski trips to Reno, Nevada, vacation camping trips to Lake Tahoe, U2 concerts and trade shows at the Cow Palace, history trips in Old Sacramento, baseball trips, restaurants in San Francisco's North Beach, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, and for many students these trips in the green van were the students first trips visiting outside of Santa Rosa. Penny Chee paid for her students gas costs, food expenses, and parking, but never asked for favors in return from parents or children passengers. She bought the best Math books for her students with her own money when the school could not buy the boxes of books she needed to teach with. Her family has been involved in sports, student government, leadership teams, and she wants to promote Santa Rosa. Penny Chee wants to write books and educate tourists to the wonders in Santa Rosa, California.
