UPDATE - We have surpassed our base goal of $1,500 thanks to all of you. We will definitely receive our Kickstarter funds now. That means we will have enough money to film the movie, but we're not done yet.
Our main goal is to raise $2,500. With any additional funds, we will be able to afford the expense of post-production costs, such as music and sound mixing which will increase the quality of the final film. This will help us be more competitive as we submit to film festivals against movies with budgets over $100,000. And of course, each festival has entry fees, so the more money we get, the more people will be able to see this great film.
Also, we finally decided on the title "Suspect" for our noir film. Yay! You have something to call the movie when you tell your friends about it! Thanks again and keep passing on this link.
This film noir style short follows two detectives as they investigate a murder victim found in a warehouse. The boyfriend seems to be the obvious suspect, but the real killer is still on the loose, challenging the department to scratch beneath the surface.
This entire planning process is taking place over the span of two weeks as our final project for this quarter within the Shoreline Community College Digital Filmmaking program.
Having an incredible script, stellar cast, and talented crew is only a part of the equation. To make the caliber of film that we can submit to festivals (which we plan to do), we will need professional equipment.
Our class has the unique opportunity to rent a Red M-X camera with accessories for $1,000, which is a significant discount. For those who are unfamiliar, the Red M-X is a professional grade camera used to shoot many Hollywood features.
We plan to seize this rare opportunity (and challenge) to capture the entire film in the 3 days which the camera is available to us, Dec. 2-4.
As community college students, this professional grade equipment is not easily afforded by us or our school. However, we are confident in this project and in our supporters. We look forward to sharing this incredible thriller with all of you!
The total amount we are aiming to raise through Kickstarter is at least $1,500. This will cover the camera rental for 3 days and help to cover the costs of costumes, props, permits, and locations. We have secured a $500 grant through Shoreline Community College, so we are already on our way to making our goal. However, we can't complete it without you!
