About this project
Innovation is the keyword of our new product, and covers both the design and the manufacturing process of the new 3D bases.
They are manufactured using a new product from the polyurethane family. To be noted this is quite different from anything you may have seen before as it is used at an industrial level for heavy duty applications.
We however understand first-hand the huge potentialities of such a material for making tri-dimensional terrain for wargaming.
We have tested these bases thoroughly and they are nearly indestructible, very flexible and easy to modify with a pair of scissors or a craft knife, they are simply amazing. It is possible to paint the bases with acrylic colour paint and glue on the finishing touches(grass and vegetation) with a simple glue for wood(PVA) without any problems.
Our new material, while being nothing similar to plastic or resin, it combines the greatest aspects of both materials: it has the same lightness as a normal plastic gaming tile of similar design and shape, and it has the same visual definition that the ones made of resin have. So you get the best of both worlds!
The bases can be used with miniatures in the 25-35mm scale range. The dimensions of the bases are 30x30cm. (approx 12x12inches), with a thickness of about 2mm for the flat bases and the more detailed bases still have the same basic 2mm thickness, but can rise up to 70-80mm in height.
After 48 hours, you have chosen the new add-ons for the 3D Bases Kickstarter!!! It's nice to see that all those Add-ons have the Abbey, a sign that indeed it's a very loved piece! We have also our first 16-pack Add-on!
Here they are:
Manorhouse Workshop (MHW) was born in 1999 by Lorenzo Marchetto, following his passion for his hobby of modelling (model making) and wargaming. Lorenzo's love for the medieval era soon gave birth to a world of manors, villages, dark cemeteries and even more frightening underground crypts, which blended perfectly with skirmish and wargaming games. MHW soon created fully modular products, easy to store and with limitless potentialities, over the years the number of kits available has grown into the hundreds. In the 17 years of its activity, MHW has collaborated with many of the great companies of our gaming world: Games Workshop, Rackham, Italeri, Wizards of the Coast, etc... MHW then proceeded on through the use of the internet to make itself known to a wider audience. Always looking at the future, we are ready now in 2016 with a new material never before used in our market. While keeping strongly at heart to our modular policy, which is of utmost importance to us and for our fellow gamers, the 3D Bases project will use this new material and it will allow you and us to create and use an infinite number of kits, thanks to you.
3D Bases are guests from Warren on Beasts of War. you can see them at the minute: 10.18
As of now all components for our project are ready and most of the moulds for our bases are also already in production. At the start of the Kickstarter all moulds of our bases will be ready. This means we could technically start the production immediately. You will probably then ask us "why then launch a Kickstarter if we have all the moulds and materials ready?" The Kickstarter will allow us to buy a big quantity of this innovative material (from which the bases are made of) which is still a bit costly, so with a big order we can get the material at a better lower price. The discount we will get will be included in the price for all backers, so you will all benefit from it. Thank you all for your support!
Before explaining the pledges, we'd like to give you pledge manager. Here is the link (open it, save a copy, and you're set) :
We'd like to point out that this video has also English subtitles. If you don't see them just click on the subtitles option of the video on YouTube.
How, let's illustrate all our pledges and pledges policy:
Besides the Special Abbey Pledge (which is tailored to backers who want just the Abbey), we have 3 very simple but complete pledges levels (Scout, Captain and General) to give all backers the most freedom into getting all the bases they want with their pledges. The money invested in the Scout, Captain, and General pledges can be used to purchase our add-ons from those available in the 3D Bases Kickstarter project. There is no limit to the money you can invest in a single pledge.
All pledges have a maximum number available for grabs. Once a pledge has been completely assigned to our backers, we will open a similar pledge with the same price as on our original Kickstarter pledge. The reason we're assigning a maximum number of pledges is to divide them into delivery categories. We're positive to respect the delivery dates assigned to our pledges. Successive pledges will have later delivery dates. We have our production scheduled with care, and know how much we can produce and handle in a given time frame.
By buying our add-ons, you get approximately from 20 to 40% discount over the final retail price! We'll update the images soon so that you will have all retail prices written. In the meantime, if you want to see our retail prices, check Update #9
Kickstarter prices for a single unit of 3D Bases
The revolutionary material we are using for producing our 3D Bases needs some specific production & logistics process. It is more simple and quick for us (and thus, least costly) to manage the production and delivery of fixed groups of bases than dealing with complex packaging and logistics with multiple single unit of tiles.
For this reason, we encourage you to select our add-ons where multiple bases are offered instead of choosing single unit of bases (as per the Single Bases add-on). You will get some good savings on the process and will help us getting to you your tiles on time, and probably even sooner than anticipated!
Still, if you wish to add just a single base to your pledge you can. The code and prices for each base are shown below:
AVATARS! Ready to launch the Kickstarter.
Shipping & Handling will be charged after the Kickstarter finishes based on actual costs incurred to ship and is collected via our pledge manager system. This allows us to charge fairly for all backers and avoid a 'one size fits all' mentality to shipping.
All pledges will be produced and sent from Italy. Shipping & Handling Prices will vary depending on your country and the overall weight of the 3D Bases you purchased. We used 2 formulas. One for an most Captain Pledge packages (5kg) and one for a bigger package (12kg), which could be used for big backers or backers that team up with a single Kickstarter account to share and lower delivery costs. Keep in mind these are just estimates, and costs may rise or lower depending on your final package and unlocked stretch unlocked goals you would get.
Our Pledge Manager allows you to calculate how much your pledge weights.
Our Kickstarter is Europe-friendly and USA-friendly and we are waiting for the final estimated costs for a Canada-friendly delivery too.
5 Kg (most Captain Pledges):
Italy: 12 €
Europe 21 € to 28 €
USA: 32$ (USD) to 38$ (USD) (lower is East Coast, higher is West Coast)
Australia: 65 €
12 kg (big General pledges over 300€ of material):
Italy: 16 €
Europe 32 € to 48 €
USA: 34$ (USD) to 52$ (USD) (lower is East Coast, higher is West Coast)
Australia: 99 €
If you are not in a "delivery-friendly country" (read, anything but Europe and USA), delivery prices are dropping for most countries. Indeed, while we weren't able to get a "delivery friendly quote" for Canada and Australia yet, we managed to get a better quote for nearly all other countries out there.
Here they are:
Captain Pledges (in general 5kg, it drops if it gets lighter of course)
Brazil & Canada: 46 €
New Zealand: 54€
Hong Kong: 44€
General Pledges (divided in two new weight categories)
Brazil & Canada: 59 (6 to 10kg) to 74 (11 to 15kg)
Mexico: 56€ (6 to 10kg) or 69€ (11 to 15kg)
New Zealand: 74€ (6 to 10kg) or 104€ (11 to 15kg)
Hong Kong: 56€ (6 to 10kg) or 69€ (11 to 15kg)
For other countries (but for Europe and the USA) or even bigger weights, don't hesitate to ask for a new quote in private.
Update 24th of June:
For UK Backers, do not fear. The recent result of the UK going out of the E.U. isn't affecting the Kickstarter or customs. By law, 2 years need to pass before the exit from the E.U. can come to pass.
Risks and challenges
MHW did its first crowfunding experience on Indiegogo, about an innovative vacuum casting method, which allowed resin kits to be printed on both sides. This crowdfunding experience taught us a lot, starting from the very first project phase, to the logistics and delivery, passing through the production done by a third party outside of MHW. All this made us grow and understand better how to manage such a complex experience like crowdfunding. We didn't yet complete fully the deliveries on the Indiegogo project. It's 95% delivered. One of the product, the Castle, created a lot of issues and caused those backers to have to wait for the final delivery. We can't stress enough how sorry we are for this. Thankfully, the wait is over, since we very recently delivered the first missing Castle and others will follow.
If we could cast the few remaining Castles ourselves, we would have completed the deliveries by now, but the innovative technology used to cast the Castle means the production is not done by MHW, but by another company. We are thus updating our Indiegogo backers on the Indiegogo page every time we receive a new Castle to be sent, and keeping a daily contact with the company producing them so to close the last remaining deliveries as soon as possible. In short, we definitively learnt from our errors with this Indiegogo project, and so we are approaching this new Kickstarter with a completely and radically different approach:
Contrary to a lot of Kickstarter projects, where you first receive the money, and then face the developing and productions costs afterwards, here we decided to invest funds, before the 3D Kickstarter launch, to have ready all moulds and prints necessary to the production of all 3D Bases. The product has been thus developed and tested thoroughly already. This means there won't be surprises or delays in the production.
This Kickstarter will allow us to buy the innovative material needed for the production, material which isn't really cheap ... but by buying a big quantity of it we can afford to purchase it at a discount, and this discount, you backers will be the first to benefit from it, since we are lowering our prices accordingly.
In short, when this Kickstarter will be funded successfully, we will be able to start immediately with the production of the 3D Bases. Of course, only after receiving all your pledge managers and having correctly managed each of them.
The delivery costs will be this time managed outside of the Kickstarter : they will be thus more customized per single backer, which will allow each one of you to get a better price.
To sum up: the risk, and waiting time, for our 3D Bases Kickstarter, are slim to none.
A big thank you for your much needed support from MHW.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
