Were the cover song stretch goals ever released?
Kinda surprised there isn't an update for this, but Bandcamp just let me know Marian's new album is available for preorder: http://mariancall.bandcamp.com/album/sketchbook
Marian, any progress on the cover songs recording from the stretch goals?
2 down... tons to go!
Hope you have an amazing trip!!!!
For historical purposes, let's make sure this one is linked here:
Marian's blog on the day of departure to Europe. You go girl!
Marian, I cannot even tell you how glad I am to have "discovered" your music. My wife and I LOVE it! I've never heard a more relatable song than "Nerd Anthem." Thank you!
If you want to distribute my coins somewhere it may make a difference, feel free to do so!
No new countries to report, or I would have made a lot of noise. Will design a survey on film locations when more research is done -- might need to get you all good links so you can see/imagine the spaces.
Surveys yay! Please fill out your surveys swiftly, I don't have time to chase you guys down. :)
Got my survey! That was quick. How's the country/coin count coming?
For Good Morning Moon, besides the well known sites like Stonehenge and Avebury, there are the stone circles at Machrie Moor on the Isle of Arran. Much more primitive and small, but nice. Although Equinox may work better for any of the stone circle locations.
How about Glastonbury Tor for Your Fault?
Cheers as to funding. Per my location, it's currently in Frederick (MD) and Silver Springs isn't that bad of a drive, true. However, given my job, I'm subject to move frequently and without much notice, so I've learned not to try to plan much far ahead.
Congratulations! Looking forward to the new and old music.
Ok, video ideas - I love the Darcy/Austen idea and Good morning moon at one of the 'henges, if you need the official suggestion. Some other ideas that are a little out there:
Got To Fly - at the White Tower in the Tower of London (regarding the ravens)
Good Old Girl - at Buckingham palace
Maybe "Love and Harmony" in Paris?
I like the "Oldest" coffee shop idea, too
FUNDED! FUNDED FUNDED FUNDED NEARLY SIX TIMES OVER!
This is amazing. It's getting old, but I think it's true what Amanda Palmer said: This is the future of music. Or perhaps This is one future of music. Thank you for being in my path!
LOL@ your new goal... done, NEXT!
Listing to Vanilla right now and what I see is a road movie/compilation of bits of footage from your trip and concerts... You'll sing for us so it kinda makes sense... right? Might be a ton of editing work and requires some planning but I guess you could collect enough footage along the way to compile.
Okay fine. New stretch goal: at $63,000 I will take a couple days' vacation at the end of the Europe tour.
Thinking about the video here..... I agree with Lee (from a few posts back) that you really also need to see this as a monetary way of us expressing our affection :-) We love you! We love your music! So next (retrospective) goal should be 'go on vacation' 'sleep in for a week' or 'buy yourself superduper luggage for the trip' or something :-)
If you retrospectively neeed a goal for $62,000 - what about "If I had a million dollars"? That would be a great line for the next Kickstarter, btw. :-)
What about the countries of the world from the Animaniacs?
Good song, and you can start checking the countries off as you visit them.
If you were going to make it to Sweden. I was going to suggest The Volvo Song there.
Other than that, "Whistle While You Wait" with shots of you waiting at various points along the tour could be fun, maybe changing the places in the verses?
Woot! 60K. Way to go everyone!
I still want a music video for "Good Old Girl" (unless I can figure out a perfect venue for "In the Black"), so how about at the newly-restored Cutty Sark? http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/24/world/europe/cutty-sark-reopen/index.html a wee bit obscure, but...
From the looks of it you're not actually going to be *in* Brussels, but you'll be passing nearby (depends on if you get the Eurostar from London or fly, I guess) - But The Atomium (www.atomium.be) would probably be a cool backdrop, along with the 'Mini Europe' thing.
@Chris, I think Maryland is on her schedule. Silver Springs rather than Frederick, but worth the drive!
Still soliciting ideas here in the comments: where should we shoot a music video in Europe? "Dear Mister Darcy" at a Jane Austen landmark? "Good Morning Moon" at a Stone Circle or planetarium? "Nerd Anthem" at Legoland?" What do you want? I'll be researching the legality of filming and proposing a few awesome places for you to vote on in the next couple of days -- you'll decide what song and where!
Happy to help... but also looking forward to getting a crapload of amazing music from Marian!
Yeah, apparently we have a whole album of covers now? I should have known that Animaniacs and Muppets would motivate you guys. Because you rock.
@Chris - where in the U.S. do you live? I'll cover a good portion of the eastern U.S. before the Europe tour, and a good percentage of the Western half next spring.
Chris - as a non-European you'll have the opportunity to use your coins to vote on a song/location where she will make a video (in addition to Particle man @ Cern).
@Marian - Thank Techdirt for getting me here before the end. Pledged Merchant, but live in America and my schedule doesn't allow for travel in the near future (that being a year or so). That said, feel free to put the 5 coins to whichever city you want.
6 hours for lessees than $1000? Shouldn't be too hard.
You might as well just go ahead and release a covers album at this point. Congrats!
OK, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python at $59k, and then one of the most perfect of perfect songs, "All I Want" by Joni Mitchell at 60k.
Oh crap! I need a new stretch goal!
I have to say just this... You are absolute fun, Marian! Thanks for all of it!
Well said Lee. It'll probably be a tight squeeze to fit in recording all these covers with her busy touring schedule. I've updated my traveling salesman map while waiting on the quest map to update: http://www.google.com/maps…
Part of me would love some more cover songs or, well anything but a bigger part of me is saying, that's enough. You have given us an unbelievable amount of stuff and then added to it, you don't need to keep giving, use the money to help you, whether it be a new computer, recording equipment or a car, if it will help make your life easier with writing and making music and touring then it benefits us all.
That number to the right isn't just about funding a tour of Europe, it's our way to say thank you.
@lee darn, you're right! What DOES happen at 60K? I promise I won't make a suggestion ;-) (how about the KS backers vote for the cover or song you'll do? Oh no, sorry, I didn't say anything)
Woo, amazing! Well done Marian, so what happens at 60k?
@lisa your hands get used to it. Sadly, your keyboard doesn't ;-)
Oh and...... YEAH!!!!!! 55 K!!!!!
Particle man at CERN!!!! that's gonna be a video right???? :)
YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING! LOOK AT YOU GO! SCOTLAND IS IN!!!! Sorry about all the all caps, it's that kind of day!
@Marian & MarianNotCall - I'm new to Kickstarter - how do you not wear your hands out with all the wringing and the F5-ing? So exciting!
Threw my support in!
Too easy to get CERN at this point. Either a few more donors pop in between now and 4 AM... or every backer raises their contribution by 30 cents.
Make that 223... :-) Oh how I love a good countdown! F5-ers FTW!!!
just 12 hours left, and just $338 needed to get "Particle Man"... :)
=D We need to get to $54k PLEASE. Hurray for Animaniacs =D =D =D
@James, now that Switzerland is unlocked, Marian gets to visit CERN whether she sings Particle Man there or not. :D But still, it would be better if she did.
