We are 15 Buckman Elementary students in Portland, Oregon grades 3-5 taking a free after school class called Shoe Design. The class focused on creativity, collaboration, and real life problem solving. In four weeks we learned about the footwear design process and product innovation leading us to two final designs.
Our innovative arts integrated curriculum at Buckman Elementary School nurtures the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and artistic development of each student. Buckman students achieve academic excellence as they develop a lifelong love of learning.
Here we are working thru a complete design process and learning how to be real designers. Our rain boots are designed by kids, for kids. The 15 of us named the rain boots in one 30 minute naming frenzy and created the "Buckman13 Neon" & "Buckman13 Beard" ... we're not exactly sure why, but it works. Hey, it's Portland, Oregon...neon and beards are both HUGE here. Our teacher is a famous footwear designer and has the design skills and manufacturing connections to make sure our cool boots get made. Together we worked to collaborate, combine and connect the best various elements using all of our designs and created two amazing rain boots.
Here is a picture of our final two designs. Each style of rain boots is available in both kid, youth and adult sizes. Also, you will get a FREE Buckman13 cinch bag (this is like a nylon backpack) with every rain boot you order.
What will the funding be used for? Manufacturing costs, shipping from China, and distribution inside the US.
We offer kids, youth and adult full size runs, does not include half sizes. Fits similar to Bogs, easiest to just simply order the size boots you usually wear.
Once we meet our project goal, you can then choose your boot style and size via email we will send you. Our rain boots are only available during this Kickstarter project, so this is a one time only chance to get our unique and cool boots. The rain boot factory is in Huaian, China, which is a 45 minute flight from from Shanghai. This modern factory is used by respected footwear makers worldwide and is audited often by NGO workers rights organizations. The rain boots are manufactured out of high grade Neoprene and rubber. This entire video was shot on an iPhone 4s and edited in Adobe Premiere on a tower PC.

Risks and challenges
Arild Dietrichson the lead design instructor has worked directly with this factory on behalf of some large global design brands. We're pretty comfortable in the relationship and ability to make the students cool rain boots. Any large order of rain boots could result in more time with logistics and related shipping time issues. We've tried our best to "under promise" on delivery times.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
