When I was 9 I read my first Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet. Almost 7 years on I'm just as entranced with his works as I was on that fateful day.
In October of last year, I was selected to be part of Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand's Young Shakespeare Company 2019. I'm one of just 24 young New Zealanders heading to Shakespeare's Globe in London this July to undergo three life changing weeks of training. But here's the thing, I can't get over there without your help. In order to participate, we have to raise the funds for our travel, accomodation, and living expenses while we're there. While I'm very lucky to have a job where I'm able to make a substantial portion of the money, it's just not enough to cover all of the costs.
Here's where you come in!
I didn't want to just do a crowdfunding campaign to raise the money, so I've decided to create an event. On the 1st of April (which also happens to be my birthday 😉) I'm holding a movie night extravaganza at the Roxy Cinema! I've decided that I really want to show Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. It was the film my Grandfather sent to me along with that first play script, so it holds a very special place in my heart.
The $4,000 goal will cover costs, as well as make me some revenue, but the more I can make the better! I want to put 160 bums on seats, so please feel free to share the event details with your friends. There will be drinks and food available, an auction, maybe even some music, oh and did I mention it's a masquerade evening? Embrace your inner Baz and kitsch it up, or go no holds bard with something completely outrageous. Dare I say surprise me?!
I really hope to see you there, stay tuned for more information and updates soon!
Roxy Cinema, Monday 1st of April, from 6:30pm
Risks and challenges
While it's all looking like it will come together, worst case scenario I can't get the rights to that particular film, and I have to screen something different. If I don't get anywhere near enough people, it's quite expensive to rent the space, so I'd probably have to move into a smaller cinema, but I can't foresee that happening :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
