The need for a Glass Lid?
Whisky! That delightful amber coloured dram which draws warmth, taste and aromas to any occasion. However, some of the joyful aromas are very volatile and will evaporate quickly.
Glass lids retain the aromas inside your whisky glass until you are ready to nose your whisky (or other spirit), allowing the full range of notes to be detected. No share for the angels - and keep the fruit flies at bay!
The need for a Magnifying Lens?
As we grow older, in our personal experience, printed letters seems to get smaller: On the bottle labels, in the newspaper, basically everywhere.
Our Magnifying Lid
So we came up with the now patented idea to combine the two needs into one product: The Magnificent, Marvelous, Magnificus Magnifying Glass Lid and Lens - or 330% enlargement!
One size fits (almost) all
The Glass Lid fits well to all glassware with a diameter of the perimeter of around 43-45mm (or 1.7-1.8 inches).
In particular, the lid fits very well with the famous Glencairn Whisky Glass as well as with the classic Copita glass which is traditionally used for sherry and port wine.
Glass sizes suitable for the Glass Lid
The Glass Lid is made of 100% borosilicate glass using the same precision glass moulding process that is used for optical lenses. The optical quality of the magnification is therefore very high.
A unique optical experience
Some might call our Magnificus Magnifying Lid a double convex optical lens. We call it a perfectly playful and useful product that serves a real purpose.
Team and Time Line
Our team consists of two avid whisky drinkers: Scott, designer, and Soren, engineer. Among us we have more than 50 years of experience in developing products. Based out of Copenhagen, we have been tinkering with this project for quite a while and the result is what you see in the photos and on the video: A fully functional Magnificus Magnifying Lid that aesthetically complements a whisky tasting glass.
If our funding is successful, we expect to be able to send Magnificus Magnifying Lids to all backers in April 2019. That's around 6 weeks after the completion of the live phase of this project.
Thanks to Glencairn Crystal Ltd, Scotland, for kindly letting us use their unique glass design and brand name in our campaign.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge was to find a factory that could manufacure the lid. Manufactures of glassware do not have the know-how to make optical component. We have found a company that makes high-quality optical components in borosilicate glass. They have made the prototypes shown in the campaign. They will also do the factory engraving of the small logo on the edge of the lid as well as the engraving for the customized lid.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
