Have a question?
Yup I am very disappointed as well.
Unfortunately started messing with both this and dungeonfog over this last weekend and I have to share Jacob’s sentiment. Pretty disappointed in the progress so far as a stand alone project, but especially comparably.
Consistent updates would help, keep us in the loop. Preferably monthly at a minimum.
Indeed. We're still working on it. If you're going to be at GenCon the two devs on World Engine will be at the booth #2048.
Sorry for the delays. The upside is that no-one's timer has started ticking as we've not moved out of the initial alpha build/phase.
Luckily I also backed Dungeonfog
Hi folks, sorry for the delay. Granger is working on the update to go along with the updates released to the alpha server. We lost a team member and I'm in the process of finding a replacement. (I = Owlbear)
You can try out the updated version of the tools here:
I'm sure Granger's update will cover the major changes!
Nearing the End of May... any updates ?
Weather delay? :)
Yes, we're still in Alpha. We had a bunch of delays from health to weather, etc. Still on task and moving forward. Fendruil is working on an update to the test server which we plan to roll out in the next few days (Monday is our target). We'll also be putting out an update to the KS to go along with it!
As to accounts. you can create an account directly from the alpha and then make sure it's associated with the same email as your KS account. This will let us link your pledge to your WE account.
Looks like we're still Alpha? Did I miss an email about creating an account or something?
Hi all, Owlbear here. The update is on me this time around but we’ve been with out power for the last day+. I’m solo’ing the CR12 kid weekend sans power (+ something to the CR I’m sure!). Soon as we have power again I’ll redo the update with status, info and the like.
Sorry for the long silence from the team and ill timed storm.
Come on guys, it's not that hard to spend 15 minutes crafting a short update.
Hey Scott, we're not intentionally quiet, just pushing hard to an update (hopefully next week).
Haven't seen any updates or emails for a while - just making sure I didn't get shunted off the list or something?
@Kurt Stoffer, There is an update coming out shorty. We're currently in the process of writing it up.
Any Update ?
Hi DiscoStu, We have an update coming out this week.
time for an update?
Hi Stephen, The overlays will be in the next alpha release or possibly sooner. We are working on that part of the application to allow for using hex or grid overlays to your maps.
Is there a timeline for hex grid support?
Thanks for your answer. I like what I see so far and look forward to more functionality.
Hi DiscoStu. The feature you're asking for is part of the library update that is still in the works. We're probably still a good bit away from launching that aspect of the application. Basically you'll be able to link externally stored art into your library to extend the tiles you can paint with adhoc.
So long as the link remains valid, the tile will remain accessible to you to use in your maps.
@DiscoStu, We will be supporting jpg's naively. Currently WorldEngine supports png and svg formats. We'll add the jpg format as soon as we finish getting our save feature smoothed out. As for the linked stuff you mention, that is a feature that lets you link you images, textures, tiles, etc. from a remote location, like dropbox, instead of having to import you images directly into World Engine.
Maybe that is the linked files thing that you describe a few posts down.
Hi! Planning on using this with Pathfinder and Roll20. I would like to take the original pathfinder maps from Paizo and using them as a guide, make the whole thing better with World Engine textures and such. Can we now (or sometime) be able to add in jpgs? I need a way to use the original map as a base.
@Stephen, thanks mate :) getting in a lot of practice with the design aspects of a huge range of styles and formats that I'll be bringing to World Engine sets. My campaign has done well, funded and is in the last 30 hours - still time to add some more SGs :)
Hi @Kris! Cool artwork! Glad to have you onboard! Looking forward to using your work to make maps for my miniatures games (Dropzone Commander)
G'day - I'm one of the artists World Engine has on board. I specialize in Fantasy but have been putting together a gigantic Sci-fi campaign. Meanders2 Wave2 Digital Sci-fi Terrain drops in 2 days time on the 21st May.
A preview is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gametilewarehouse/1602493010…
This will be the biggest sci-fi map project ever attempted and potentially over 145 giant new maps for Sci-fi RPG - but it also means that if World Engine decides to commission me, I can make either Fantasy or Sci-fi tiles for their map program with a ton of experience behind me in all manner of styles and settings for both. I hope to add Military, Zombie, Steampunk and other genres to my bow as I go and bring all my skills to the table when it comes to craft something for World Engine.
Filters and external linked files are definitely in the works for the full release. The library will let you link to external storage, like dropbox or google drive. doing so will let you access images from elsewhere and use them as textures for objects drawn in World Engine.
Filters which allow you to create special render effects on textures is in the works. Our hope is to have per-object and per-map filters. Right now, per-map works (mostly) and as the team gets closer to having the transition to the vector engine complete, we'll hopefully be able to apply the per object as well.
Don't get me wrong if I was a good enough artist and I had the right programming, and experience, I would love to convert the tiles to what I want the quasi dimensions to look like because eventually I would love to publish the adventure, and the others in the series but they don't require major map item reworks.
Will we be able to load things like scanned bitmaps of paper maps to build on top of? This is a technique that I use a lot in CC3 when converting old 1E and 2E adventures over to 3.5, and hopefully soon to Pathfinder. Also many of my old maps are paper but they are easier to convert because of them being my own creations.
Also will we be able to put full map filters in place? I have an adventure that I created that puts the players on multiple different quasi dimensions. I know that I can't recreate all of the tiles to convert them to what I want them to look like but a filter to change the mood is what I used in CC3.
Totally wasn't taking it as criticism :) I'm watching intently to see what they community responds with.
the thanks was heart felt sir!
That wasn't criticism of you, it was just a fun idea to keep the comments section going and keep the positive energy going for the development team. What games do we backers want to use this with? D&D and Dropzone Commander for me.
Thanks for keeping the channel going Stephen :) -- We'll likely go thru a few quiet periods just because when we're chatting we're not building!
(D&D - Spelljammer for me; Savage Worlds; Starfinder; Cthulhu by Gaslight)
Ok, it's too quiet here. :) Let's talk about what games we'll be using World Engine for. For me, it'll be D&D of course, but I also plan on trying it out to make 10mm scale city maps for Dropzone Commander.
What about everyone else?
Business is business, but in my book, family always comes first.
Folks are coming home tonight and tomorrow, so we should see everyone back in full swing in short order.
We do plan to open up a trello based bug tracker -- already in the works. Soon as the dev team feels comfortable with the flow on trello, we'll invite folks in for some solid collaboration!
Thanks for your well wishes, I know it means a lot to the folks on the receiving end.
Hope all is well with the team and their families!! Eager to get alpha access! Will you also open up a bug tracker so folks can help you improve things?
We're plugging away at the Alpha build. Getting the backend ready for the community to start using the system. We're targeting the next couple of weeks for opening the floodgates!
There were some emergency (personal) issues which came up that have taken some of the teams focus away, but the core timeline is unchanged.
Anyone know when the open Alpha/Betas start? I would love to try this for a game I am going to be starting soon.
Regarding Steven's topic, we were discussing this on Discord yesterday and the device he's considering will be fine (just to include the rest of you) -- Yoga BK X5-Z8550
Alpha access and we're working on it. We'll have an update with details and all that out today!
No? Nothing? What happened to the beta access when the kickstarter ened?
Hi Steven -- an Atom should be okay, but we'll need to do some research tomorrow and get back to you. We're not doing webGL at this stage, but we are pushing a lot of vector matrix math.
I'm a little bit curious as to what sort of processing/graphics requirements/recommendations World Engine is going to have. Thinking about getting an Ultraportable with an Atom Processor that has Stylus/Wacom support. But if this is going to be far from the power required for this software I wouldn't want to do that. Any idea what the user experience with something like this would be?
Sorry about the silence, I (owlbear) have been managing comments and was traveling for the climate march in DC.
I'm back now and getting the status from the team collated. We should be posting an update tomorrow or Friday with all the things !!
Thanks again everyone!
Does anyone know when the beta or alpha is rolling out?
