The Allcade Itty Bitty Series (8,16 and 64 Bit Allcade) is a new addition to our existing product line. The Allcade 5000 is a full sized arcade system with the classic Joystick and push button action (and we did away with the coinslot!). The next system was the Allcade 1000, because not everyone has the room to have a full standing cabinet system in their home. The Allcade 1000 simply hooks up to your TV via HDMI Cable and power source.
While working on another project (The Blotendo) the idea was born for the 8Bit Allcade. Could we make everything fit into an old Nintendo Cartridge? after a few quick measurements, we decided to make it happen.
The first attempt was a crude mockup, but worked pretty well. We were able to get games playing, but could we do more? With a few tweaks to the system, we were able to simplify things so that the average person could pick it up, plug it in and start playing. Now we’re getting somewhere.
To get the feel right, we started to look for controllers and cases that would work perfectly with each system. Slowly but surely, we’ve been able to piece together everything that we need in order to run an emulator with the full classic feel we remember from decades ago.
The 8 Bit Allcade comes in a classic NES style Cartridge with at least One 8 Bit Allcade Controller and the power supply.
The 16 Bit Allcade comes in a classic SNES style Cartridge with at least one 16 Bit Allcade Controller and the power supply. The 16Bit Allcade is Backwards compatible and will play all 8Bit Games.
The 64 Bit Allcade comes in a classic N64 style Cartridge with at least One 64 Bit Allcade Controller and the power supply. The 64 Bit Allcade is Backwards compatible and will play all 16Bit and 8Bit Games.
All of the Allcade systems are powered with a modified Raspberry Pi 3, made to fit into the case of choice. You can add more games to the emulator via a USB drive and our customized operating system will instantly recognize and install new games.
Each system comes with:
- 1 pocket sized console, ready to plug in and play.
- At least 1 Controller designed to work perfectly with the console you choose.
- 1 power source and cord for your console and controllers.
- At least 1 retro style game, that is open source and ready to play.
- The ability to drag and drop your gaming files onto your console via USB flash drive.
Just plug in and you're ready to play. Its that simple.
Building custom boards is not cheap. To keep costs as low as possible, a minimum order is required.
Reaching our campaign goals will cover the costs of the minimum orders, prototyping, and provide us with everything we need to stock up our shop and be ready for continuous production.
Risks and challenges
The 8Bit and 16Bit Allcade systems work great and are ready to ship. The 64Bit Allcade is backwards compatible, meaning it will run the 8 and 16 Bit games with no problem. There are however a few 64 bit titles that will push the limits of our system and may lag without specific tuning to your system.
Check out our daily videos to see real world game play of all 3 systems.
