Agree it's high time to do realistic testing in a minefield. There are so many different mine types, not sure how well the equipment will survive triggering even the small ones. You cannot learn what works without exposing the concept to the actual environment it is to operate in. Engineering is difficult, time-consuming work but it will pay off if not shielded from the real world. GPS mapping is a good idea if it can help you know where the threats have been detected, and if it can help you return to destroy the mine and verify it is gone, but this seems more like a long-term project given the difficulties of detecting, mapping and detonating mines from the air. In the meantime the Kafons should be tested ASAP to see if they will work as well as hoped. Good Luck!

I'm glad to finally hear that you will be field testing the Kafon's. I've kept the faith that your commitment to this project would save lives. I have watched and wondered when the GPS codes would come that meant the Kafon's were rolling across the landscape and lives were being saved. I have understood that traveling and giving talks would generate more interest and more money for the Kafon's. But, I am sorry to see that developing drones to watch has halted deploying Kafon's into the fields that so desperately need them. I'm glad that you're winning awards Massoud Hassani. I will be far gladder when it starts saving lives. Backing Mine Kafon was my Christmas gift to myself that year, and I spent far more than I would have spent otherwise because I could imagine no better gift than to see a child live because a mine was detonated harmlessly.

      Thanks for the good news.
It will be wonderful if the MineKafon get independent and perform good work.
      Hi-technology is good but I like the base-concept that is "low-cost, wind-powered,
So please continue to work on this project if the new project starts.
(I hope that both two project effects to each other, and create the more innovative one)
I happy to hear that this project grown like this.
Go your way!! More updates is every time welcome :)

Another year later, and it's good to see that you're **finally** getting back to doing what you originally promised. I look forward to interesting results.

I guess the best case is you fell into the engineer's trap - "with just a little more time and effort we could add this cool feature". The worst case is that you spent the time travelling the globe on other people's money.

Either way while your intentions may be good, I've lost faith in your ability to deliver and I won't be backing the second project.

      But best wishes anyhow.

      Hey Guys!
-The final DIY Mine Kafons are finished and were exhibited earlier this year in Eindhoven.
-The DIY manuals are going online asap. People will be able to create their own MK.
-GPS mapping is in process, please check out the concept layouts here
      - In the past 2 years we have been mainly working on the Mine Kafon robotics and its platform. We just finished the first testing rounds. A full update will be posted on our KS page and what are the next steps :)
      - Please meet our team here

      > Here is the new website
The website returns error code 500.

Please update the project or close it (with some sort of statement).
After 2 years I can imagine that all of the bugdet has been spent, it would be nice for you to tell us what you have achieved (and what not and why) and just close this so that we all can move on.

      Thank you!

Any news? Another year on - pretty design, a few concept awards, but any actual mine clearing???

    10. Seb on April 4, 2015

You will receive private access to the Mine Kafon website. Here you will be able to track the GPS location of the Kafon as it travels from the Netherlands to the location and across the Mine Field.

      Estimated delivery: Mar 2013

--- see --- this is why I decided for myself, never to support any kickstarter projects in the future.
Fame and hype went above the original mission. Btw it's 2 years since then - spare us with the "busy" things

Received rewards with thanks. Unfortunately the case (nice design) split after a couple of weeks. Superglue worked well until it split next to the glue. Glad the project went so well for you guys.

I've been following Mine Kafon's development for a couple of years now, or maybe longer! - and am amazed at the patience, tenacity and dedication that Massoud and team have to keep working towards the goal of making this brilliant idea become a reality - that is, to rid Afghanistan and many other countries of land mines. Thanks for the updates and good luck with the Rotterdam Design Prize!

It will be hope of many people in Afghanistan.
Mine Kafon is evolved to 2.0. I'd like to read more information of this evolution and development.
      Update is welcome :-)

Keep going, and get your dreams.

Well, after almost a year I would like to hear about some tests in the mine field. Any small attempt to do that?

There's also a change of the Mine Kafon design, from sphere to cylinder. Any chance to provide some insights of the reasons for the change?

Honestly I would like this to work in real terrain, no pressure, you probably have plenty of stakeholders to overcome. But just need more information on your progress.

(single) lampshade arrived and is hanging in the entry hall. Looks rather good and works quite OK with an E14 energy saving lamp (7W). I wonder how the project itself is going, I hope it's actually going to work in real minefields.

    19. Laina Reynolds Levy on November 14, 2013

Any chance the 3 lampshade reward will be shipped this year? I'm OK waiting, but I'd love to hear an estimated shipping date. Or just an update on progress.

      Hi Sven,

      Thanks for your message.
At the shipping company they refused to send the packages, because they were 30 grams to heavy. so we had to repackage everything and move all the protection foils out. That is also the reason yours got damaged. I will send you a new lampshade right away then.

    24. Sven Claessens on September 2, 2013

Hi, lamp arrived last week. Unfortunately it got (a bit) damaged during transport, perhaps due to the lack of any protective foil (well, there was one chip of foam in it and a deflated plastic bag). Next time please pay some attention to this. Thanks.

    25. Tim Evans on August 28, 2013

I got to vote for you to win the peoples choice award on CNN and my lamp arrived in the mail today in Australia.

I hope you guys keep making progress and getting the attention that this idea deserves.

    30. Robert Gattung on August 1, 2013

My cover and postcards arrived just yesterday. And I have to say the cover fits perfectly and works great. BUT even it didn't I wouldn't actually mind - the main goal is not the cover or the postcards, it's the Mine Kafon. I hope to see it soon in action and help people. The rest is just a bonus.

    31. Jonathan Barrett on July 30, 2013

@Urs: the cheapest one you've ever seen you say? Have you never seen those Rubber penguins and cassette tapes, etc, that practically loosely hang onto you iPhone?

    32. Tommy on July 27, 2013

My phone has been in the iPhone 5 case since it arrived and I find that it is a quality case. No problem with the fitting and I have none of the issues like some of the other backers have. I guess I am just lucky.
And I am just wondering if there is any update on the project itself? Any mine has been set off by it yet?

    33. Urs on July 18, 2013

Received my iPhone 4S case today.
It arrived damaged, looks terrible, and with my company name on it instead of my own name. it's the cheapest iPhone case i ever saw in my life. Completely different than the images on the project page where it looked amazing. That's too bad...

    34. Meta Neuschuler on July 17, 2013

I got my iPhone case and it looks great! I guess I misunderstood, I thought at the £25 level, we were also to get the postcards. Am I mistaken? I wish you all the best, great project, I'm proud to be a backer. Meta {:)

My iPhone 5 case arrived this morning! It looks great and fits smugly, perhaps too smugly… The only thing I'm perplexed by is that the actual Kafon part has strange grey strips? Still can't complain, this wasn't about iPhone cases, but the Mine Kafon itself! Good luck on finishing it, make us proud!

    37. Tim Evans on May 28, 2013

Hey Dave. I'm in the Goulburn Valley. Its not exactly nearby but its a nice idea.

    38. Dave Shelling on May 28, 2013

@Tim, where in Australia are you? I am in Canberra, if you are nearby maybe we should match postage addresses and save Massoud some cash?

    39. Tim Evans on May 25, 2013

I'm an international backer, all the way in Australia. When your sending the reward all the way out here I was figuring you would put up something for paying for postage as "every life counts", rather than posting packages and I was expecting to pay a fair price for getting something to the other side of the world.

I guess my question is do I need to pay more for postage?

And I am still really proud of helping you try something special.

    40. Dave Shelling on May 20, 2013

Massoud, thank you. I am looking forward to getting the smart postcards, so I can show people what I have been raving about!

    41. Massoud Hassani 2-time creator on May 18, 2013

we will send the surveys just before everything is ready to be shipped, in case if somebody is moving from one place to another.
will do an update on that as well.

    42. Dave Shelling on May 17, 2013

How do you know where to send the rewards? I don't remember filling in a survey or anything?

    43. Jonathan Barrett on May 16, 2013

Makes sense! An update about that would have been nice though…

    44. Massoud Hassani 2-time creator on May 14, 2013

      Hi Jonathan and Len,

At the moment we are making a deal with the shipping company to send as much as we can at once, in order to save costs.

    45. Jonathan Barrett on May 14, 2013

Hey just a comment to also inquire about the rewards, though I'm not as bothered as the last poster. Just that, I'm at the iPhone case tier, which in the last update you'd said would be sent early the next week. That was a couple weeks ago, and we haven't heard anything since, so I wanted to check to see if there have been delays on your end, or if it's just that shipping is taking a while. And if the latter, if you had any idea how long I should wait until I worry about it being lost in the post? I'm in the UK…
Also to the last poster, in the last update, they said they would be shipped around now, so assuming no delays on their end, it should be on it's way, or departing soon. However, I have no idea how long shipping will take, especially for an item of that size.

      Dear Massoud,

I contributed to your project many months ago. For me, the contribution was substantial! To date, I have not got any idea when to expect the promised lamp. This experience has left me somewhat cynical about the Kickstarter concept, although I know of another creator who was quick to provide the incentive to contribute. I hope you will respond promptly and restore my faith in KickStarter.

      Please respond.
