About this project
From 2011 to 2012, I was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as a U.S. Marine where I had the honor and the privilege of knowing several young Afghan girls: Parwana, Khorshid, and of course, Marza. These three sisters genuinely touched my heart and to this day, I will never forget them. I am making this film (and would truly love to FINISH this film) to honor and remember them.
This is my second Kickstarter campaign. I launched my first campaign one year ago in order to raise funds to shoot the film Marza (pre-production and production budget). Thanks to many generous donors, we reached our goal and shot the film in April. However, I did not account for how expensive post-production, film festival submissions, and other costs would be.
Since we already shot the film on RED Epic and Scarlet cameras, we have all of the footage ready to cut. However, I need to raise our final funding amount of $5,000 to progress from production to post-production (editing on Avid, scoring with a composer/musicians, etc.), and to complete the film just in time for east and west coast screenings of Marza in December.
Additionally, if our $5,000 goal is reached, the film will participate in the 2014 National and International Film Festival Circuits - pending the submission/selection process of course!
My first Kickstarter campaign raised $5,000. Due to the actual production budget (not my initial/projected budget), I matched that amount with my own funds, which brought me to "starving artist status" for a little while. This covered the then-current budget of $10,000.
With this second and final campaign of $5,000, the film's total production budget would be $15,000, resulting in the completion of Marza. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you for your time!
Risks and challenges
Regan A. Young, writer/director of Marza, is a former U.S. Marine with eight years of honorable active duty service. He served overseas for 5 tours including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. At this point in the filmmaking process, the only setback Marza could experience is not being finished and released due to lack of funds. However, if the final amount of $5,000 is raised, there will be nothing standing in the way of this film's completion.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
