"I created Lot 2001 to help artists, writers and performers who have an urgent housing need."
Lot 2001 is a short-term artist residence and retreat located in an industrial neighborhood in Northeast Los Angeles. Inspired by artist friends who can no longer afford to live in LA, Lot 2001 provides temporary accommodations for marginalized and under recognized artists, writers and performers who have an urgent housing need.
Created and curated by multidisciplinary artist Margie Schnibbe, Lot 2001 provides multiple levels of support for visual artists, writers and performers with limited financial means.

Lot 2001 includes lodging in a vintage 1973 Aristocrat Lo-Liner travel trailer on a four thousand square foot secured lot with shared kitchen and bath facilities in the main studio building. The adjacent outdoor space may be used to present large-scale artworks or experimental performance. There is gated parking for vehicles and bicycles; a twenty-four hour Metro bus line that connects to Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles is located just one block away.

Welcome Friend!
We launched Lot 2001 in the Fall of 2017 and in the past year, we've had artists, writers and performers in residence while they were in Los Angeles exhibiting artwork, curating exhibitions, developing new projects or just in-between more permanent accommodations.
Our Current Lot 2001 Resident
Current Lot 2001 resident Gregory Barnett is writing an experimental novel while working as a gymnastics and movement instructor at a local community center.

Winterize!
It’s winter in Los Angeles and that means cold and rainy weather. Lot 2001 needs your help to winterize the trailer in a most efficient and economical way. Please help us keep the accommodations cozy, warm and dry!
Your support will enable us to make basic improvements on the trailer:
- Purchase a canopy to cover the trailer to protect it from rain
- Repair a water-damaged wall and continue water-sealing the exterior
- Hire an assistant to help sew insulated window curtains
- Repair cracked windowpanes and replace malfunctioning window latches
- Hire an electrician to install a dedicated power outlet
- Purchase a single mattress and bed frame

"As an artist with a 25+ years of creating and exhibiting artwork I am deeply committed to my personal practice, as well as serving the greater good of my community. Thank you for your support of Lot 2001!"

Risks and challenges
Lot 2001 is happening now and we need your support to make it better. I have been creating, producing and directing commercial and personal projects for over twenty-five years as well as working with numerous non-profit arts organizations. As an artist one of my biggest personal challenges has been negotiating the balance between time and money. For every project I’ve produced, I’ve always wished for more time and more money. (Don’t we all?) However in the end, every project worked out perfectly. Perhaps some of the magic is in the limitations? For many years I have worked in production. I always get the job done.
