We are showing only sketches because most of these new cards will feature our backers.
We can unlock all these stretch-goals for a highly reduced price because we do not have to manufacture the game yet - we can focus on the artwork and the new mechanisms without worrying about increasing the manufacturing costs. These unlocked stretch-goals will be included both in the PnP and the physical product.
We will announce further stretch-goals soon.
Runes of Mayhem is a fast, competitive, historical tactical card game for two, with a complete set of artistically designed, colorful cards and game elements that turn players into Viking raiders and Anglo-Saxon defenders. Rule the battlefield with powerful formations and lead your forces with mighty heroes. Overcome your opponent, destroy his fortress and reap the spoils of war! How will you earn victory?
Runes of Mayhem is highly enjoyable from the very first play, with a level of tactical depth that makes it feel like a Wargame. Intense, yet lightweight, the game can be played with offensive or defensive strategies, and allows building momentum and speed as well as pausing for a while and trading. Many paths lead to victory, but only if you pay close attention and grasp the pace of the game. In Runes of Mayhem, you decide what road to take!
We canceled the first campaign of Runes of Mayhem because we had decided to redesign the game in order to reduce the costs of both the shipping and the manufacturing in every possible way for the future relaunch. We will also redesign all the stretch goals.
Thank you for your past feedback and tips! We will do our utmost to ensure our backers will have the best Runes of Mayhem experience for an optimal price. We've created this small, pre-campaign before our relaunch to have our game played by as many of you as possible.
We would like to hear the opinion of you. We promise to communicate with you during and after the campaign's end and will collect your feedback regularly with Google Forms. What would you change? What do you like? Our aim is to form the future of Runes of Mayhem in line with the community's wish.
We will use the funds acquired with this Print and Play campaign to embetter Runes of Mayhem, we will create new artworks among else. We will also manufacture more betas and get them to be played by Youtubers.
Print and Play (PnP) is a great way to play a game for just a few bucks.
Print the game at home or at a business offering printing services, cut it and go on the raid with us!
Please note all the written reviews are of the printed Beta without any stretch-goals.

The players face each other on the battlefield, they create powerful formations and lead their forces to victory with the aid of mighty kings. The game features tokens and dice expanding it beyond the limits of a mere card game, creating an exciting combination of tactics and luck.
Runes of Mayhem is a game where choosing the right units, using the proper abilities and formations are vital, but luck matters too - after all, you cannot wholly control the mayhem of an epic battle. If you play your cards right and lead your units as a true tactician, you can render your opponent unable to roll, eliminating most of the luck factor.
For an in-depth look at the gameplay and the game mechanics, check out these videos or read the rulebook below:
Runes of Mayhem requires custom dice to be played (with sides: 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3).
For the Print and Play version, just use two or three standard dice.
Or convert the pips by dividing the number by 2 and rounding down. (Method suggested by Steph and Philippe, thanks!)
Our aim with the artwork is to be historical, rather than mythical in accordance with the game's theme. Gergely Nagy, our artist draws each and every piece of art digitally. The creation of one piece can take up to 12 hours. Check out how an illustration is made from sketch:
In the following, you can read Gergely Nagy's commentary:
'During the creation of the imagery of Runes of Mayhem, my primary aim was not authenticity, but credibility to my figures. That being said we did extensive research both in libraries and online to create the perfect picture.'
'During these historical times, both the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons dressed pretty similarly, their armors and weapons can barely be differentiated by the uninitiated eye. And so, it has been a true challenge to create such figures that can be easily distinguished from one another. Not only just the two different factions but within the factions.'
'Even though a Viking swordsman had the same leather armor, hair, and beard, just as a spearman, we had to differentiate the two somehow, so when the players look at the cards they can instantly recognize the type of the units.'
'All figures are different from one another, both in equipment, face, and style. Therefore I did not aim for total authenticity, else we would have pretty similar chainmail armors and helmets on every card. Rather I have created an alternative reality for the game, where we call one faction Anglo-Saxons, and the other Vikings. It really is similar to the real Medieval world, but still remains an alternative, elevated reality where every last peasant is a badass, and the bishop is a tough guy too.'
This is the world of Runes of Mayhem.

Risks and challenges
We've canceled the first campaign of Runes of Mayhem and created this small, pre-campaign before the relaunch to make sure the second time we go live we can provide the best possible Viking Card game experience. We have been working on Runes of Mayhem since January 2017. Two friends teamed up then later more joined. All our team members are experienced in their our own field, but this is our first Kickstarter game. That being said we will do our best to include you in the process and incorporate your ideas, to create a game to be enjoyed by many.
