I like that Tour:Smart has made a difference - but I’ve been asked a LOT over the last few years on the road - why not create another book that starts at the very beginning of an artists journey?There’s loads (and loads) of advice already out there – websites, forums, and videos for everything. You can spend hours on a site dedicated to recording drums …on a Tuesday afternoon, a Vimeo series on vocal tips for diabetics living in Memphis, weekly podcasts on how to succeed in business in a blue sweater for vegetarians. The list goes on. So, again, why even bother writing this book ? WHY?
Well, the only reason would seem to be the way I assimilate information, sift through it for you, insert myself and a few fucks and drawings along the way….and poop it back out along with tremendous advice from hundreds of industry professionals?
I’ve decided that if more fucks-per-page than any other book out there gets someone to read, retain this information and use it to create their own success (or at least avoid some problems) then who the fuck is anyone to say I shouldn’t put a few more (and more) fucks in my book? I’m happy to use any means necessary to communicate – from fucks to free.
Over the last few years I’ve been working on making Band:Smart as good as I can get it ( in its 71st revision) it addresses all aspects of being an artist, from starting out all the way through creating the entity (whatever it is); through the first shows, the writing, the recording, the packaging, the merchandising, the problems, the labels – why / why not, the people, the ups, the downs, and the ins and the outs (that wasn’t a sex reference until I made this comment) kind of like a d.i.y. bible, a d-i-why-ble?
The establishment, the labels, academia, the old school, the old guard, the what-evers……fuck ‘em – and there’s the most important fuck of all.
Whatever it takes……..whatever it takes
So to do this, and to do it my way, the way it needs to be done, I need your help. For Band:Smart to succeed on its own terms I need to do it without a publisher telling me what I can and cannot do with my own book. That’s where you come in…
How I will use the pledged money?
We need to raise $18,000 to finish, edit, illustrate and print the first edition of the book. I'm also in the process of buying the rights back from my previous publisher. That way I can continue to do all of this myself, give away free books when I want to, and keep developing a new hybrid model for book publishing. The learning curve has been much shorter than my music business experience! I want to make sure I can do what I want with these entities and not have to try and convince anyone of strategies that I know work!

His thoughtful real world advice is worth the price of admission alone! Wendy Day sorted out Eminem’s & the Cash Money deal! Are you fucking kidding me?
Sprinkled though the above list are pioneers in communicating what social media, or word of mouth, or the future of any of this really is, whilst doing their own things relentlessly, do-ers, shakers, disruptors, connectors, influencers and just glorious motherfuckers! Just look near the bottom of the pledge level you are interested in to see what the total is with postage included. There are is a price bracket for pledgers in Canada and Mexico and another price bracket for all other countries outside the US. Simply click through the level you are interested in. There you can modify your pledge to reflect the total price for that pledge with shipping added. Then select your pledge package below. US pledgers do not need to add shipping. It's included.
I am getting married in august. Is there a way to make sure that Martin will be able to be the worst dj at my wedding? How does the scheduling work?
Yes, but the travel might be more expensive if it isn't part of an already planned trip. As long as you don’t mind that, and Martin’s terrible terrible dj-ing, then you are set!

I am interested in a 1/4 of martins Nissan cube. How does that work? Do we get to choose a quadrant of the vehicle (front right??) or what?
No. The ideas is that everyone’s logos, messages, or art will be distributed and repeated around a FULL car wrap. Each pledger will receive 25% of the total area but not a solid 25% section. Think logo wallpaper!
How can I change my pledge amount? In other words.... I bought a "Fuck". After further introspection I realized that size does matter and I NEEEEED a HUGE 72 point "FUCK”. How do I do this?
It's easy! Just visit the project page and click the “Manage Your Pledge” box to the left of the campaign video. There you can enter a new amount in the pledge dollar amount box and alter your pledge "Thank You" package. Please note that you are not adding to your existing pledge; the amount you enter will be the total amount collected if the project is successfully funded.
