The Grand Experiment
Flash back to late 2012—December, to be exact. I stumbled, blindfolded out of a large SUV full of similarly blindfolded people. My mask removed, I found myself staring at a large, lakefront house. This would be my home for the next 12 days, and those inside would be my new roommates. Things were never the same after that.
As a contestant on the reality web series, Strip Search, I grew in ways I would never have expected, and at the same time became frighteningly aware of my own weaknesses. Nowhere were my new strengths and realized weaknesses put to the test than when Penny Arcade's Mike and Jerry delivered the final challenge to us Finalists.
I was to come up with a pitch for a new comic. It had to be good.
Spoilers: It wasn't quite good enough. But I still want to make this comic a reality, and I want you to be a part of that.
Sufficiently Remarkable is a story and character driven comic set in Brooklyn, NY. It follows the lives of two young, post-collegiate women who are trying to get a grip on life. Or at least one of them is, anyway.
Riti is smart, cautious, analytical, and at the start of the story has found herself fallen to the classic New York artist trope: She works a retail job and is just trying to be noticed. Meanwhile, her roommate Meg idly saunters through life, jobless and just trying to keep herself amused.
Through a string of coincidences and chance meetings, their lives are irrevocably changed, and we'll follow them as they find love, enter in the battle versus the forces of evil, face the ultimate sacrifice, and struggle to find roach spray at four in the morning. It's a fun romp through the slimy morass of human nature, filled with a host of odd characters. It's a comedic look just how complicated life can be, made ever more complicated by the scheming Anton and dopey Rich.
Appropriately, Sufficiently Remarkable doesn't fit into any one comic category. Expect absurd hilarity to give way to poignant introspection at any time.
Sufficiently Remarkable is story and character driven, above all else, and a grand departure from my usual work. Though, to be fair, my first webcomic—drawn when I was in high school—was also a long-form story, so SuRe feels more like a warm return rather than a departure. A chance encounter with an old friend, and all the degrees of Kevin Bacon.
Each arc is preceded by a memory from Riti's childhood days spent with her doting father. They set the stage for the story to come, and give us brief glimpses into what makes Riti tick.
I Will Kindly Be Quiet and Accept Your Money
Supporting this project will guarantee that Sufficiently Remarkable sees the light of day with two updates a week for a whole year. Your contributions will also go towards providing this new comic (and any that follow it) with a robust home on the internet.
Those Who Dare, Win

I hope that whet your appetite.
From the bottom of my stone cold, bearded visage, I thank you for supporting Sufficiently Remarkable. A comic for the people, of the people, and by me.
Should this project be funded, how much farther are you willing to go? How far am I willing to go to make it really worth it? Let's take a look at the Stretch Goals...
Update 7/2/2013: WE KICKED IT! Everybody at the $75 level or above gets a commemorative print!
Update 7/3/2013: We've hit the first Stretch Goal! All project backers at or above the $125 level get an extra variant patch and pin.
17K Surprise Stretch Goal: HIT! Your generosity has warmed my heart. I'll illustrate any letter, breakup or not, and send the previous reward tiers to the recipient of the letter. Don't think I've gone soft, though...
7/5/2013New Stretch Goal Unveiled: Pineapple Maki Search!
Since the dawning of Pineapple Maki and its subsequent cocktail, thousands, nay, dozens of recipes have been put forward as to what combination of libations should be decanted into a hallowed-out pineapple. Now we're going to find out, once and for all.
As part of this new stretch goal, Maki and LoadingReadyRun will produce a one-shot internet webisode where the various contenders to the Pineapple throne will be quaffed, judged, and maybe quaffed again until only one drink remains.
You read that right, I'll be collecting your submissions, and we will drink every single one until a winner is crowned or I die. (Though for time, we'll probably only show the finalists in the episode.)
Expect to see familiar faces, guest judges, drunken antics, and more!
Further Stretch goals may include:
32K - Original music composed by StripSearch composer Bradley Rains
34K - An actual prize for the winner.

Don of Mars Hit! Donald of Mars follows the story of a Jet Propulsion Laboratory spokesperson who is mysteriously sent to Mars as part of a cover-up. There, he meets the last Martian, Yxxll, and together with the Curiosity Rover, they set out to explore the desolate wasteland that was once the great civilization of Mars. Obviously a nod to the works of Ray Bradbury and Edgar Rice Burroughs, Donald of Mars is fantastical science fiction tale which will finally explain who the Martians are, what happened to them, and how Yxxll ended up on a future reality television show.
Bonus: All backers at the $425 level receive all previous rewards (excluding limited availability tiers).
Update 7/10/2013: The 25k stretch goal has been unlocked! All backers at the $100 level and above get another print featuring the cover of the Crowlmes and Flockson miniseries, The Hour of the Shrike, and all prints, posters, books, and postcards will be signed for all backers! Hooray!

Risks and challenges
Sufficiently Remarkable, once backed, is an experiment. Statistically, most experiments fail. Such is the risk involved in anything.
But 98% of the fun is in the experiment itself: The anticipation, the suspense, the conflict, climax, and denouement. I hope that no matter the outcome of this experiment, you'll enjoy the process with me, and we'll see many years of Sufficiently Remarkable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The additional cost was only added to the tiers that featured a physical item. Though many of the non-physical rewards end up including physical items due to inclusion of previous rewards. To perfectly clear things up: All physical items being mailed outside the US will incur a $10 charge. Sorry if there was any confusion!
I admire your confidence in me reaching that mark. When the time comes, and the barber readies his blade, I will find your eyes in the crowd and thank you.
As Master of the Death of Love, I take my responsibility in shepherding those from the bliss of romantic relationships very seriously. Plus, I think this tier could be a lot of fun if done right.
Also, what a great way to send the person you used to love some Sufficiently Remarkable swag.
Simple. You write a letter in which you seek to end your relationship with your significant other, and I illustrate it. After that, the comic and all the previous reward tiers (excluding limited availability items) will be mailed TO THE RECIPIENT of your heartbreak. Think of it as a quantum of solace for your careless actions.
But you don't need to REALLY break up with anybody. Send it as a cruel Valentine's Day joke. Send it as a cruel joke in general. Don't make a breakup letter at all. We can work it out. Sometimes.
It's spun with gold thread, I swear. It's important to remember that a Kickstarter project is not a store. When you back a tier, you not only pay for the item itself, but sometimes all the items that preceded it, the time spent producing it, as well as making a contribution to the project as a whole. Think of it as investing in a larger goal, but with neat rewards along the way.
Well, if you don't back that tier, guess I'll have to unfollow you. Sorry, Grandad. Seriously, if I already follow you (hello, friend!) you still get an avatar and we can maybe work something out later. For instance, I could unfollow you, and then follow you. Problem solved. ...Or give you a Follow Friday shoutout. Whatever makes more sense.
The nature of many rewards in the project, such as having a character named after you, make setting a delivery date a tricky issue. At best, know that these sort of "In Story" rewards could be fulfilled at any point in the run of the comic. It might be the first day, or it might be a year down the road. I'm going to do my best to fulfill all these tiers within the defined project timeline, though.
