*** We have 5 hours to go and every pledge past our goal will still be a big help! Here is a sneak peek at our sticker set and t-shirt prototypes, the limited edition art poster, a prototype for our delicious hot sauce and also our album cover design. A big thanks to everyone who has contributed so far!***
As you may well know, a whole lot of goodness has been going on in my world. Since our last Kickstarter Campaign for "The Goodbye Party" in 2011 I have released 4 albums and finished the first season of The Martha Bassett Show at the Reeves Theater in Elkin, NC.
My last album, "Dark Of The Night," was an absolute joy to make and I was surrounded by an amazing team, including a dedicated producer (Pat Lawrence), stellar recording/mixing engineer (Jason Richmond), and my wonderful bandmates (Sarah Howell-Miller, Fiona Burdette, Alex McKinney, Russell Kelly, and Pat Lawrence). We have put our powers together again to bring you our new record, "Hot Pepper Queen!"
I am delighted to have two of Sarah's songs on the record: "Ain't I A Woman," and the title cut, "Hot Pepper Queen." The latter was inspired by a hot wing eating contest that we witnessed after a show we played in Ohio a couple of years ago.
We recorded the initial album tracks at the Fidelitorium and are now beginning to move toward editing, mixing, mastering, and duplication with a grand release planned for the month of May. On average it costs me 12K to make a record these days. All of the money from this campaign will help to cover those costs and the initial session expenses.
It is a true honor to make music for you and I appreciate the countless ways you've supported me.
Along with the digital download we have the autographed CD reward which also comes with a limited edition "Hot Pepper Queen" mini sticker set (super cute!). We will unveil the reward designs for you to see on social media.
The aforementioned hot wing eating contest in Ohio was hosted by our friend Sam Peters. He and his wife Joyce own and operate a hot sauce company called Patter Fam Sauces. Sam will be creating and bottling a special hot sauce for us to share as a tasty little keepsake. We will design our own fun label and name it (what else?) "Hot Pepper Queen."
We are professionally designing a special high quality screen printed "Hot Pepper Queen" t-shirt, and also an 18"x24" beautifully framed limited edition art poster to commemorate the album.
To cap off our campaign I have added a variety of ways that you can see me perform live at your home or special event in 2019. There is even an option to get a recording of a song you have always wanted to hear me sing!
Thank you for your continued support! - Peace, mb
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge with any artistic project is the timeline. We are one step ahead in that the album is recorded and only post production remains. I will do my very best to release the record and ship all of the physical rewards by the end of May if not sooner. I will schedule all of the performance rewards myself and find a time that fits our schedules. Those options can be discussed immediately and if you have interest in specific performance dates feel free to reach out before pledging.
I will keep you posted on my progress and look forward to seeing you out at a show! Thanks again for your support of "Hot Pepper Queen."Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
