Hello everyone. We are Major Parkinson. Our ideas are still bigger than our pockets. So it's that time again. We turn to you for salvation.
The gist of it
We are well underway in completing our 4th studio album. In fact, the recording is nearly done. But on our way here, we've scraped the bottom of the ol' money barrel. And getting from this point to the finished product is still something that involves a huge financial investment on our part. Immediately ahead now lies the final recordings, mix, cover design, printing, promotion and all the music videos we would like to do. All in all, we are looking at expenses totalling up to 22000€/23700$/19000£/200000 NOK from now and until until we release the album September 22nd. And since we're currently focusing all our efforts into making this album as monolithic as possible, your generosity will prove invaluable to us. Simply put, we cannot do this without you. We can make no demands, we can only hope this is something you'd like to help put into the world.
So what can we say about the album? Well, we have four new incredibly gifted musicians on board, and there's a buzz within the band that we've never felt before. In this current constellation, no idea is too too musically complex or too out there. With the new members, Major Parkinson has gotten a huge injection of inspiration, and we dare claim this upcoming album is even more uncompromising and adventurous than Twilight Cinema. It's darker, filled to the brim with strange musical landscapes and explorations, catchy and experimental, yet also coherent from start to finish. Two of the songs on the album break the 10 minute limit, which is a first for Major Parkinson. So we have zero doubt that this release will excite both new and old fans. But more than anything, we ourselves are extremely excited to soon release it into the world.
A big chunk of the album was recorded in the ridiculously picturesque mountain cabin you see in the video (and below).
The rest has been done in our own studio, whilst drum-rec and the upcoming mix and master is done in legendary Bergen studio Duper, with wizards Yngve Sætre and Iver Sandøy behind the wheel. Just like on Twilight Cinema.
Anyway, better than all these big, silly words, here's a few snippets from the recording to give you an idea of what this is all about.
So, in short, we hope that you find it in your heart to send some green energy our way, it would mean the world to us, and you can rest assured that your faith in us will be repaid in full.
Are we missing any pledges? Items, bundles and things you would like to see here? Mail us your suggestions at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will look into adding them. If you're unable to use VISA/credit card, send us an e-mail/message as well, and we'll try to find an alternative solution.
Risks and challenges
Scenario 1: We don't reach our target.
The album will still be finished and released in September, but failing to reach our goal in this Kickstarter campaign limits how much money we can put into the design/print process, and it also downscales our PR effort. For instance, it would pretty much guarantee that no music videos will be made.
Scenario 2: We reach our target
Peaches and cream! The final dash towards the finish line is made about 100% easier for us, and you'll see a full physical release in all relevant formats. We might not do MiniDisc, though.
Scenario 3: We exceed our target
See Scenario 2. Nothing better. All excess funds from this project will be put towards creating epic music videos from the album. The plans are ready, and you deserve to see those realised.
