New expansion pack tier! LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CARDS
We've got so many stretch goals now, and the Add-Ons have been proving so popular, that earlier today my head was starting to spin keeping it all straight. I made a list on a piece of paper, but that didn't help. Then I wrote on a whiteboard, and that helped a little, but it got kind of scribbly. I asked a bird what he thought, and he said "cheap", which I think was an insult, so I threw a shoe at him, and I missed, and now I'm short one shoe but at least that bird knows he can't just INSULT people.
Anyway then I came back inside and had a drink of water and laid down and felt better, and when I got up I made some dummy card decks out of scrap paper and tape because DANGIT I OWN AN INDUSTRIAL PAPER CUTTER and I have to USE IT. The dummies helped me visualize exactly how many cards we're talking about now -- and of course, I want you to know all about the cards too, so you know whether you want the expansion packs or not. (I talk about all of this in the video, too.)
Here's a link to yesterday's rules overview in case you missed it, and here's a capsule summary of the different types of cards in the game:
- Death cards. The base game comes with 100, plus another 50-75 are being created by INFAMY and TYCOON backers. You will use one of these per round of play -- for every target you attempt to kill, you'll draw one death card.
- Black Market Gift Cards. The base game comes with about 75 physical cards (30 different ones, with duplicates), plus any more that TYCOON and FROM ABOVE backers wish to create. These "buy" different types of items for you to use in your assassination plans. In Head-to-Head Mode, each player is issued two per round; in Co-Op mode, the team collectively draws three or more per round; in Mission Mode; the team has 20 per 4-round game. These are used a lot.
- Specialist Cards. These are characters with special skills that you can call for backup. They're interchangeable with Gift Cards, and the rules of their use depend on the game mode. The base game comes with 36 of these (12 different characters with 3 cards each).
- Goahead Cards. These are three cards that are used in Head-to-Head mode only.
The Webcomics Pals will be creating a mix of different types of cards, but I'm hoping it will come to about 10 cards per artist. Those will be added to every order at no extra charge (digital versions if you pledge at a digital level; physical versions if you pledge at a physical level). But they won't come in the actual game box, because there won't be room.
Enter the new SIDECAR tier. This tier gets you the game as per usual, plus all six Add-On sets of death cards in a second game box all their own – a box that the Webcomics Pals cards will also fit into. And if we add any more expansion sets, they'll all fit in the SIDECAR box as well. I'll make sure of it!
The Deluxe Box – the laser-etched wooden box – will always fit everything. That one is still the only way to get everything in one box. But the SIDECAR box will match the main game box and the two of them will look nice together, like friends.
If you've previously used the Add-On page to get the six expansion sets, you're fine – you'll get the SIDECAR box by default. However, you can change to the SIDECAR tier proper at any time, if you prefer. This will ensure that you will always get any MORE expansions that we decide to add later. Think of SIDECAR as the "overflow bucket." Any more cards that we add to the game will be included in SIDECAR. (Whereas with the Add-Ons, you're just getting those 6 sets.)
In addition, for international customers, SIDECAR may have cheaper shipping than the Add-On page. Because the Add-Ons require more handling, we can't discount shipping prices the way we can on tiers. (In most of the regular tiers, the international shipping listed is actually a bit less than we'll end up paying.)
So to reiterate – for the base game, including stretch goal cards, you want PLAYED ON. (Or, with the MOD book, BOOKED.)
For the base game AND all the additional expansions, you want SIDECAR. (Or, with the MOD book, SPINDLED.) And yes – if you'd prefer the versions of the Add-On cards that come in the tins, you'll be able to specify that (when you give us your shipping info, months from now). In that case you'd get the cards, in the tins, INSIDE the extra box.
For all the cards all in one box, you want BOXED IN. (Or, with the book + shirt + poster as well, LUXURY.)
And of course, you can still Add On individual T-shirts, posters, more copies of the game, etc. to any tier via the Add-On page. If you do decide to change your Add-On, just reply to your confirmation email to let me know about the change, and I'll update your record in our spreadsheet! You can change or modify your Add-Ons at any time.
Thanks for bearing with me on all this stuff, folks – it's a bit like knitting a sweater for a dog that KEEPS GROWING as you KNIT and so you have to undo parts of it and add new parts in a different place but then it's GROWN AGAIN and so you have to wonder WHO EVEN KNITS DOG SWEATERS ANYWAY
WHILE THE DOG IS IN THEM
AND WHILE THE DOG IS GROWING
WHO DOES THIS EXCEPT A CRAZY PERSON okay I answered my own question.
It's my wife's birthday tomorrow (today?), so I'm taking the day off. We're going on a field trip to see the space shuttle! Questions and comments will be addressed when I return. Thanks so much everyone!
