THANK YOU all for the support so far! We were able to hit our target of $7,500.00 in under a week and it wouldn't have been possible without all of you! We want to make the best project we can and reward our backers so we're starting by offering the following stretch goal.

GOAL #1

GOAL #2

We wanted to add more of Francis' work into the project and thought this postcard would be a great memento of Francis' perseverance and desire to create.

GOAL #3

We've been getting good response on this image, so we're offering it as our 3rd Stretch Goal!

“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do." -Leonardo da Vinci

The genesis of this project actually started with some pretty bad news. In 2010 my good friend and colleague Francis Tsai was diagnosed with ALS, which is a degenerative neuralmuscular disease that eventually leads to paralysis.

At the time of his diagnosis he was really hitting his stride in the industry. Francis had published two popular concept art instructional books, been featured in various art annuals and landed huge clients such as Marvel and Warner Brothers Films. I thought it was such an unfair and cruel twist of fate that something like this happened to him.

Luckily, Francis is one of the most resilient and resourceful people I know because what he did next was one of the most inspirational things I had ever seen. When he lost the use of his hands, he began to paint with his toe on an iPad. When he lost the use of his feet, he began to create using eye tracking technology from Tobii. It was amazing, he had used an impossible situation to completely reinvent the way he created art and in the process made some of the best work of his career.

As I started sharing his story with friends and colleagues, I saw that everyone was as moved as I was. His extraordinary effort showed us that we could all be doing more to maximize our own creative potential and more importantly, our time. Francis’ experience  spurred us on to create those dream projects we all had languishing on the back burner. The projects that had the potential to truly move us forward but we had been too afraid to tackle.

If he could do what he was doing with everything he was facing, then there was nothing stopping us from remaking our careers and creative lives into what we truly wanted. "Good enough." is not enough. There were no more excuses.

This project grew over the course of two years across several cities from the Midwest to the west coast. It started as just a few friends posting work on a private blog, but grew in the making as more and more people wanted to be involved; eventually enough material was created that a book became a possibility.

You can follow this project on Facebook page or on our blog. There will be behind the scenes postings and updates as the campaign progresses. Thanks for taking the time to check us out and I hope you help support this project!

Our PRINTS are all produced at Gallery Nucleus and are Giclee prints on heavyweight matte paper, suitable for framing.

Everyone in "RE:INVENT" had their own personal journey to travel in the making of this book. Get to know the contributors as they go from where they are to where they want to be.

STEPHEN CHANG: From Star Wars to the real world. Having been a major contributor to the “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” franchise for the last 6 years, Stephen was ready for something more “real world”. The result was “What’s Next.” his exploration of what life, technology and culture will be like in the near future.

ANGELA ZHU: From advertising to fine art. Angela has left her imprint on the advertising industry by creating acclaimed designs and art direction for clients such as Google, IBM and Cirque du Soleil.  She is now pursuing the exploration of Chinese ink brush painting as well as developing her original children’s book, “Cloud”.

DERICK TSAI: From realizing the visions of others to realizing your own. As creative director of Magnus Rex Studio, Derick is usually working to help clients realize their vision. While stimulating, his own creative needs weren’t being fed. He finally took some time off to explore his passions, heritage and the subject matters he truly loved. The result was his puppet epic “Mythika”.

BEN ZHU: From concept artist to gallery owner. Ben was another one of our inspirations for the creation of this project. He was a concept and 3-D artist on “Call of Duty 1” until he started Gallery Nucleus in 2004. In “RE:INVENT”, Ben talks about balancing both his business and artistic selves through the creation of his event marketing materials for Nucleus.

CHRISTIAN DE CASTRO: From motion graphics to fashion editorials. Christian has worked as a motion designer on a variety of media projects including HP “Hands”, Justin Timberlake’s “Lovestoned” music video and several Fox Sports packages. He is currently moving into art direction by creating editorials that combine the worlds of fashion, art, and photography.

FRANCIS TSAI: From drawing and painting with your hands to doing it with your eyes. In 2010 Francis was diagnosed with ALS, which has gradually led to his paralysis. Since then he has learned how to make art with Tobii PCEye’s eye tracking technology. His courage, creative spirit and ability to reinvent himself was the inspiration for this book. We are honored to present his work and his story.

NOTE: 600 copies of the first edition of "RE:INVENT" will be made available through Kickstarter. If we are fortunate enough to pass this mark, we will go into a 2nd printing!

SHIPPING: Domestic shipping rates are included into the price of each reward, international orders please add the requested amount for each pledge bundle. Thank you!

We've been getting good response on this image, so we're offering it as our 3rd Stretch Goal!

In the end, why did we do any of this? The reason is that is our time here is very limited and we need to make the absolute most of it. Creating this book was a major wake up call for all of us. We saw that even though it’s easy to get caught up in the rhythms of everyday life and work, we really owe it to ourselves to take risks and maximize our potential to see what we can truly become. Where we are is not where we have to wind up.

We have brought this project to the Kickstarter community to share our story and our message. The creatives from the "RE:INVENT" project have taken the first steps in moving their lives in a new direction.  If you can relate to our experience in any way, it is our hope that this book lights a spark inside of you to do something about it. There’s no time like the present to do the thing you have always wanted to do.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

We'd like to thank PsychoHa Productions for creating our video, Tobii Technology for granting us the use of Francis' video and for creating the PCEye as well as Kevin Chan and the Gallery Nucleus Crew for their support.

And most of all, thank you to the Kickstarter community for giving independent creatives a place to share a project like this.

Thanks again for checking us out and please check for updates on our blog, Twitter or Facebook. We have also created a press release page for anyone wishing to write about the story. Please contact us if you need more information. Thanks!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Our main challenge will be getting all the books securely packed, the prints printed and into your hands. We also have some cool ideas for stretch goals, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Thanks for checking us out!
