Why should great luggage cost a small fortune?
We never understood why great luggage had to be so expensive. And then we realized: it's over-built. We're paying for features we never use. We just wanted the best pieces from the best bags - wheels, zippers, handles, nylon - but a minimalist design and a reasonable price tag. So that's what we made.
Meet the Tintico Carry-On.
It started with taking out stuff we never used.
- Laptop compartment. If you’re like us, it goes in our smaller bag.
- Suit feature. We can fold a suit jacket just fine without the hangers, thank you very much.
- Expansion zipper. Instead of a bulky compartment to throw the bag off balance, compression panels help you pack more inside the bag.
Then we doubled down where it matters.
- YKK Zippers. Instead of average quality zippers, we used only the best
- 1050D Nylon. The perfect balance of light, durable, and easy on the eyes.
- Hinomoto Wheels. Silent, smooth, 360-degree wheels from the best supplier in the world, and custom-designed to be replaceable. So a broken wheel doesn’t mean the end of your bag.
Our favorite travelers told us they just wanted a couple of pockets on the outside. So that's what we designed.
Zipper Pocket: A pocket perfect for phone chargers, your passport, and other loose items like keys or change.
Slip Pocket: A pocket with no zipper where you can easily stash a boarding pass or magazines when you're on the run.
That’s it for the exterior. Simplified pockets mean you can always find what you're looking for. Plus, fewer zippers mean a cleaner design and fewer pieces that wear over time.
Dimensions: the Tintico Carry-On is 22" tall, 14" wide, and 9" deep. Approved size for all major US airlines.
Weight: 7.6 pounds.
Deep Internal Pocket: Behind the front face of the bag is a deep internal pocket, made to be jammed full of dirty clothes, so that they’re kept separate from the rest of your stuff. It can also fit a folded suit jacket.
Compression Panels: Unlike simple straps, our compression panels won't wrinkle your clothes. The panels are fitted to the bottom of the bag, and the lower center of gravity means they actually compress your clothes, not just hold them in place. So you fit more in your bag, without needing that expansion zipper that throws your bag off balance and makes it too big to carry on.
Three Additional Interior Zipper Pockets. We cleaned up the pockets on the outside, but inside, there's more than enough organization for any kind of traveler out there.
Over and over we heard the same thing. The airline broke a wheel on my bag.
So we worked hand-in-hand with the best wheel manufacturer in the world, Hinomoto, to custom-design an innovative new wheel that is replaceable on the spot. With the twist of a hex key, you're good to go. No need to get a new bag, no need to mail the bag off for repairs.
Kickstarter Backer Exclusive: For helping us get off the ground, we're offering Kickstarter backers free wheels replacements for life. Yep. Life.
When we say double-down where it matters, that's what we’re talking about. Wheels matter.
Our Prototype Wheels: The ones we tested and dropped, over and over and over.
Our Custom-Designed, Recessed Replaceable Wheels: Our innovative design will provide more packing space, greater durability, and the ability to prolong the life of your bag if the airline does its worst.
Click play to see how it works.
Hinomoto wheels are the most durable in the world.
But even they get abused by the airlines. We wanted a way to prolong the life of a Tintico bag, without mailing it off for repairs. So we developed the wheel replacement kit.
Kickstarter backers receive free wheel replacement kits for life, including shipping.
How do we know our wheels are strong? This is how.
And here's the trolley handle.
And the wheels again.
They're good to go. But you know, things happen.
We want you to know we stand behind our bag.
We like to keep things simple. Our warranty is no exception. Lots of luggage companies (one of them rhymes with umi) only cover damage caused by airlines for a couple years. After that, they only cover standard manufacturer defects. Not us.
We're so confident in the materials we've selected that if your bag breaks for any reason in the first five years, we’ll repair it or replace it at our expense. We share the cost of shipping - you ship it to us and we'll ship it back to you.
And if it's a wheel, well you know we've already got you covered there.
Cosmetic wear and tear that does not affect the performance of the bag is not included, but hey, nice try.
There’s no other warranty out there at this price point. Period.
There's lots of new luggage out there claiming to be "smart." But do you really want delicate electronics in something that gets dropped regularly? Do you need one more thing to charge? Another app? Do you want to know that your bag is a thousand miles away, when all that matters is the airline lost it? Look a little closer at the warranties the "smart" bags offer and it's pretty clear the manufacturers know they are a risky bet.
GPS or amazing wheels?
A bunch of average-quality zippers or a few great ones?
A battery pack and weight scale or $100 more dollars for your trip?
It’s a good thing we love travel, because finding the right luggage manufacturer took us around the world to coordinate with all our suppliers.
We wanted to build a relationship with a manufacturer we could trust, and we toured tons of suppliers in multiple countries until we found one that worked for us. We wanted a factory that:
- Already manufacturers top-quality luggage for other brands.
- Provides responsible working conditions for all their employees
- Wants to support us and help us grow, so we can make new bags. (Not as easy as you’d think.)
We view our manufacturer as our partners and friends. We’ve gone to karaoke and basketball games and talked way too much about what makes luggage over countless meals.
Getting to this point wasn't easy. But traveling to make a travel bag? Sign us up.

Marcus Segui, Founder
Marcus is a non-stop traveler with lots of experience in international business. He worked in finance before backpacking Latin America and launching a business in Bogota, Colombia.
Don Hogan, Industrial Designer
Don is an industrial designer who has worked on everything from aftermarket motorcycle parts to holographic window displays for Nike. He’s had a hand in designing some of the finest luggage out there, and holds multiple patents from his previous time at Briggs & Riley.
About that name...
Tintico ("tin-TEE-co") is a Colombian word that literally means "little cup of coffee." Not only do we just love coffee (!), for us it represents a moment of sitting down as we travel, of simple shared experiences along the way.
Shipping will be billed separately at the end of the campaign through BackerKit. For US orders add $15 per bag, and for international orders, add $100 per bag.
For US orders, the GO poster ships separately and is guaranteed to arrive by Dec 2016. The mug ships with suitcase, or separately for an additional cost.
Outside the US, all three items ship together.
Each bag comes with our 5-year warranty and free wheel replacements kits for life.
A special thank you to the following people who will always be a part of the original Team Tintico:
The Honor Roll - Our creative collaborators from day one.
Hack Studios - They hacked together our video - we can't recommend them enough.
Hotel Eleven - East Austin's newest hotel who allowed us to snap some great pics.
Risks and challenges
Manufacturing luggage isn't easy, we'll be honest. Lots of suppliers, customizations, and lead times. But to prepare for our launch we've already spent four months overseas with our manufacturer and all of our suppliers. Also, Don has done this before for Briggs and Riley, and with your support, we can build out our development team on the ground.
Only our customized wheels require development work and during that process Marcus and/or Don will be on the ground with our manufacturers to ensure they are made to our standard of quality.
We have a strong relationship with our manufacturer who produces for other major brands but already views us as a priority because of how much time we've spent testing prototypes. By building relationships ahead of time, we're in a great position to move quickly towards production.
Though it's difficult to plan for unforeseen circumstances, we feel prepared to tackle them if they arise. We are committed to keeping you informed every step along the way. Thanks for being a part of the journey.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
