I expect comparisons to be made. And I'm certainly indebted to the authors who've come before me. Nevertheless, this book will be different in a number of ways.
If I had to name a talking-animals type book that the Hackberry saga most resembles, it would be Watership Down. When parents read the book for the first time, they were likely expecting a cute story about rabbits. However, Richard Adams told a story of apocalypse and struggle within a stark and frightening world.
It is my hope that my book will capture some of that same spirit, but in a much larger, complicated world.
