To say thank you for getting us to our funding goal with plenty of time to spare, we will be sending an exclusive Boom! sticker to everyone who pledges £10 or more.
Thank you for your incredible, generous support to get this project fully funded on Kickstarter with 12 days left on the clock. Your support means we can finish Boom! to a very high standard, and give it exposure to audiences across the UK. Thank you so much.
Additional support from new and existing backers is very welcome ahead of the funding deadline on 11th July 2014. With additional financing, we can commission original music for the movie soundtrack, which would give the movie a really professional finish.
The Baby Boomers are coming. This post-war generation own more than half of Britain's wealth and, over the next 20 years as they move into retirement, they will be spending it.
Baby Boomers are the "fortunate generation" making up 15% of the population but controlling 80% of the UK's wealth and accounting for 40% of public spending.
I've spent over a decade working as a Financial Planner and personal finance author watching this demographic train coming down the tracks. As the leading edge Boomers reach retirement age, the impact on society is already proving to be seismic.
Boom! is a feature-length documentary featuring interviews with leading experts, innovative events designed to be thought-provoking and real-life case studies illustrating how, for the Baby Boomers, reaching retirement will be the most significant event of their generation.
With your help, I can finish this documentary to a high standard and give it the exposure it deserves. Your contribution to the project will fund professional narration, the soundtrack, rights to use copyrighted materials and entry to film festivals.
Most importantly, I want your support in spreading the word about this movie and its message - the Baby Boomers are coming and we all need to consider what this means for our families and society as a whole.
This is your opportunity to back an innovative documentary movie which seeks to answer important questions about one of the most influential generations of our time as they enter a new phase in their lives.
Boom! features leading experts from various fields, interviewed on camera talking about the challenges faced by the Baby Boomer generation as they reach retirement age.
I've been fortunate enough to gain access to experts from the fields of Financial Planning, divorce, health and death.
With your support I can bring the views of these individuals to the big screen, as well as many little screens.
Every documentary needs an excellent narrator, and for this project I have secured the services of freelance personal finance journalist Paul Lewis who presents Money Box on BBC Radio 4.
Paul has been a freelance financial journalist since 1987. He writes extensively on money and is a regular guest on BBC Breakfast, News Channel, and other radio 4 programmes.
With your kind support, I can pay for Paul's services to narrate the script for Boom! and bring this project real gravitas.
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
After an exclusive preview to an audience of Financial Planners at the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) annual conference in October, Boom! will premiere during Financial Planning Week in the week commencing 23rd November 2014.
A premiere has been already been booked at a local village arts centre in Surrey for 27th November. If this Kickstarter campaign attracts enough support, exceeding the initial goal, it will help fund additional premiere screenings of the movie in London and Edinburgh during Financial Planning Week 2014.
Following these premiere screenings, Boom! will receive a widespread public release online (using Vimeo On Demand) and on DVD.
Finishing this project and making it a success is only possible with your generous support. Thank you for reading this far and for supporting this Kickstarter campaign. With your help, I look forward to presenting Boom! to audiences this autumn.
Risks and challenges
Filming for the movie is nearly finished, with twelve of the interviews filmed and a first draft of the script being written. Completing the project will be a case of filming the final segments of background footage, editing the interviews, recording the narration and adding the soundtrack, titles and graphics. As a first-time movie maker, there are undoubtably risks backing me to complete this project, but with an initial screening already secured for October, I'm working to a definitive deadline and committed to making a success of the documentary.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
