For the past 7 years, I have produced tons of Magic the Gathering content. From opening packs, gameplay, strategy, lore and more I have had diverse video topics and made nearly 1,500 videos. Additionally, I have streamed countless hours of Magic Online (including completing the 365 day challenge), and now I have cooked up a new idea: Magic the Chefening. I want this to be my next major undertaking, and I would like you to help!
If this Kickstarter is successful, I will be able to produce the first season of Magic the Chefening and have it ready by early Winter 2017. So, what are you supporting?
Season 1 of Magic the Chefening
a. A complete first season complete with 10 dishes ranging from appetizers to entrées and desserts. The full menu is listed below.
b. These videos will be published weekly until the season is complete
c. Additional bi-weekly streams, behind the scenes videos and Kickstarter rewards, such as laminated recipes
For season 1 the menu is shown below. If the Kickstarter is funded, all 10 dishes will be included: one per week.
Additionally, there is a stretch goal of $750. If we reach that amount, three more recipes will be added to the season. These dishes are meant to be more complex in flavor and preparation and the reason why they are not included automatically in season 1.

After the 8-10% that is taken by Kickstarter, the remainder of the budget is allocated for three major costs of the project:
1) Cooking supplies
This includes dishware and cooking ingredients. As a broke graduate student, I have gotten creative (to say the least) when it comes to using kitchen supplies. A small portion (15%) of the funding goes towards purchasing a few necessary utensils to formalize the finished videos and the bulk (50-60%) will go to materials to make the dishes .
As opposed to most of my digital content which is done in a well-lit area of my apartment, a percentage (~$30) will be allocated to get proper lighting in the kitchen to ensure the best video quality. Additionally, a small amount goes towards an overhead tripod attachment.
3) Kickstarter Rewards
The remainder of the budget will support production and mailing of the Kickstarter rewards (laminated recipes being the largest cost).
Additionally, all advertising revenue from the project itself will be saved and used for funding a second season
If this funds, what happens after Season 1?
Well, to be honest, I want this to be less of a season-based project and more of just an ongoing video series. It's easy to plan big, but I want this show to grow on its own merit, rather than having to do a Kickstarter every season.
What if this doesn't fund?
If the kickstarter doesn’t fund, I won’t consider it a true failure. This has been an idea that I have been tossing around for about a year, and if the funds are not there, then it just means the interest for the cross cooking and MtG just isn’t there. The idea will likely be shelved until a later date or if future interest arises.
When will rewards ship?
Physical rewards will ship no later than January of 2018. All streams and behind the scenes content will be added as the season commences. If you hit the $100 reward tier, I will work with you to try and get the recipe added during the season, but it may take up to 1 month to iron out details, flavors and more.
Risks and challenges
The major difficulty is allocation of time. Being a graduate student taking a qualification exam in September, a lot of this requires pre-planning and time management. In order to compensate, I extended the start deadline until a time that I know I will be able to properly allocate the time to video editing, which is anticipated to be the major time sink of the project.
As you may know, when dealing with physical rewards, production delays can occur. In the case of any delays, I will work with our backers through this Kickstarter (or other means of communication) to ensure that everything is smooth.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
