About this project
Philip Heseltine (1894-1930) was an undoubted genius of English classical music at the start of the twentieth century, who wrote songs under the name Peter Warlock. We are proposing to record his complete songs on three single discs - this project is for the first disc. The artistic team will be Mark Stone (baritone) and Sholto Kynoch (piano). The disc will include full texts and extensive notes on each song, similar to those that we have produced for our critically-acclaimed complete song editions of Butterworth, Delius, C.W. Orr and Havergal Brian. The project has the full support of the Peter Warlock Society, who are providing invaluable assistance and expertise. His total output was just over 120 songs, and this first disc will include around 40 - grouped together by poet and theme.
Risks and challenges
There are very few risks involved in the completion of this project. The sheet music has been prepared, the artistic team is ready, and the recording venue selected. As soon as we have sufficient funds pledged we can go into the studio and record. From this point it should be a matter of around six months before we will be ready to release the finished disc.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
