About this project

My name is Malima Kone. Music is my way, it spreads love and understanding to all people. I am here on Kickstarter asking everyone to please help me record my first album. Music is my life. I was born into a Griot (Jeli) family in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Griots are an oral library of our culture's history told through music and song that is passed on from generation to generation.

Check out this video of Les Harmonies live - Feb 16th 2012

Growing up I was taught to play music by my father, grandfather, and brothers since I was five years old and at the age of ten I started composing my own music. I came to the United States when I was sixteen years old because of a documentary film made by Taale Laafi Roseellini about my family's musical traditions called Great Great Great Grandparents Music.

As a child I was greatly inspired by reggae and African folk music. Today I am offering a unique style of world acoustic reggae music. The album will feature thirteen songs sung in five languages—Bwamu, Bamana/Jula, Moore, French and English. My songs talk about social issues throughout the world such as poverty, lack of education, orphans and children of the street. My vision for this album is to inspire hope, compassion, and love.

It has always been in my dreams since I was young to one day record an album. The past ten years I have been composing these songs, but I have not had the funds to accomplish my dream. My songs are finished and ready to record. I have a band named Les Harmonies made up of 7 musicians that will be part of this album. So again, I am here on Kickstarter asking everyone to please help make this album possible. The money raised will go to paying for the studio recording sessions, remastering, mixing, the CD design, and paying the musicians. If any money is leftover I will use it for album promotion.
