Kickstarter uses Amazone payments... they even do not recognize my country Serbia but still use the old Yugoslavia which does not exist anymore... on top of that they do not accept (of course cards from Serbia)... I pledged 120 USD and want to resolve this.... give me a paypal link and it will be paid in 2 minutes..... open your horizon the net is global and not just American.

I thought the gazing chamber was definitely something that stood out to me, the way it was implemented to fit a in a digital space was smart. I can't wait for the three Abramovic Method games. I have been introduced to digital art a while back thanks to Aram Bartholl, I love his work, I think it's great that artists like Marina are looking into a digital not only for social media and promotion.

    5. Marina Abramovic Institute Creator on

Hi James! Thanks for the feedback. Did your experience in any particular chamber stand out to you the most?

    6. Jarl Grey on

Just made to the end of DMAI for my first time. People should understand that even though it's a "video game" you should go through it not as a challenge or a goal but an experience.

Congratulations, Marina Abramovic! I look forward to seeing what results from this funding. Use the funds wisely and save costs by seeking the help of volunteers? I'd give you some of my time for free just for the experience and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'm pretty sure i will never have a possibility to visit MAI or come to NY... But i couldn't just stand aside, so as a human and an artist i've supported this marvelous project.

      Art. I Am.
Happy to support in little ways the evolution of the human perception.
Interestingly most of anything as such, which derives out of the U.S. has a suspiciously religious ,snakes-oil selling inclinations.
But then again, Art. Is a form of religion. While religion is a very lucrative form of the art of mass deception. Art. I Am. 2.

I am glad to hear the "I don't have any intention to turn the institute into a religion, especially not the scientology." in one of your comments.
Because that is how at least some perceive it:
While I am skeptical, I did find 10$ to fund new scientific experiments into the human nature.
We need to explore ourselves in a scientific way.
Making people wear uniforms, remove their belongings, sign legal contracts to not leave the place for X amount of time and sensory-deprivation are methods known to make people submissive. So be careful, you might brake some fragile people with the MAI method. People leaving are likely to be in a heightened emotional state.
You mention crystals have a positive effect on you, from the "MAI neuroscience exclusives" I can read/see you have EEG readers.
It could be an interesting experiment to actually document if your brain is more relaxed when you have your crystals, compared to a week without them.
You have a good opportunity to scientifically document all the methods used by shermans for millennia: diets, starvation, sensory deprivation, isolation etc.
But as mentioned, you should keep it scientific, study and document how these things affect humans, so we as a society can use the methods as tools.

I also agree with your other comment: "Success and money should never be the reason why the artist is doing the work. Success is the side effect and should not change the artist's view of his own work. Or change his character. Or build his ego to be arrogant and unbearable. It's very important to learn the lesson, the more success you have, the more humble you should be."
That is also why some (including me) have a hard time with you naming the method and institute after yourself, it seems to be a craving for fame and immortality rather than staying humble. I would have preferred a more neutral name.

I look forward your your scientific findings.
Good luck with your great/long-duration work
      & congratulations on 100% funding

PS. Marina, try having a brain scan and see if you have "aspergers", it is a word covering a different structuring of the brain from the norm(neurotypical). That could be an explanation of your heightened intuition.

So far there are 4,420 backers and thus 4,420 hugs.

If every backer were to show up and if each hug were to last approximately one second, that would be about 1 hour and 15 minutes worth of non-stop hugging. Not too bad.

    20. Marilyn Morningstar on

      Dear Marina,
CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you will announce to all of us when you are in full swing. I would LOVE to experience you and your dreams! CONGRATULATIONS!

    21. Lisa Park on

      Dear Marina,

My name is Lisa (Yeon-Hee) and when I found out about MAI, it gave me goosebumps... I was so thrilled to know about this because I've been waiting for this to be happened. And I'm sure so many people are excited to see this happening in reality. I definitely support you and MAI and pledged some money into this project. I believe art has so much potential to influence the culture and to positively change the society. And I can see that in MAI in continuation of your previous performances.

For me, I began doing performances recently and it's been an introspective process. Because it requires my body to express myself, it becomes deeply emotional and personal. For the past years and for a long time, I thought I was who I am because of where I grew up, how I was raised, my culture, and my experiences. I think all these factors definitely shaped who I am. And I've been constantly battling myself, trying to find who I really am. But, I realized that the biggest challenge and struggle comes from myself, not my history, not my culture, not my family background.

That's the reason why I admire your works so much, because I know how challenging it is to do performance. And you've been doing this for years and years! I haven't had a chance yet to see your performances in person since I was living in the opposite side of America for many years. Now that I'm based in NY, I wish I could see your work in the near future. I really do want to help MAI and if I could be any help assisting MAI, please let me know. I would be so grateful to be part of this amazing project.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you the best wishes.

      With love and respect,

@Ariel, thank you for posting that, and yes the fact this project was funded is a huge feat, and I basically loved the project so much, but only pledged because I wanted a Marina Abramovic hug, just because, it's a very special gift, then when i saw this project was funded, it made me cry a little, just because it's such a beautiful project, there's a lot of love in and around this project.. it's good to hear the background of the building and Hudson, that adds a lot of character to this project, thanks again for posting that.

    24. Ariel Dougherty on

I know this building. The last time I was in it (over 15 years ago), it was a thrift shop. Hudson is a wonderful town for such a grand, invigorating and exploratory project. I love that audience is a central part of Marina's and MAI's work at this point. For many many years I have always claimed that funding--especially public funding--needed to include audiences in their decision making processes. In 1977-79, I was executive director of the Green County Council on the Arts. Then our offices were in Athens directly across the Hudson River from Hudson (the city). I've long thought that the ferry that used to operate between the two towns should be brought back. Congratulations on meeting your goal! No small fete!

    25. The Art Factory on

Lovely LOVELY beloved beautiful project, thank you very very much, every one who supports, which probably includes huge numbers of people who support in spirit but couldn't pledge for some arcane reason.. this is the biggest hug ever in the world so far.. wow.. the $1 hug level,is so sweet.. thank you again.

It makes me so proud and fills me with quiet joy to see that this has been successfully funded. Living in Japan, I don't know if I will ever have the chance to visit the institute, but regardless, you have inspired me in my music and performance art. In our increasingly digital world, where human relationships are increasingly happening through electronic devices and where attention spans are shrinking rapidly, I believe this kind of institute is incredibly important, special, and wonderful. You have inspired me and in the coming year or so, I hope to attempt a day long performance piece with my instrument, the shinobue, here in Wakayama, Japan. P.S. Thanks for being such a good influence on Lady Gaga. :)

I am so glad that we finally made it, i had backed for $450 USD with two different accounts and I am a 23 years old girl we had only graduated one year from a Fine Arts bachelor degree in HK, and just able to find a full time job recently, am so glad I did this!
Marina will you consider to come to HK to hug the HK backers? I think Hong Kong people is one of the busiest within the world, so your cleaning the house and Marina Abramovic method would be so helpful to them.
I still cannot believe that we finally made it! WISH The MAI EVERY SUCESS WITH THIS GREAT BEGINNING!
