Division: Throne Room is a strategic card and dice game for 1 or 2 players. You'll recognise the King and his courtiers from chess. But this game is not fought on the battlefield. This is an internal fight for the throne.
After years of brutal conflict, the battle to dominate the chess board is over and victory is glorious. The King and his courtiers, battered and bloody, march home to the Dark Territories. The ageing King rests his Greatsword against the throne and slumps onto the soft, reassuring padding. His rest will be short-lived. The battle outside the walls may be over, but the conflict within the Palace is just about to begin.
Have you got what it takes to seize the throne?
All cards are 'standard poker' size. The dice are 16mm. The game will be delivered in a mini drawstring bag. We may be able to improve components via stretch goals.
Check out the Artwork section at the bottom of the page for some high resolution images.
We kept the rule sheet nice and compact so it fits snugly in the bag with the cards and dice.
In the 2-Player game, you and your rival are competing to bribe, blackmail and bully the courtiers into a configuration that'll aide your own efforts to seize the throne. Completing all of your Palace Cards before your rival means you have successfully ousted the King and taken the throne for yourself.
Shuffle the Courtier Cards and deal them into a 3x3 grid. Shuffle the Palace Cards and deal four to each player. You can alter the length of the game by using more or fewer Palace Cards. You could even handicap a more experienced player by dealing them more Palace Cards.
The objective of the game is to manipulate the Courtier Card grid so it matches your own top-most Palace Card. Win by completing all of your Palace Cards before your rival.
Players take it in turn to roll both custom dice and move one corresponding Courtier Card. If they match the Courtier Card grid to their top-most Palace Card, they can discard the Palace Card and take another turn. Otherwise, play moves to the other player.

Here's a brief animation of the gameplay. The game elements have been organised to show the game setup and a single turn, with a completing action.
Please note that there's no audio in the above video.
In the 1-Player game, you are playing against the Silent Hand. You won't see or hear from this shadowy syndicate, but they'll always be in the background, manipulating your resources and affecting your influence. This is represented by your limited dice rolls.
Shuffle the Courtier Cards and deal them into a 3x3 grid. Shuffle the Palace Cards and place the deck next to the grid. Leave some space for a Throne Pile and a Silent Hand Pile.
The objective of the game is to manipulate the Courtier Card grid so it matches your top-most Palace Card in a limited number of dice rolls. Win by completing more Palace Cards than the Silent Hand.
You have up to 3 dice rolls (6 dice) to complete each Palace Card. Roll the dice and move up to two corresponding Courtier Cards. If you manage to complete the Palace Card within the 3 rolls, move the Palace Card to the Throne Pile, otherwise move it to the Silent Hand Pile. If, after attempting all the Palace Cards, your Throne Pile is larger than the Silent Hand Pile, you win. If not, you have failed to seize the Throne... this time.

We love simple Kickstarter campaigns. Stretch Goals and tonnes of reward levels can cause timescales and costs to spiral out of control.
If the campaign goes really well then we'll announce some simple Stretch Goals as they become possible. These could include larger dice or improved game bag\box.
We have three reward levels. These reward levels will get this awesome game to you in the shortest time possible and for the best price possible. The rewards are Standard, Deluxe and Group.
The game comes with printed English instructions. If the campaign goes well and we receive feedback from backers about other languages we'll consider these on a case-by-case basis. Foreign language instructions will be provided in digital format.
We're working with such an awesome fulfilment partner that we can offer great shipping prices to LOADS of countries.
We are able to deliver World Wide, however if you're in an area we feel is logistically problematic you'll see this reflected in the shipping costs.
We've worked hard to make the game as accessible as possible. None of the game cards use text so are fully accessible and language independent. None of the gameplay requires the identification of colours, and all the game cards have icons to help people affected by colour blindness. Digital instructions will be available online for people with impaired vision.
Normal dice pips have been added to the Courtier and Reference Cards. You'll only need these if you misplace your Custom Dice.
We're also working on a companion app that will allow people to play Division: Throne Room and other Division titles without needing the Custom Dice and Palace Cards. In fact, as long as you have access to some Chess pieces, you can use them and the app to play.
Notes about the app:
- NO CAMPAIGN FUNDS ARE BEING USED TO DEVELOP THE APP. The app is being developed by MAD Games, not a 3rd party developer.
- The app is very early in its development and will, most likely, not be ready for the completion of the campaign.
- The initial release of the app will not contain full games. Some physical game components will be required to play. Full games may be added to the app in the future. Because of this, we're planning on charging a small fee for the app.
The artwork for this game was created by the incredibly talented: Paskal Millet. You can find him on Facebook here.
Risks and challenges
Please note that we cannot offer refunds to backers. If the campaign is successful, your money will go directly to manufacturers. If you're unsure if you can afford the game, please remove your pledge before the campaign ends.
The game is 100% complete, so there won't be any delays caused by creating more artwork or designing additional components.
We have manufacturers standing by. Production times can be effected by the number of units that they need to be produced, and other projects they're involved with. We'll keep in constant contact with the manufacturers/suppliers and pass all relevant updates onto you via Kickstarter notifications.
Another 'unknown' is the proposed exit of the UK from the European Union (Brexit). No one knows what's going to happen when the UK leaves the EU (if at all!). We'll be keeping a close eye on the Brexit situation and we'll keep you all informed if anything effects the campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
