Blaming himself for a tragedy Kurt Lawson moves from depression through a healing process with the help of a very special dog – and his words of wisdom!
Three years ago, Kurt Lawson worked on the ski patrol team, saving skiers' lives from dangerous terrain in the mountains of Colorado. Three years ago, Kurt was successful, and he was dating the woman of his dreams, Jenna Herbert. Three years ago, Kurt found himself in a drunk bar fight late one night, and watched as Jenna's brother died in a fire that Kurt inadvertently started. And three years ago, Kurt Lawson went into a depression, and couldn't bring himself to see Jenna again. And he hid, avoiding her all this time. But now she's back in his life.
Driving home late one night, thoughts of Jenna now on his mind, Kurt stumbles upon a Siberian husky on the side of the road, and rescues it from two coyote attackers. Kurt brings the dog home and feeds it, telling it how lucky it is to still be alive. Kurt asks the dog it's name, searching for a collar, when he hears, "My name is Dakota." And that's how it all starts.
This character-driven drama follows Kurt's healing relationship with his talking dog as Dakota tries to convince Kurt to tell Jenna the truth about what happened to her brother. Dakota wants Kurt to realize that he isn't actually responsible for Jenna's brother's death, and that it was all just an accident. Will Kurt ever truly be healed? Will Jenna ever find out the truth? Is Dakota really talking? Or is it all just in Kurt's mind?
We have created 2 budgets for “Dakota.” Our minimum amount is $50,000, which will enable us to produce our film in a sound, professional manner.
The second, which exceeds $300,000, is designed to take the film to the next level in production quality and to facilitate its distribution. We will approach advertisers, potential investors and, of course, continue to accept your support in donations.
But we need the base $50,000 first to enable us to bring our script to life. So please, remember that every dollar we raise will make Dakota a better movie, and those dollars over our target goal can help Dakota become an even more outstanding theater experience. Thank you!
Why should you support Dakota?
Dakota is a viable product for the mass audience. The story is a heartwarming tale of a broken man healed through the relationship with his dog, and anyone who has ever had an pet will instantly feel a connection to the film. Who hasn't spoken to their dog or cat before? And who hasn't wished that their animal could understand them and talk to them? I am sure everyone at one point has wished that it were possible, and that is why this film will touch so many.
The characters are likable, save the antagonist, and relatable, which are important parts of having a successful film. I, along with the entire cast and crew, will make sure that this film finds its way to its audience. We are all behind it, and hope that you will join us in making this film a reality because the story needs to be told.
