WHAT WE'RE DOING:
In a nearly voyeuristic nature, the audience descends into the lives of three young adults preparing to go their separate ways after years of friendship. No sooner than the characters are introduced, they are thrust into a world where the nature of their experience is not what it seems. As psychosis sets in, the conditions of both their existence and relationships are turned upon its head. When perception is reality, who can distinguish what is real from destructive fabrications of the mind?
Our aim is to create a visually and emotionally compelling short psychological horror film on a nearly non-existent budget. "Psychesthenia" has been a labor of love for well over a year now and has evolved over several incarnations. The screenplay was written back in April of last year and, since its conception, was developed with a single goal in mind: to create a visceral emotional response within the audience that clings to them long after the credits roll. Whether it be positive or negative, clarity or confusion, the key is that it is still with you. In this way, the audience is able to share a sense of solidarity with our characters in their tragic plight.
HOW WE'RE GOING TO DO IT:
Every portion of the production has been meticulously developed to create a consistent thematic experience for the audience. We have set out to record our own Foley, composed our own film score, and created a slew of innovative visual effects in an attempt to turn our back on computer generated effects that have used as a crutch for so long in cinema. Every frame within the film will come from actual captured footage. While this is going to take considerable time and effort on our part, the final product will be a more rewarding and unique experience to the audience.
We have assembled an incredible crew with intense passion for what we are setting out to do. Our script is complete, storyboards are inked, schedule is set, and the majority of our set pieces and props are finished. All that's really left to do is shoot our vision...
...AND THAT'S WHERE YOU COME IN!
While the task of making sure our devoted (and unpaid) crew members are fed on set is important, it should be stressed that food is relatively cheap compared to the actual cost of our production. 100% of your contribution will directly effect the artistic direction of this film, thereby creating a much stronger impact on the audience.
We are dedicated to the idea that each effect, both auditory and visual, should be visceral and physical in nature. We feel that using computer generated effects and sequences are not only an easy way out, but also that true mechanically manipulated effects will always elicit a stronger reaction with audiences.
Second, we are enlisting the services of a local audio engineer to provide his expertise and handle all of the audio, both on the set and in the studio. For him to spend 4 days capturing our audio which he will then remaster for the DVD is no small task.
We also have several key pieces of equipment that need to be checked up and repaired before we can shoot. And if we're able to, fingers crossed, we can pick up a few miscellaneous odds and ends pieces of equipment that we would have to otherwise do without.
LET'S MAKE A MOVIE!
