Wondermark’s Jigsaw Puzzles of Fictional Victorian Charts
HOORAY, THE CAMPAIGN’S OVER!
Thanks for all your all your support!! For more information, updates, and of course the completed puzzles (once they're finished), visit: wondermark.com/puzzle
HELLO GOOD MORNING IT’S TIME FOR...
Hello, I see you have a Kickstarter campaign. What can I get as rewards?
You can get puzzles, or posters, or books. Or combinations of all of the above!
What if I don’t like puzzles?
Puzzles are a Rorschach test. So maybe...maybe you don't like YOURSELF? Just saying!
Hey are you the guy who did that Machine of Death Kickstarter?
Check out these different types of rewards!
There are three puzzle designs available, and I am also offering my existing six posters and seven books.
Each puzzle is 1000 pieces and approx. 19 x 26". Each puzzle also comes in a BOX.
The posters, which are not puzzles, are each 16 x 20".
- You can get any single puzzle, poster, or book;
Or, multiples and combinations of the same items. The tiers should be pretty self-explanatory.
- At the top of the rewards list, “UPDATES ONLY” is in case you just want to keep in touch and hear from me periodically! You won't get anything in the mail or anything except MY FRIENDSHIP insofar as it can be communicated via Kickstarter updates.
- I've also partnered with master puzzlemaker Chris Yates to offer a limited number of special hand-cut wooden puzzles! Scroll down a little for more info about that.
- Way down at the bottom, the SPECIAL and MADNESS rewards are for people with more money than sense. I hope you don't pick them, but if you do, I've made it worth my while so go nuts.
Here are the three puzzles I am hoping to make in this campaign!
(Click any image for a closer look)
The three designs above AND these three below are available as POSTERS:
(P.S. you can reblog most of these posters here if you like)
And here are the BOOKS available! These are collections of and from my comic strip, Wondermark. Maybe you have one or more of them already? Now's a great chance to fill out your collection. If you haven't, no worries, you can start reading anywhere!
You can learn more about these books, and see what people think of them, on Goodreads here! SPOILER: I wouldn't put the link if I wasn't pretty confident in the result
If any single tier doesn't include everything you want, you can also consider...
Feel free to choose any tier, then add the amount below to your pledge total to add any of these items à la carte to your pledge. Feel free to add as many instances as you like – we will ask you later which designs or titles specifically to send you.
The weird penny amounts are so we can easily track which add-ons you've ordered! Please add the exact amount listed, otherwise it will confuse us and make everything take longer.
- ADD ON 1 OF ANY PUZZLE = ADD $25.03
- ADD ON 1 OF ANY POSTER = ADD $15.05
- ADD ON 1 OF ANY BOOK = ADD $10.07
Outside the US, please add an additional $9 for each item added on.
The $9 shipping charge outside the US is required for every discrete additional item. (e.g. 2 add-ons = $18 extra.) This helps keep the shipping costs from being a huge financial sinkhole for us, and also helps to cover the extra work of managing the add-ons.
If this is outside your budget, please do not pledge! We can still be friends without this contentious issue getting between us.
Chris Yates and I have been friends for a long time! For years and years he's been making puzzles by hand using a scroll saw. For a few lucky backers, Chris will make hand-made puzzles as part of this Kickstarter!
Chris' puzzles are unique, unpredictable, and for this campaign exclusively, can be customized with either poster artwork, or any Wondermark or comic, single panel, or other image (that I have made) of your choice.
We are offering five 8x10" custom puzzles, one 12x15", and one 16x20". Note: For the 12x15" and 16x20" puzzles, the tier gets you the custom puzzle only. If you want books, posters, or other puzzles, they must be added on separately in the manner detailed above. And I encourage you to do so!
As always, if you have any questions, please message me on KS or ask me on Twitter (@malki) before you pledge!
We're so excited to have fully funded!! If we make it to these additional amounts, I'm pleased to announce these two stretch goals:
If we reach 150% funding (17,266.50):
I will work with Feral Cat to create an Official Feral Cat Sound Pack for you to download as ringtones, text alerts, etc.! Check out the video above for a brief example of what that might sound like.
If we reach 200% funding (23,022):
I will enclose, with every puzzle shipped, a single blank Emergency Replacement Puzzle Piece so that your puzzle may still be usable even if a piece is lost! (Assuming you lose the same shape piece as the replacement you receive.) These pieces will be blank, so you can easily draw on the missing artwork.
This is a service I have seen NO OTHER PUZZLE OFFER in the HISTORY OF MY LIFE, so I'm very pleased to announce that this offer is EXCLUSIVE to the Wondermark Jigsaw Puzzle Campaign.
If the campaign is successful, we expect the puzzles will arrive from the factory and begin shipping by March 2015. Poster-only and book-only tiers will ship earlier (before the end of 2014).
International orders will ship via U.S. Postal Service, with customs documents specifying the contents as a Kickstarter Reward.
After the Machine of Death campaign, I reviewed our shipping procedures to make sure we avoid as many predictable problems as possible.
However: if you live in Brazil, Greece, Italy, Russia, or Eastern Europe, please assume that at least 30% of your local postal employees are bridge trolls in disguise with insatiable appetites for packages, and guard your livestock accordingly. In general, we cannot be responsible for any local charges incurred on delivery. If you live in Argentina, check your customs rules to see if puzzles can even be imported successfully.
If you have any specific questions or concerns about shipping, please feel free to message me before you back the project!
Risks and challenges
The last time I did a Kickstarter campaign, I learned a lot of things that I hope to apply proactively to this project. This time around I'm trying to make it a deliberately simpler campaign, and if issues do arise, they will surely be smaller in scale than the ones we managed to solve before.
Because the puzzles will be printed in Asia, ocean travel and customs will be one point of concern. This could cause unforeseen delays. The boat might sink. Weirder things have happened, some of them to me. There is still a wizard on the loose out there somewhere.
To mitigate this risk, I have deliberately placed my expected delivery date far in the future, so I won't have to fight the busy holiday ocean-freight season.
Our manufacturer is a very well-known puzzle printer and the samples and proofs we have reviewed have been well within our exacting standards. So that's good news! The only other rewards, posters and books, are either already in hand, or can easily be reordered.
With my last project, backers in some countries were charged extra duties or taxes when their package arrived, or they had their shipments refused or returned for various reasons. With respect to those issues that we have identified the causes of, we will absolutely do things differently this time. Still, international shipping is always somewhat risky, so there may be delivery problems we cannot yet anticipate. If they arise, we are on call to help backers through any difficulty, and we offer one free reship for any package returned to us.
I have a European distributor on standby to potentially handle fulfillment for puzzle orders shipping to the EU. Whether this will be viable or not will entirely depend on order volume – it's possible it won't make economic sense. In any case, it wouldn't save postage costs for me or backers, but it would allow EU backers to avoid paying VAT (I'll pay it on the bulk shipment, instead) and it would increase the delivery speed and reliability of EU orders.
If we go that route, we might encounter delays or errors due to the process of transferring backer information to them. Because they would be doing the EU puzzle shipping, their workflows would not be overseen by me personally. I have faith in them, but it is indeed somewhat of a risk...and a challenge.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
