Give your imaginary hero a corporeal home.
HeroBook is a beautifully-bound A5 notebook made specifically for tabletop RPGs like 5th Edition. By simply using it to help you play the game and recording your account of the stories you weave with your friends, you create an artifact of your character's saga that will last a lifetime.
The essential 5E companion
HeroBook is packed with rules and references for 5th Edition, containing everything you need to play the game in a quick, easy reference format. Using the included tools, create a character from scratch using nothing but your HeroBook and your dice. Keep those heavy hardcover books and loose, disorganized note paper in your bag of holding - and keep that smartphone in your pocket!
Stay ready for adventure
HeroBook has a reusable character sheet on the inside cover that works with wet and dry erase markers, so you'll never need to reprint your character sheet or scribble over outdated stats ever again. The coated, erasable surface allows you to write and erase your hit points, track your spell slots, and update your ability modifiers over and over as your hero's story grows. A full character section inside the book records your more permanent details, and a second reusable surface on the inside back cover gives you extra space for erasable notes.
Chronicle your hero's story
At the back of your HeroBook are plenty of blank note pages to keep track of spells, equipment, or anything else your quest might throw at you. The unique 4-in-1 note paper combines lines for writing, grids and isometric dots for maps, and blank pages for sketching. With time, use, and customization, your HeroBook grows into an artifact of your character's adventures - and should they ever face defeat, it becomes a cherished relic of memorable moments.
+1 material components
I've chosen high quality materials to ensure your HeroBook looks incredible and lasts a lifetime. The heavy 100lb cover stock keeps your character sheet in pristine shape, and inside, the 70lb acid-free satin paper provides an excellent writing surface and preserves your notes and drawings for eons. Even after you say goodbye to your character or your campaign, HeroBook makes an eye-catching conversation piece and the exposed smyth-sewn spine looks awesome on your shelf.
High constitution score
Your HeroBook is constructed using extremely durable Smyth sewing, the highest quality book binding available. The pages are physically sewn into the book with thread, in the same fashion as archival-quality textbooks, ensuring every page remains strong and sturdy from 1st to 20th level and beyond. This type of binding allows the book to lay completely flat no matter what page you are on, so not only is it comfortable to write in, but you'll never have to fumble through stiff pages when you need your attack modifiers or the name of the NPC you're hunting down.
Druid-approved & environmentally friendly
I'm thrilled to be working with Hemlock Printing, a 50-year institution in my hometown of Vancouver, to produce the first print run. They have received the Gold Canadian Printing Award for Most Environmentally Progressive Printing Company nine out of the last ten years, and HeroBook will be printed in a carbon neutral facility that recycles 99% of its waste. All paper materials used in HeroBook are 100% post-consumer recycled, and recognized by the Forest Stewardship Council, an international organization supporting sustainable forestry. Even your hippie druid in her tree bark armor approves!
Five cover options for heroes of any alignment
HeroBook will be available in FIVE gorgeous cover options, one of which will be chosen by backers! You'll choose your cover options at the conclusion of the campaign via a backer survey. Designs are subject to change based on feedback.
Don't forget your other adventuring gear!
I've prepared three great add-ons to ensure you get everything you need to set out on your quest. To get any of these rewards, simply add the corresponding amount to your pledge, and we'll contact you after the campaign ends to determine which add-ons you want. Prices are in Canadian dollars, so approximately $3.20 / $6.40 USD. Exact appearance of add-ons is subject to change.

History of the HeroBook Project
Find us on social media
Who's behind the project?
My name is Sean Hallaren. I'm a graphic designer and avid tabletop gamer from Vancouver, Canada. I've been enjoying tabletop games for about eight years as both a player and game master. I'm armed with over ten years of experience creating printed products, websites, and promotional videos. My day job has me assisting a wide variety of clients with website and graphic design needs, and in my personal life I'm an fervent video gamer, cyclist, and hockey super-fan. HeroBook has been my passion project for three years and I'm so thrilled to finally bring it out of my brain and onto Kickstarter! Got any questions about me or my background? I'd love to hear from you on Twitter or Instagram, or simply submit your message through Kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
I've identified four areas of potential risk should the campaign reach its funding goal.
DESIGN: Much of the design and layout of the product is already complete. Changes will be made to the final design as art assets are added and feedback is gathered from backers, but I have allocated ample time for this in the estimated delivery dates.
PRINTING: I have worked closely with Hemlock, my book printer, to create the prototype, and I'm very happy with the product. As a large, well-recognized printing company with over 50 years of experience and a long list of satisfied customers, I do not anticipate problems with printing even if demand is higher than expected. Working with a local printer, rather than one overseas, allows me to be closely involved in the production process and gives me the ability to react quickly should a problem arise. Nevertheless, I have budgeted extra time for the printing process.
ADD-ONS: Although I do not foresee any problems with procuring add-on items, I have prepared backups for all three in the event that a problem occurs and we need an alternate supplier.
SHIPPING: I have three potential shipping providers ready to go, based in Canada and the United States, to handle shipping of rewards. Which one I choose will be based on the volume of books to be shipped, as well as the geographical distribution of backers. I have budgeted extra time for shipping to ensure we can deliver your HeroBooks by the expected date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
