Hey backers and believers!
We have an opportunity to take a special piece called mapping to the streets of Tijuana, México, this summer.Since the first Mapping last summer in the Local Produce Festival in Brooklyn, we've taken it to gardens and community spaces across three boroughs.
Thanks to a generous grant from FONCA and el Gobierno de México, I had the opportunity to create mapping during a residency here in NYC, and now is time for me to pay them back, by taking my two newest pieces back to México, mapping and Ripping Up The Finish at the festival I was recently selected for the V Encuentro de Jovenes Creadores. México, get ready.
We plan to present mapping in multiple outdoor communal spaces in Tijuana, with a focus on engaging children in dance in a way that is perceivably spontaneous for the child. As artists, we can trace events throughout our lives that inspired us, invigorated us, or perhaps piqued our interest in the arts for the first time. Many times, those moments are not confined to a classroom, they occur in our natural environment, they touch the corners of our lives and intersect with us in places and times we don't expect.
A populated family space, like a park or a plaza, open to the community. We hope to inspire some artists to apply to realize the cool opportunities that exist for Mexican artists like FONCA and PECDA. The prevailing theme is that contemporary art is not limited to theaters and is accessible to everyone.
Every dime donated to the project will go to costs associated with the production of this piece to include

mapping was a hit and continued throughout the Summer!
We were invited to perform mapping in July for the Sunset Park Dance Day.
Next spot was La Plaza Cultural for the GROUNDPLAN Art Festival in August
Garden of Hope in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
This year, mapping was invited to the Lumen Festival in Staten Island on Saturday June 28th.
Now with your help we'll be mapping in Tijuana!!

Risks and challenges
The best thing about traveling with mapping is that it is light on props and doesn't require much more than the dancers and the chosen setting for the piece. This limits bulky moving pieces and reduces our vulnerability to logistical mishaps.
But, Dance is a contact sport. Should an emergency arise and a dancer be unable to perform, we have built in some options to allow us to adapt the piece and still be able to perform.
I'm asking my fellow collaborators to be away from home and take time off from their other projects and families. I need to compensate everyone who is working hard on this project. This risk will be successfully mitigated against if our project is backed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
