Races of New Era (RONE) is a strategic post-apocalyptic card game for 2 or 4 players set in a dark world full of destruction and suffering. It combines exciting and unique card game mechanics with enormous possibilities of how to play the game.
You will recruit soldiers, battle machines, powerful hybrids and tremendous mutants into your army; then equip them with the available technologies and show your enemies who rules the new world order.
The game is standalone, so you will find everything you need in one box.
RONE will be done in 3 languages – English, German and Czech.
Remember, that in the beginning of December we will run Spiele-Schmiede campaign for German speaking backers and German language would be available to choose at Kickstarter only and only if Spiele-Schmiede campaign would be successful. In other words you can back this project with Early bird here, but you will take risk that if Spiele-Schmiede does not success you will have to choose English or Czech version of the game. Early bird would not be available at Spiele-Schmiede.
Genetic engineering and body implants reached a peak and genetic and mechanic modifications of the human body have become a normal part of life. Greediness and overpopulation of human race continuously escalated and life on the planet started to be severe. People began to suffer from water scarcity and armed conflicts have became an everyday reality. It was just a matter of time that the outcome of international tensions resulted in the first nuclear war.
The war evaporated every achievement of the human race, leaving behind only a handful of usable resources for the remaining scattered groups of survivors. Now, they must fight each other for dominance over the remnants of the past. Welcome to the New Era!

During development we created a large number of cards so that each card has the most distinct set of abilities and effects. However, we do not want to make starter set so large and unnecessarily expensive for someone who just wants to try it out. Therefore, we decided to split the cards into two packages.

The Core set contains simple abilities and effects that allow beginners to slip into the game almost immediately. It is usually sufficient to play one game to familiarize yourself with the basic principles. Each copy of the RONE Core set should include the following components:

We have prepared for you an “almost” fully functional shuffle mode of RONE on Tabletopia (www.tabletopia.com). Here you can test the game to ensure that you are not going to buy a pig in a poke. Just try this link (http://beta.tabletopia.com/play/rone-private-uerifp/) and you will be transferred directly to the game lobby, take the seat and wait for your opponent or just look at the cards. You can find there everything necessary to play the game (beta rulebook included). Remember that Tabletopia is still in development and it is only a beta version. It's still missing some functionality that is key to our game, but we were assured that they have already begun to implement them. Soon you can expect improvements.
Current Situation of Spiele-Schmiede campaign: +3200 USD
If this campaign is close to being funded, then we will start a second campaign with our partner Spiele-Schmiede. All funds collected over the Spiele-Schmiede campaign count as it was collected through Kickstarter and it will unlock new Stretch goals and Achievements. Remember, that Spiele-Schmiede does not affect reaching the initial "FUNDED" goal.
In RONE each player starts the game with 24 playing cards, 3 hero cards and 5 technologies cards. Your goal is to destroy all opponent’s playing cards in hand and player’s deck.
Players are in the game represented by their hero, play units and one-time effects (tactics) in an attempt to destroy all cards from the opponent’s deck. The number of cards in the deck and the player’s hand connect to the number of health points of player's hero, so for each damage that the player or his hero gets, he has to destroy one of his cards – from the top of his deck or from his hand. Once a player loses all cards from his deck and hand, he loses the game.
Because each card player uses during the game cost them a life, players are forced to play cards as efficiently as possible so that each played card does more damage to the enemy than to themselves. All mechanisms combined create a well-balanced gaming environment where any inappropriate move and unplanned action can lead to your defeat. Every decision is tightly and carefully connected to each other and even a seemingly minor decision has potential to completely change the course of the game.
Players must balance investment into control of the board, which allows them to trade cards more effectively, with investment into killing an enemy hero, which is the primary goal. This means that it is necessary to control damage output wisely. It's easy to fill the enemy graveyard with destroyed cards. But consider, they are additional resources that can be exchanged with cards from his graveyard and returned back into the game. So instead of dealing massive amounts of damage directly to the enemy hero, waiting sometimes has its benefits.
Timing of the attacks, card activation, graveyard management and tactical decisions are the real keys to the victory.

Anatol Vrasov - The Insane Geneticist
Anatol is a well know and famous Russian geneticist who started to combine human and plant DNA together. Tests on humans were forbidden, so he decided to test all of his experiments on himself. A cult that developed around his person began to spread rapidly and the number of Anatol’s followers began to converge people from all over the world who wanted to try on their own possibilities of this awesome genetic mutation. The Anatolse’s power in activating his servants faster than his opponent makes him extremely dangerous and you need to play really carefully against him, because his powerful army can destroy you quickly and easily.
Alim Maki - The Hybrid Terrorist
Alim Maki, the most wanted terrorist in the world, who stands behind the start of the first nuclear war is a hybrid leader of the Iraq’s terrorist fraction called – Freedom. Alim’s technical skills allow him to boost his followers by various hybrid implants. All Alim’s powers are mainly focused on recycling system and allows him to recycle cards in an extremely efficient manner. His graveyard is his the most dangerous weapon, so try to clean his graveyard before he punishes you.
Oleg - The Chaos Bringer
Oleg, is a robot designed and manufactured in Ukraine and created to defend important locations in a hostile place. This robot is probably the last one who survived the apocalypse, but the best one in his job. His pulse gun and ionic shield can disperse an enemy army in the second. Oleg’s passive power is focused on defending and slowly taking game control. You are in big troubles if you have less units on the battlefield, so try to keep it unit counts in low numbers. Remember that his cannon hurts!
Ohin Waseg - The Nanobiot Leader
Nanobiots are people who survived direct nuclear war because of small nano-robots circulating in their blood. This robots and radiation together make these people extremely resistant. Led by Ohin, the self-appointed leader, this survivability created from a nanobiots is a real threat which sows destruction everywhere it goes. Ohin’s power is focused on boosting his army. His weak and tricky followers can easily vanish your strong army in seconds, so play wisely against him.
Rupert Holz - The father of the Dawn
Rupert Holz is the mathematician who created the Dawn faction of survivors in Europe. This faction is well known for its passivity, it is focused on rebuilding new cities and renewing old technologies. Order and obedience are the main rules of this faction. But many clans and groups failed in an attempt to steal their technology and supplies. Rupert’s powers are very versatile and can be used either offensively or defensively. His power allows him to slow down enemy units and disable them to do sneaky attacks, but it might be also played aggressively. So be ready for anything if you are playing against him.
Paso - The Body Eater
The New Era brings new opportunities! There are so many dead bodies everywhere and somebody must get rid of them. Spanish engineers have developed a new machine called "Paso" that will help them with this unpleasant waste effectively. Paso is designed to devour rotting corpses which give it different abilities. Paso's active power can copy other effects so be careful what you play against him, to avoid being killed by your own weapon.
My name is Štěpán Štefaník and I am the creator of RONE card game. I am enthusiastic board game (especially card game) player who wanted to create something that meets his needs. Something that is easy to learn and play, but hard to win. I worked on this game for 6 years and during the development I found awesome artists, testers, and other people who helped me to finish the game in a quality I want. Without these people it would have been absolutely impossible to finish the game.
I will post more inside information about all the people cooperating on the game during the campaign.
Risks and challenges
Most of the challenges regarding this project are already in the past. We found a supplier, artists, determined the exact components and determined the costs and prices.
We have established relationships with several traditional manufacturing companies who have a proven track record of creating great games with high quality components.
Finally, international distribution is always a challenge, but our experienced partner "Spiele-Schmiede" can handle it easily.
Meanwhile, we are still investing much effort into testing and balancing the game because there is always room for improvement.
