Wheezing. Spluttering. Gasping for air.
You are suddenly wrenched from your unconscious state, sweating in the thick, black darkness. An intense odour of charred flesh penetrates your nostrils. It reminds you of the time you were burning feathers off the bird for the Second-Winter feast. How deliciously tasty it had been once spatchcocked and spit-roasted! Your mind is suddenly wanders to the satisfying smell of roast chicken and you salivate.
But no birds fly here now. For they, to your knowledge, have long since been doomed. In fact, no animals were evacuated to this part of the Omniverse. The scalding air dries your mouth at once as you jolt yourself back to the here, to the now, and to the choking heat of the obscurity.
You draw yourself into a sitting position, lean back against the wall momentarily, then decide to hunch over so as to breathe easier. But you cannot. It is only now, as you scan your surroundings with half-drunk eyes that you notice a light before you in the distance.
Now the sound of crackling. Or is it dripping? Or both?
That stench of scorched meat again…
You should move.
