The Master Mason – A Treatise on the Third Degree of Freemasonry
The final step in the symbolic journey of becoming a Master Freemason.
At long last, the journey of the Symbolic Lodge reaches its culmination in the becoming of a Master. This book, third in the series (The Apprentice and Fellow of the Craft), explores the deeper meaning in the symbolism of the third degree of Freemasonry as a master mason.
This campaign is the culmination of its two previously funded predecessors and both a means to bring this contribution of the Great Work to life and create a special one-of-a-kind offering to memorialize its publication.
My name is Greg Stewart; I write and publish under the pen name Masonic Traveler. As a student of the Western Mystery traditions, I have studied and written about the various aspects of the Hermetic and Esoteric Arts for more than 20 years. This project, The Master Mason, is the third work to evolve out of a series written for a small Masonic study circle. Its fundamental purpose is the exploration into the third degree of initiation in the Masonic tradition.
This campaign follows its two predecessor campaigns, in 2014 and 2015, where nearly 100 backers (on Kickstarter and offline) helped bring these works to life. With this campaign, I am seeking your support to help bring to life the publication of my next book, The Master Mason.
Your support goes into the production, copyediting, set-up and production costs and the reward deliverables.
What’s inside: The text of this book is the original work of the author including original never before published text, meditative poetry written specifically for this publication and original illustrations created by the author.
Aspects of the book include:
- Esoteric connections between Freemasonry, Tarot the Kabbalah and other traditions.
- Corollaries with Albert Pike's Morals and Dogma.
- Connections and parallels with other esoteric traditions.
- And considerations beyond the masonic aspects of the third degree of Freemasonry.
This book is the third of three major works on the subject in this series. By itself, this work functions as an independent study text for long time masons, new mason and for those interested in the symbolism of the Freemasonry.
Your investment in this campaign will help me bring this series to life and add new considerations to your own Masonic journey.

For those new to the subject matter of this campaign, Freemasonry is a post-collegiate fraternity dedicated to the spiritual development of the initiate into a broader sense of the self, how he relates to the Divine and his contributory role in the world. It conveys this message through a series of progressive degrees initiating the candidate into a deeper level of understanding and membership. Ultimately, the raised Master Mason is given the allegorical tools to further work on an develop their Masonic intuition.
Risks and challenges
I have learned a lot from the first two publications. In the Apprentice, the lesson learned was trying to produce something so close to the holidays. (Some places and things really do stop production a month before the end of the year). With Fellow of the Craft, I learned the lesson of proper budgeting (and campaign goals). With this in mind, this campaign has “adjusted” cost projections. I’ve been down this road and have taken the planning precautions to avoid these pitfalls. Specifically, the campaign goal is higher than its predecessors and is slated to go into full production in the third quarter of 2017with delivery for the end of the year.
But, as before, the unforeseen pitfalls are time and effort.
Hard risks include production delays (in printing), any delays in producing the layouts, or any other unforeseen technical hiccups. So, by avoiding the holidays, setting the funding goal higher, and working hard (with your help) I will be able to meet the challenge of bring this book to life.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
