This film has been our labour of love for over 7 years, but with only a few hours left- we could really use your support. If we raise our fundraising goal of $60,000, we'll make the final journey towards completing the film.
Please get in touch if we could answer any questions for you.
At the heart of “The Man Who Saved the World” stands Stanislav Petrov, the Russian Lt. Colonel, who sacrificed everything by disobeying the chain of nuclear launch commands; changing the fate of the world as we know it.
Few people know of him...yet conceivably hundreds of millions of people are alive because of him. Stanislav Petrov, a retired Soviet military officer, is credited with preventing the start of World War III and the nuclear devastation of much of the Earth.
On September 26, 1983 he was the commanding officer on duty at the Soviet nuclear early warning center, when the system falsely reported the launching of five nuclear missiles from the United States. In the harrowing moments that followed, Petrov overruled the system's warning, personally declaring that it was a false alarm. This monumental decision prevented an erroneous retaliatory nuclear attack on the United States and its Western allies.
This false nuclear attack warning is
cited by CIA analyst Peter Pry as "the single most dangerous incident
of the early 1980s."
His courageous decision deserves recognition and by bringing his story to a wider audience, we believe we can invigorate the global discussion on nuclear elimination. The events of September 26, 1983 remains a stark example of the precarious situation we still find ourselves in as we head towards the future. Mistakes do happen, and it will always be up to human
beings to make the final choice.
Over the past 5 years, we have been weaving together the fabric of Stanislav’s story and the impact his decision has had on each and every one of us. We’re currently in the final stages of post-production, so we’re reaching out to you for support in helping us cross the finish line.
HELP US BRING STANISLAV'S STORY TO LIFE.
The Soviet military did not reward or honor Stanislav Petrov for his actions. His once promising military career had come to an end. Like a Greek tragedy, he looses everything; his job, his wife, his dignity.
WHY SHOULD I HELP YOU MAKE THIS FILM?
We would like to see this film play a meaningful role in the growing debate over nuclear elimination. Our hope is that by bringing to life the true story of Stanislav Petrov, we can remind the world of the ongoing threat of nuclear weapons. It is our ambition to combine the truth of the documentary with the artistic, visual language of a feature film.

Risks and challenges
Making a film is always a long and expensive process that carries a great deal of risk. At this point, we have garnered all the funding possible from our collaborators, but still need to raise capital to cover our FX budget before the film can be finished. During the filming process, we employed extensive use of green screens, so these elements must be finalized in post FX before the film is ready to go public.
However, we are a team of experienced filmmakers, and we fully understand the complexity, dedication, and funding it will take to see this project through to the end. We have received great responses from various distributors and NGO's and are extremely committed to getting this film out to as many people as possible and as soon as possible, so that we can renew the debate on nuclear proliferation.
If we exceed our fund raising goals, every additional dollar raised will help us engage in a broad marketing and PR campaign that will help bring awareness to this very important issue.
