16 days to go and we've gotten our first stretch goal!
Today's Fact: Lemurs get in “stink” fights where they make their tails extra smelly and shake them at each other (World Wildlife Fund.) They also think the moon landing didn’t happen.
Stickers and books!
Thanks to backer Corey for getting us past our first stretch goal! Everybody will be getting a sticker sheet made up of art from the book. And who doesn't love stickers?
One of our reward levels feels very lonely: One Book + In Book Drawing, where you get a sketch in the book. The reward could be right for folks if a) they wanted some original art but their favorite animal original art is already taken or b) they want a specific animal. These are going to be full blown drawings, so keep that in mind!
Detailing the Design
We've gotten some questions about the design of the book as it pertains to younger readers. While the book isn't for early or emerging readers to read on their own, we are paying attention to text size so that as animal enthusiasts grow up they can be engaged with the book beyond the bright colors and fun art.
Animal Artist Appreciation: Ed Emberley
Ed Emberley's books, published since the late 1960s, are wonderful instructional guides on shape, line and color. He's created over 100 books that teach readers of any age the drawing process. He's a long time influence on my drawing techniques which you can really see in the moles and the quails.
The two drawings above are from Ed Emberley's Drawing Pages. They release drawing sheets for you to practice with every month. I love the internet.
