Wow. Thanks.

When I launched the campaign, I was fairly confident we'd get to our funding goal -- in 4 or 5 days. Doing it in 13.5 hours is just insane. I kind of feel like this:

OK, enough of that, on to business.

The best laid plans of mice and crowdfunders....

In war, no battle plan survives contact with the enemy; in this case, my battle plan didn't survive contact with fandom. I was greatly surprised not only by how fast the project funded, but also in the split between Basic and Premium backers.

On the Bubblegum Crisis project, the split was roughly 2 Basic backers for every Premium backer; so far on ONV, it is running 4 to 1 -- the other way! This changes things in some interesting ways.

As you know, this time our stretch goals are based on the number of backers, but because the basic/premium ratio was so different than I expected, we hit the funding goal with fewer backers than anticipated, which put the first stretch goal much further away than I'd like.

So to fix that, I am reducing the Cover Up(grade) stretch goal from 1982 backers to 999 backers (as I write, we are at about 730), and the Mini Manga stretch goal from 3967 to 1982 backers.

Currently I am going to leave the other stretch goals as they are, but each time we hit a goal I'll re-evaluate and adjust the goals (only downwards, of course). I want to be cautious in case the basic/premium ratio changes significantly.

I am also working up some new stretch goals and sweeteners; if you have some suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Tweet, my Pretties...

Getting the word out on social media is of course very important, which is why the size of the patch is based on how much you do. By funding the project so quickly, you killed one of the columns in the "bingo card"...

Our Otaku no Video Social Media Links Page has all the details on the goals and all the links you'll need to help achieve them.

Crowdproduction Begins

Now that the project has funded, we're not going to waste any time; those of you who have expressed an interest in working on the project should get email from me later today!

Price Stepdown

As mentioned in the reward descriptions, we'll step down the price of any remaining sketch/cel rewards every day at noon, starting today.

One last thing...

A little behind the curve on this one, but I'll say that I like the lower price points. Even at $50, I probably wouldn't have bought in to premium if I hadn't seen the awesome job done on BGC.

    2. Michelle Klein-Hass on June 4, 2015

Omedetou!!! Just found out you're funded, had to throw my $25 in too. I think people understand that this is a super-historic project, and that for the sake of Anime history (and Great Justice!) it needed to be funded. High-fives to all concerned!

    3. Robert J Woodhead 4-time creator on June 4, 2015

@Alex: yes, just email or message me on kickstarter and let me know what you are interested in doing. We are already up and running.

    4. Alex Whitaker on June 4, 2015

I expressed interest earlier but it took me a while to pledge because every time I remembered it was 2am and I was in bed with my wallet on the other side of the house :P
Can I still express interest in crowd production?

Congratulations on reaching the target so quickly! :) As I'm on a low income, I wasn't able to back you with anything more than about $75 U.S., so had to opt for the $50 Tier.

As for GUNSMITH CATS and/or RIDING BEAN, I'd definitely like to see them both on Blu-Ray, but I really hope you will do more Tiers between $25 and $100 U.S. please, and let those of us who would be willing to back you to the tune of $75, get our names on the on-screen credits too. :)

    6. Robert J Woodhead 4-time creator on June 4, 2015

Message about Gunsmith Cats received. Ninja spies dispatched. Ditto on the other titles.

We are of course talking to Mr. Sonoda about doing original work for the Bean project. I personally want him to design a custom keychain.

    7. Charli Hay on June 4, 2015

I'm thinking ahead for Riding Bean stretch goals already but it would be awesome if Sonoda drew a new mini-manga for Bean ~

So Gunsmith Cats seems to be pretty popular, and speaking for myself I would be more include to back Gunsmith Cats.

    9. Gene Haviland on June 4, 2015

I will definitely will get Riding Bean, but I agree with others that Gunsmith Cats would be great to have also.

    10. Nolan Schmidt on June 4, 2015

Riding Bean on Blu-ray! I'll be happy to back that too. Any chance of doing a Kickstarter Blu-ray treatment to Arcadia of My Youth in the near future as well?

    11. Michael Erpelo on June 3, 2015

RIDING BEAN?!?!?!?!? I am so definitely a backer!!!!!

    12. Alex Lai on June 3, 2015

Awww, yeah. Congrats on reaching the goal for OnV, btw. :D

    14. Troy Frey on June 3, 2015

Sorry I can't help out on increasing the size of the patch at all - I simply don't do social media sites and never will.

I'm not familiar with Riding Bean, but Baoh would definitely be a great one to do!

Maybe I misunderstood, it's just when you said you missed hand drawn Anime, it sounded like you thought Anime isn't hand drawn, you're probably clever enough to know it is, I just thought maybe some ignorant person told you otherwise.

    16. Abdullah Al-Khalagi on June 3, 2015

      @John
erm, don't feel so....not everyone knows internet lingo .... hehehe

Yeah, it would great if they ever remastered Gunsmith Cats for blu-ray in Japan so we could get that too!

      Riding Bean? Oh... HELL YES!!!

an awkward pause, I felt kind of stupid pointing out something so obvious.

I've seen the Japanese bluray of Riding Bean, the quality is spectacular. I'm confident I got to see it for the first time the way it was meant to be seen. ;) Made me wonder when the heck Gunsmith Cats was gonna get a bluray release though!

      @Robert

      1. Congrats..

      2. I will back this new anime Riding Beans since I love old style hand drawn anime...any chance of getting "Golden Boy"?

      3. How about retro packaging for 75 or 150$? by this and as mentioned to you earlier, the Blue ray case will be plastic or carton VHS box @ 75$ with the insert or Laser Disk packaging at 150$?

    25. Nathaniel Silverthorn on June 3, 2015

      Riding Bean????? YES PLEASE!

Happy you met your goal so fast. Also like your choice on next title. I agree Baoh would be a good choice for a future release. Personally would like Oh My Goddess OAV myself.
My 2 cents on the ratio of premium to standard compared to BGC might be the price along with what is included compared to the other release.

    27. Robert J Woodhead 4-time creator on June 3, 2015

@Norbert: In the war between "what I think I can get" and "what I think is fair", I tend to err on the side of "fair". That said, if someone comes up with a killer idea for a reward level in the $75 or $150 range, I'll certainly consider it.

    28. Norbert Haponik on June 3, 2015

Congratulations on successfully raising funds for another awesome anime KickStarter, and I can't wait to get the Premium set in my hands at the end of the year!

Also wanna add the same feelings as Jeanne Hedge that "both the Premium and Patron levels were priced too low and should have been bumped to a higher price point, with a different goodie package replacing the current $50 tier (which would have been bumped to a higher amount)." [It wasn't just you ;)]

Nice to find out what's next in store for us after this project and you'll have my support for it (Premier Edition all the way!), however, my guess was Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer, I'm crossing my fingers for it to be a future project.

Am going to echo the sentiment here. I was one of the basic backers (that might change, but as I'm not a *huge* fan of ONV, I'll likely stay where I am, just backing to support Robert, really. Now Riding Bean, I can definitely get behind! Going to again echo and say "if we could get Gunsmith Cats with it it would be pure awesome!" I know ADV *had* those rights back in the day (I still have their Bulletproof DVD release) but as that company has split apart, if Funimation didn't pick up those rights, it may still be out there. Would be amazing to bring Bean and Rally together!

    31. Milspex on June 3, 2015

Yeah for Riding Bean. Previous poster mentioned a Baoh kickstarter. My god how cool would that be, i still have the Animeigo laserdiscs

    32. Phillip O'Connor on June 3, 2015

Thanks for the update, I must say I'm surprised by the split between basic and premium. I'm going to have to assume that the bulk are people who've already seen the show and are happy to pay extra.

      Also,

thanks for listening to myself and others about Riding Bean. One of my favourite AnimEigo titles. Now, if we can get a KS for Baoh.... ;-)

Riding Bean!!!! Can't wait, wish we could get gunsmith cats as well, but I'm assuming the rights are tougher. Whatever happened to them with the demise of ADV?

Wade Spradley on June 3, 2015

Nice! Riding Bean on BluRay! I wonder if these kickstarter campaigns will slowly wedge the anime studio doors open for AnimEigo to acquire more options in the Anime Universe that would not normally get the light of day on a newer visual medium?

    36. Jeanne Hedge on June 3, 2015

I'm surprised at the surprise over the Basic/Premium ratio. Basic is bare bones, as it should be. Premium has a lot of goodies at a price most people can handle. People went for the goodies. I personally thought both the Premium and Patron levels were priced too low and should have been bumped to a higher price point, with a different goodie package replacing the current $50 tier (which would have been bumped to a higher amount). But that's just me. Grumbling about ratios aside, you made a lot of people happy with the price points you did select.

    37. Jeanne Hedge on June 3, 2015

Bean, huh. Not on my wish list, but at least it should be a quick turnaround for AnimEigo, being as it's only a one-shot 45 minute OAV. Now if GSC were in the package as well...

    41. Jerker Löjdmark on June 3, 2015

Congrats on the hitting the goal so quickly!
As for the ratio between basic and premium backers, I think it comes down to the price. For BGC, I went in on a similar price level as this, except this time I netted me premium instead of basic.

Also, Riding Bean is fantastic news!
