The Elsewhere Projects are a new upcoming setting as a new publisher and we're here to stay, provided we can get on our feet! We intend to produce a long line of high quality, very large books chock full of content, artwork, and stories to share and are inviting you to come join us in this community! We currently plan for monthly productions showcasing Elsewhere Radio, a radio station from the metaphysical center of the multiverse. Our podcast plans to be once a month, but may change based on Kickstarter tiers reached. We will also create a community website that will be released soon, acting as both a creative outlook for periodic stories and as a development blog for the material produced. With your patronage, we plan to remain and produce quality content for quite some time. What is Elsewhere?
Welcome to Elsewhere, center of the multiverse and throne-space of the most powerful beings the multiverse has ever known. Within this realm, the personified Ideals of the universe reside, resting upon the shoulders of their chosen vessels-- previously mortals, who have long since abandoned reality and its fetters to take up these Ideal callings. Under their guidance, universes change, the hearts of trillions of worlds shift, and all of the multiverse responds to their crooning; it is here, in the realm of Elsewhere, that these titanic forces can coexist, both monitoring and guiding all of Everywhere along their goals and purposes.
Elsewhere, an apt name for both the sector of space and the area in which it is located, is an incredibly vast and condensed realm with extremely contrasting landscapes. Eleven ringworlds of unfathomable sizes constantly orbit the center of everything; a vibrant, color emitting singularity only known as Continuity. This singularity paradoxically binds much of this universe together, and keeps Elsewhere both separate from the rest of the planes and utterly inclusive to them. Throughout the endless march of time, numerous societies and individuals which have supremely abandoned their purpose, or lost their way, will invariably find themselves drawn toward Elsewhere-- whether it be purposefully walking through a door where there used to be none, or taking an alley where they couldn’t quite remember there being one. Those that wander aimlessly without an end eventually find themselves here to find Chaos living alongside Order.
These creatures, alone, lost, and confused, were warmed by the light of Continuity and eventually formed villages, cities, and nations. Ever increasing in size, Elsewhere is endlessly welcoming of newcomers who bring with them their ways of life and colored histories. Though infighting and war tend to keep entropy at bay, Elsewhere has always been the battleground for the true forces of the universe, the Ideals.
No one remembers why the Ideals became or when; they just always were. Every so often, a mortal finds an artifact and is chosen by such an Ideal as a mouthpiece, to be molded and shaped into a union where the vessel both speaks and acts according to their combined will. These Ideals are endlessly fueled by the universal desires and hopes of all inhabitants of the multiverse, granting unfathomable power. It is rumored that the Ideal of Self is the only one of the Ideals who knows why it all happens-- but She remains silent, endlessly building Her virtual paradise for the Anima and their robotic kin in the Empty Cities of Her unending home.
Currently, there are three primary Ideals which command the attention of Elsewhere-- Power, with His bottomless hunger to fill the universe with the victims of mortality so that there will always be those that form and create; Peace, with Her dust and ash-filled prerogative to cause the eventual heat-death of the universe so that all life might perfectly know Her solace; and Dominance, who exists to bring an endless spiral of both motion and emotion so that entropy might be eternally dead. There are many other Ideals in the multiverse, but none as powerful as these three. Their endless struggles are titanic in scope, yet each have fear that should fighting break out among them directly, Continuity would intervene. Thus do they resort to using mortals as pawns in their grand machinations as each are locked within this small battleground, trapped and encircled by the Graveyard of Planes, the final resting place of abandoned worlds awaiting new life from Continuity.
Interloper: The Hunters. Known otherwise as artificers, doctors, inventors, engineers, Einsteins, and Teslas of their day and age, these brave men and women constantly dabble at the bleeding edge of science, flaunting inventions as mysterious as the magic they lack. Aided by their spite of ignorance and hunger for knowledge, Interlopers use their intelligence as a weapon, perceiving the universe as an opponent seeking to hide its secrets from its own; for when you wield forces like time, what does the universe have left to defend itself from your wishes?
Mortificer: The Ambitious. Wizards that have eschewed the moral constraints of the value of life in favor of those secrets to be learned from the dead. Animators, task masters, and heretics all; these spellcasters prefer to use the force of their will to give the husks of those who couldn’t cope with the rigors of life a second chance under their thrall. While danger always exists in giving life to that which does not live, the profane commands the Mortificer gives to their creations are held inviolate as they mix divine and arcane magics.
Ascendant: The Will. Through personal sacrifice and devotion, Ascendants are chosen by their Ideal or their god to act as servants or agents for both them and their cause. Granted powerful gifts from their patrons, they go forth and carry out their silent commands and use their influence to spread their will. Ascendants come in every shape and way and will gather those that follow as agents, representatives, and soldiers, willing to give and devote everything to their cause-- everything, because they no longer have anything left untouched by their patron.
Kindred: The Fractured. For many, the journey to Elsewhere is harsh and cruel, lonely. The slow steady steps towards the center can break a soul, and occasionally a Kindred manifests as a soul breaks in half. Such a soul must learn to work with themselves, as the dangers (or perhaps benefits) of being separated forever are both unknown and very real. The journey is long and hard, but two halves can heal into two new wholes-- in time.
Confidant: The Corruptors. Words are a form of expression of the soul, another means that the soul can leak from one and into another. By wielding this subtle power, a Confidant is able to intrinsically alter another to their own wishes, be it brute labor in the mines or a puppet to be the king. Be wary the words of your advisor, for he rarely only speaks on just your behalf, and there is always, always a price for their power.
Reverent: The Commanding. The angels and demons of the planes personify the desires and dreams of those that reside in them, but Dominance endlessly whispers out its incessant commands; fight, live, conquer, love! These chosen emissaries primarily serve Him, abandoning their lonely posts and warlord huts, the temples of their planes, and serve Him as alpha above the others, leader of the their pack (or pact). For those that carry His brand, the Reverent are granted a peculiar boon among their kin-- free will.
Reality Sculptor: The Lost. It is easier for those psychically inclined to turn their third eye towards the universe and breath deep the flavors of its mind. It is in many ways far harder to turn that third eye towards yourself, to see all that you could have been. Fractured from extended contact with their potential selves, they discover the edges of the mirror they are peering through and peek behind, to discover another slightly different face. Now broken, the Reality Sculptor must work together with their potential selves until the end, lest they unravel entirely.
Netherseer: The Mystic. Hailing from an ancient art from a dusty plane far away, the Netherseers’ organization find their destiny written in the inky rotting oil they use to scry the past. Curses, rituals, intrigue; this order of dancers seek to blend chi and mind together to overwhelm their enemies and bring to pass the destiny of their kind-- nothing less than omniscience, of course.
The Anima: The Created. Animated and non organic, the Anima represent that which was given life unto itself; the android, the drone, the artificial intelligence, the intelligent enchantment. The Anima will forever try to discover themselves in their home planes of existence, but will find themselves a welcoming home in Elsewhere should they die outside, for Continuity takes particular care of His and His own.
Apex: The Predators. Hailing from gaunt stars, the Apex overthrew their ancient masters and supplanted them. Hungry for the experience of life denied to them, this machine race grew parasitic, and started taking hosts for themselves. Proud of their new acquisitions, the Apex are pursuers of perfection, scornfully casting off the weak and consuming life’s every known flavor.
Eidolon: The Gathered. Elementals forced together through brute and selfish forces; once their reason for existence is spent, they are left until they break apart as mindless raging energy and a swirl of will. Occasionally a spark is ignited, and these find reason to exist beyond their purpose given from those cruel and ignorant former masters. Like the Anima, Eidolon find themselves in Elsewhere post-destruction from their home planes of existence.
Vatborn: The Hungry. The Vatborn are a race born of Power’s desire for experience. Born of lesser Ideals, these creatures of excessive flesh and mismatched bone endlessly thirst after experience, desiring satisfaction for their wanderlust. The Vatborn share Power’s joviality, a family of creatures born of the need to keep the universe aflame; warm, safe, protected. Given free will, these creatures seek to find meaning in life and find it with the others they now share this new universe with.
Naga: The Subtle. Brought to Elsewhere by the current vessel of Dominance, the Naga radiate the opulence and splendor that none but He could convey. Charismatic, intelligent, manipulative; the Naga are a true force to be reckoned with as Dominance has chosen their savanna home to be His footstool. Though many leave to try and carve out their own way, they inevitably serve His purposes by being gifted with what skills He’s given them to do just that.
Merrow: The Seekers. Deep as the ocean realms they come from, the Merrow are a pragmatic race of thinkers, dreamers. While hailing from humble origins, these seafaring merfolk band together to fight against those that would conquer them, huddling together in schools like days of old. While many find the Merrow to be a stuffy race of bureaucratic technocrats and merchants, they never forget their idealistic origins and their aspirations for greatness.
Mutts: The Family. Both a blend of tradition and genetic wanderlust, the average baker, trader, painter or cantrip tracer that finds themselves in Elsewhere will find these pilgrims of the stars travelling wide and far to seek out whatever their soul drives them to find in life. They tend to gather as a roving band of wanderers who huddle in the dark to fight the cold of a chaotic universe and work to survive its dangers with their gift of adaptability. Having long since hit genetic mutability in every regard, Mutts are a blending of, literally, a little bit of everywhere.
Valasse: The Eternal. The Valasse are a dualistic society held together by their traditions, being the oldest race in Elsewhere. Dinosaur-like in appearance and as large as they are old, their temples stretch to the sky as their impressive architecture reminds all that if it isn’t built to last, it will be ruined by the sands of time. The Valasse are guided by both Cunning and Predation in a hollow ringworld filled with sand and prey. There is comfort knowing that should you ever gain one as a friend, their loyal friendship will live far longer than you will.
Chiroptra: The Charismatic. With adorable features to strike awe into the hearts of many who find them, Chiroptra are the most charming creatures in Elsewhere. Their curiosity knows no bounds, which is as dangerous a mix with their harmless demeanor when their interests take darker turns. Guided by the unending desire to know and gather, these bat-like folk endure and thrive in this home of Chaos-- despite all odds, and by any means necessary.
Our tiers are listed below! With your assistance we can make Elsewhere a reality unlike any other setting you’ve visited before!
$16,000: Initial tier! This makes the campaign setting a reality and ensures that there’s just enough for continual development as a company. The initial campaign book is slated to be a whooping 440+ pages filled to the brim with content, involving a full stack of 8 classes, 8 races, numerous worlds, items, factions, characters, and archetypes, all with incredible artwork and more!
$18,000: At this tier, we will create two archetype books of roughly 30-40 pages each focusing on translating 3 classes each for conversion in the Elsewhere universe. They will also contain items and other class materials that would be useful for integrating classes back and forth for cyberpunk environments in general.
$20,000: At this tier, we launch a series of support books for each of the races in Elsewhere. Elsewhere is a melting pot of the universe, and the races available are nearly without number. The races present in these books will showcase some of the more unique and unusual varieties of life you might encounter in the center of the multiverse, the order of which to be decided by our backers!
$22,000: At this tier, we will launch a similar series of support books for each of the classes in Elsewhere. Each of the classes are designed to fill in missing themes and rectify old design problems their corresponding equivalent classes had, all while taking them for a new and exotic spin! Each of these classes will be playtested extensively before they’re released to make sure they’re balanced, well thought out, and to be sure they stand the test of time. These classes are intended to mesh very well for settings in almost any environment-- planar, futuristic, classical, or otherwise!
$24,000: After immense discussion, we’ve decided that at this tier we’re willing to turn our developer blog into a Podcast, featuring in-universe characters, community events, development discussion, and details pertaining to upcoming content! This tier will go towards purchasing the proper equipment and software such an enterprise would need. This Podcast would be scheduled monthly and be available from our website. This tier would unlock player given Ads, persistent characters from the community, and all features involving the Podcast.
$26,000: At this tier, we will create a 4-part Adventure Path in Elsewhere. The Adventure Path would contain a higher amount of artwork than normal and would roughly consist of about 100 pages per part-- a total of another 400 pages of content! With the talent of our excellent artist Bryan Syme bringing our locations and characters to life, we hope to bring the best of Elsewhere out in this Adventure Path.
$28,000: At this tier, we will complete the cycle of archetype translation books for the remaining 6 base classes of 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. These books will contain details on translating these class types into the cyberpunk setting that is Elsewhere. We will additionally make a player guide as an assistant document for DMs to pass out to players explaining a players perspective of Elsewhere and other useful information for a cleaner experience.
$30,000: At this tier, we will create a series of very cheap Faction and Lore segment books available for roughly a dollar at about 10 pages. These books will contain details regarding some of the groups and lives of those that live in the numerous ringworlds, as well as ideas for DMs to integrate into their own campaigns.
$34,000: At this tier, the art budget for the primary setting book will be increased substantially, and numerous art pieces be made available for use in your own campaigns. Additionally, we will add in a Bestiary section of the book-- roughly 35 pages worth of additional content!
$38,000: We increase the size of each Class/Race book by 50 pages each, which will bring the amount of content for each of these Classes to rival official content for the normal classes of Dungeons and Dragons has produced so far for 5th edition. Let it never be said we do anything halfway!
$42,000: At this tier, a dedicated Bestiary Book will be produced in addition to the Bestiary section of the primary setting document, clocking in at about 100+ pages of content and beautiful artwork, featuring some of the horrid creations left wandering in the center of Elsewhere. Bestiaries are a great deal of work, and we will collaborate closely with our artist as we explore the dangers and the origins of such fantastical things like the ‘Colour-Out-Of-Space’.
$46,000: At this tier, the Podcast will be upgraded to a full studio production. We will take vocal training classes, as well as improve the content of the Podcast to include a longstanding Radio Drama featuring the main cast as opposed to a developer blog alone. Podcasts will be posted on iTunes, Soundcloud, and Spotify.
$48,000: We will increase the art budget substantially for the first 5 Class/Race books produced!
$53,000: We will increase the art budget substantially for the second set of 5 Class/Race books produced!
$58,000: We will increase the art budget substantially for the third set of 5 Class.Race books produced!
$63,000: We will increase the art budget substantially for the remainder of the Class/Race books, as well as increase the art budget for the Adventure Path books produced!
$67,000: Given the resent change of the project's original scope from Pathfinder to 5E, at this tier we will translate core books from 5E to Pathfinder. If we progress beyond this point, we will add additional tiers to aide with the conversion as proper, long lasting development of these rulesets are a core focus of the project!
Risks and challenges
We are a small team of four with a substantial amount of experience in numerous game systems, game design, and Dungeons and Dragons experience, both on and off the Pathfinder and 5th Edition rulesets. We live ‘ordinary’ (heh, as far as anyone knows) lives and the only challenge we anticipate is if one of us are out of commission for a time due to health concerns-- even then, recovery is expected in a reasonably timely manner and the project continued at a set pace. The Kickstarter tiers are placed so to permit the maximum likelihood of clean, high quality completion.
