Fur Vs Scale: A Fantasy Card Game With Arcade Fighter Themes
A strategic fantasy card game with an arcade fighter theme. Anthropomorphic animal heroes battle over 4 rounds of combat!
Fur vs Scale is a fast-paced tabletop card game for 2-4 players, pitting anthropomorphic animal heroes of rival kingdoms against each other in strategic combat. The game captures the ebb and flow of an arcade fighter, challenging players to construct winning combinations of attacks, blocks, counters, super moves, finishers, and special abilities over four rounds of combat to reach 60 points and be crowned victor.

128 BATTLE-READY CARDS IN TOTAL!
The four miniatures included in the Collector's Bundle reward tier are being produced by our partner at RN Estudio. They are made of resin and are 30mm scale. The miniatures will be packaged in blister packs, ready to assemble and paint.
RN Estudio may sell Fur vs Scale miniatures at a later date in their own store. However, Luna's sword, Pumpkin's mouse totem, Malyss' skull, Snaggle's spiked tail bracer, and all four custom bases are exclusive to the versions offered here. They will only be available through this Kickstarter and via the Fur vs Scale website after the campaign (if any remain). Don't miss out!
Fur vs Scale takes place in the world of Junea, a land at war. The fragile peace that existed for decades between the Kindgom of Leon and the Kingdom of Wyrm is shattered by the disappearance of a sacred idol, and the quest to solve the mystery sets heroes from both lands on a dangerous collision course. Relive their tales of glorious combat and guide your chosen hero to victory!
In Fur vs Scale, players fight, head to head, against an opponent in up to four rounds of strategic combat in an effort to score 60 or more Battle Points.
CHOOSE YOUR HERO
Each hero is represented by their own character deck and ability card, ensuring a variety of play experiences! Who will you choose?
BUILD YOUR MOVE LIST
At the start of every round, players draft a Move List from their hero's pool of cards. This pool contains Attack, Block, Counter, and Super cards of varying values. Each player draws 4 cards, keeps 2 and returns 2 to the bottom of the deck in any order. This is done 3 times until each player has 6 cards for the round.
If a match lasts all 4 rounds, a player will end up using all but 6 of their cards at some point. This makes building a Move List highly strategic as each player must decide which cards to best play immediately and which cards to bank for later use. Select poorly and a player may find their hero unable to execute Special Abilities or a Finisher in later rounds!
SET FIGHT MAP & SCORE POINTS!
Once the Move Lists are built, each player alternates playing cards from their hand to the table. This collection of cards is called the Fight Map and is a visual representation of the combat flow that round. Cards are strung together to create point combinations or reduce an opponent's point total.
Each card type may interact with the cards around it. For example, a Block card will reduce the point value of Attack or Counter cards to the left before generating points.
In the example above, Pumpkin's Block 7 absorbs Malyss' Attack 5. Malyss' Attack card is reduced to 0 and Pumpkin's Block is reduced to 2.
Like Block cards, a Counter card will also reduce the point value of Attack or Counter cards to the left, but it also affects Counter and Block cards to the right!
In the example above, Malyss' Counter 9 card reduces Pumpkin's Attack card value from 1 to 0, and leaves her with a Counter value of 8. She would normally gain 8 points, but Pumpkin uses a Block 7 card. This reduces Malyss' Counter value from 8 to 1 and Pumpkin's Block value from 7 to 0 (the minimum). Malyss only gains 1 point, but her card effectively neutralizes two of Pumpkin's cards!
Attack cards can be powerful point generators and affect Blocks and Counters to the right. However, they are vulnerable to the left!
In the example above, poor Pumpkin left himself vulnerable by placing his Attack 1 card without effective coverage to the left. Malyss quickly slips in an Attack 5 Card to take advantage. She not only gains a quick 5 points, but her Counter 9 card generates another 8 points, after absorbing Pumpkin's off balance swipe, for a total of 13 points!
Cards must normally be placed on the left or right ends of the Fight Map, creating one horizontal row.
However, Supers are the powerful exception to the Fight Map placement rules. A Super card is not only worth the most points, but it may be placed anywhere on the Fight Map, creating opportunities for surprise combinations, Special Abilities or even an Finisher!
Rather than playing a card, a hero may instead use a Special Ability. These powers are unique to each hero, can alter the Fight Map, and quickly turn the tide of battle!
Stacking cards of the same type creates one monstrous value for the opponent to contend with. As an added benefit, stacking cards also nets the player a combo bonus for having 2 (or more) adjacent cards on the Fight Map!
Need to give your card or combo a little boost to fight off an opponent's combination? Block cards can also be used face down to Power Up cards on the Fight Map!
Survive until round 3 or 4 and try to execute your Finisher! Every hero has a unique combination of cards that will result in their Finisher appearing on the Fight Map. This card acts like a bookend, blocking players from placing any cards after it and destroying any cards currently placed beyond it! Plus, it's worth 15 points by itself! Excellent!
Gameplay Overview Video
Part 1: Basic Gameplay
This short, 6-minute video previews the basic mechanics of Fur vs Scale. Future videos will delve into more advanced mechanics like Special Abilities, Combinations, Finishers and more.

Popular boardgame reviewer, Undead Viking loves Fur vs Scale and put together a wonderful video preview/review of the game! Among other things, he notes,
"There's a lot of game in this little tiny box, and it's a heck of a lot of fun....It's also one of those games that you can teach in about 5 minutes, but mastering it and grasping it takes a long time, and you know what that means. It means lots of replayability and lots of bringing it back to the table."
At $15,000 the Fur vs Scale campaign will be fully funded, enabling me to deliver an awesome game to your table. However, with your help, we can pack even more content into the box and further enhance the game experience!
What follows are the initial campaign stretch goals. Information about each stretch goal will be revealed when unlocked. More stretch goals will be added as the campaign advances!
... More To Come!
This is my second game published with the help of Kickstarter. My first, Dragon Clash, was completed and delivered to backers early and at a premium quality. My hope is that I can execute Fur vs Scale with the same success.
To facilitate a smooth production, I've already invested my own funds to design, test and publish an early Preview Edition of the game, complete with full color packaging and four completed heroes. This is the edition that has been sent to reviewers. I have also invested the funds needed to begin production on the miniatures added to the Collector's Bundle. These have already been modeled and 3D prints and resin casting are in process.
The game is well on it's way, but I need your help! Through this Kickstarter, I aim to increase the component quality to a premium offering, with better quality cards and packaging. I want to load the game with even more content, including new game modes and heroes, and fund a larger print run so I can bring the game to many more tabletops than I would be able to by myself.
With your help, Fur vs Scale will be a bigger and better experience for all. Thank you for your support! Happy gaming!

Fur vs Scale is being shipped to all locations via USPS. If your rewards are being delivered to you in the USA, your shipping is FREE!
Given the high expense of international shipping, I am forced to charge additional shipping for backers outside the USA. Those backers receive a shipping discount and the final shipping cost is noted when you make your pledge and select your rewards. I'd love to offer free worldwide shipping, but sadly the costs would quickly become prohibitive. Thank you for your understanding.

Risks and challenges
The delivery estimates for backer rewards factor in the anticipated time to produce and ship the game, based on information from my partners and my own past publishing experience.
My goal is to deliver the game at (or before) those estimates. If obstacles arise, I will be transparent and honest in discussing those. To that end here are the areas that have the potential to cause delays.
1) Printing: Unexpected delays in production or shipping/customs at my printing partner could push the estimated delivery date.
2) Stretch Goals: I have built in time to accommodate the artwork and design needed for anticipated stretch goals. However, estimates may need to be revised depending on artist availability and design/production considerations.
3) Miniatures: Work on the collectible miniatures has already begun, but production or shipping delays with my partner, RN Estudio, may lead to delays in shipping the reward tiers where the miniatures are included.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
