The $350,000 stretch goal has been reached!

You all make us so happy! Your continued support and interest in Memoto is fantastically astounding and humbling. Thank you all so much!

We can't tell you how excited we are to bring the Memoto camera and experience to life. This is Incredible! We've reached the $350,000 stretch goal, so that means we will be able to add these 3 new features:

1. An option to retain photos stored locally when syncing the camera through a computer.

When synching the Memoto Camera to your computer, you will have the option to store photos locally as well as uploading to the cloud. This also guarantees the Memoto Camera will remain useful even in the event you decide to cancel your subscription.

2. Manual double-tap photo capture that will be bookmarked on the timeline.

Double tapping triggers the camera and you are sure to have a picture of that exact point in time. The double-tap feature will also bookmark the photo so it's easy to find when viewed in the Memoto app.

3. The ability to adjust the interval of the photos.

You'll be able to choose at what interval the photos are taken from the Memoto app.

Check out our last post for more details on these great features all made possible by YOUR support!

We will be announcing another stretch goal soon! What do you all think should be the next reward? Stay tuned.

Hi Dan, thanks for reaching out! That's a good question - yes, you will still be able to reach your own device settings through the desktop app even if you don't connect to our cloud service. It's just a matter of firmware settings, no online connection needed. Appreciate your support, all the best! /Niclas Johansson

Hey there, I really like Number 3. The ability to adjust the interval of the photos although I have a quick question. If I choose to cancel my subscription, I won't be able to use the app that comes with memoto (you've stated this in the faq). Will I still be able to adjust the interval? Thanks, keep up the good work and good luck :)

@Sam - That's a cool idea, we'll keep it in mind. It does go along with our vision about community-driven product development. Thanks for the input!

      Best regards, Niclas

@Jason - It's off the table as far ass "inside the device" goes. But look at our latest update and stretch goal, I hope you like the workaround! Thanks for your question, we appreciate your support!

      Best regards, Niclas

How about changeable covers? If this is a device you plan to wear every day (or at least a lot of days in a row), the same bright orange thing might not match all occasions. I notice with the fuelband that women stop wearing them when the band does not match their clothing.

Is it possible to upload a 3D model of the cover to thingiverse? I would like to give my (limited) modeling skills a go at making alternative covers for the device:)

Is bluetooth connectivity off the table? It seems like it would be a useful way to sync on the go

can you open more slots in the $199 option? reaaally want one but i just don't have the money to fork over an extra 50 bucks :(

@Gisberto We are taking photo quality into account, of course, but we are not trying to compete with a point and shoot camera. Please see the @Skeam response just below. Best /Sarah

@Darran We do have a solution to this up our sleeves, which we have not made public yet. Hopefully, we will be able to finalize our thoughts around it in time to present during November. Stay tuned! /Sarah

Just a thought, can you add support for micro SD card, so the storage won't be a problem and size(I'm not sure what is the size of chip to handle micro SD card) is not changed, hopefully

Something to think about (in a positive manner of course!) - perhaps this could be catered for in an additional stretch target somehow? My thinking took me to when would I most use this. At work - probably not. At the weekend - yes. On holiday? Absolutely. When I'm on holiday, I'm unlikely to take a laptop with me - therefore the 48 hour battery and 2 days worth of storage space would be an issue - if I'm away for a week or two. I now take all manner of USB chargers away with me (iPod, Kindle etc. etc.) so one more to charge the Memoto with via a USB cable which will already be supplied isn't an issue. How could the storage issue be managed? Could it download onto a USB stick? Or is there another ingenious method round this - other than increasing the storage by a factor of 7?

Thanks for the feedback so far.

The best photo quality is the most important (only) target, so please look for 8MP, sensor dimention and lens quality. Tank you.

@DVC We’re working hard to get things ready to present to everyone! /Sarah

@Dr. Cheng @Justin This is from a previous post by Martin:

“We have looked very thoroughly into the viewing-angle and the one we have chosen is the best trade-off we have found. Increasing the viewing angle means making the device a lot more bulky. In the case you are at a dinner table for example, you can benefit somewhat of having a greater viewing angle. But if the device is too bulky to wear comfortably to dinner, the benefit is nil because you won't wear it anyway.
I am not saying that our trade-off is best in all situations, but rather that a wide-angle lens is also a trade-off that have other drawbacks.

Having a narrower viewing angle allows for a higher degree of serendipity in looking at the resulting photos. Meaning, more photos will be off in the composition but when the composition is spot on there will be less meaningless content in that photo. Another way of saying the same thing: With a narrower viewing angle there will be some photos capturing only the cloth on the table or the corner of the ceiling. But with a wider angle, the table cloth and the corner of the ceiling is present in *all* of the photos, and the meaningful content is given much less attention. There will rarely be a photo you want to share with your friends, because all photos look slightly like they are from a surveillance camera capturing the entire room.”

    15. Memoto Creator on October 30, 2012

@Skeam @XP Thanks! This is from an earlier response from Martin: “There is something happening when people look at a lot of photos in a sequence as well. They no longer think so much about composition and photo quality, but rather try to understand the order of events. And if it is your own photos, it is the memories that the photos trigger that are of real value.” We’re not trying to compete with a point and shoot camera, which is why we are able to make the Memoto camera so small and wearable. /Sarah

@Philippe In order to comply with the new Kickstarter guidelines, we are unable to offer packages of multiple units. This will be an option in our store in the future. /Sarah

    17. Memoto Creator on October 30, 2012

@Arthur Thanks! The memory capacity is something we’ve definitely considered, but keeping the camera’s small size means we have to be selective about what goes in it. /Sarah

    18. Memoto Creator on October 30, 2012

@Justin Thanks for your ideas! Sounds like the camera is going to be quite popular with pets☺ We’re still working on the stretch goal. Hope to have it out asap! /Sarah

Great! Local storage and tap to catch, it give more control to user, and more user will like it.

It nothing technical, but I would love the chance to buy nice matching necklace with it.

Re: Dr Cheng Link: I agree that the stretch goal should try to improve on the field of view. I think beyond that though (i.e. improving MP/IQ/pet collars) the team should really focus on providing as smooth an experience as apossible with the software/online facilities. I think that now the option to retain photos locally exists there team should aim as far as possible, to port the software for desktop (let's say PC use - they are more common - and just to be divisive) that automatically sorts the images into timeliens etc. In this way there would no longer be a distinctino in terms of facilities available to the user that depend on whether he/she has decided to utilise cloud storage or not. Personally I think this should be a key goal - providing uniform access to the fantastic work the Memoto team are doing, irrespective of storage media choice!

Agree to concentrate on IQ than on MP.
Good low light performance will be great.

      Next reward ?
-===> Bigger angle of View 70 degrees is kinda narrow.

just try to place your iphone on your chest and take a picture - you'll get the idea.

Congratulations, however I would rather get a better image quality by increasing the megapixels than having a timeline feature. After all what's the point of additional features if the picture quality isn't as good as it could be.

Please consider adding extra pledge levels enabling one to get two, three, four or five Memoto's. At your attractive pricepoint (especially compared to the Autographer), I should think there would be many people here who would be interesting to get one as a back-up as well as several more to give as presents to loved ones etc. Your price point opens the door for many use cases and casual forms of use... but you need to provide an easy and attractive way to pledge more so as to receive more units.

    27. Arthur Guy on October 29, 2012

Congratulations on the success of the project, really looking forward to receiving mine.
I would love to see increased storage so that I could use this device when on holiday, it can be charged by a phone charger but I would need to take a laptop to offload the photos.

How about a special cat/dog collar for a 400,000 stretch goal..?
