This is the Wingback wallet. Its a custom wallet, made and hand stitched in Bristol in the UK. It's designed to help you keep life simple, ditch the inessentials and have easy access to the things you need all the time.
Each wallet is laser cut and etched with your own personalisation. It's available threaded in a colour of your choice or as a kit so you can get creative and stitch it up however you like.
We've gone to every effort to make sure this product is great quality and personal. We searched almost 100 natural leathers, spent hours optimising the laser cutting and etching process and we're even hand letter pressing the packaging.
It’s not much larger than its contents, can fit up to 5 cards and a has a wing which holds your notes securely.
Our aim is to offer a unique product to everyone.
We are in the midst of a transformation in the way we design, make and use the objects that we depend on. It is affecting commerce, industry and the way we live as profoundly as any previous industrial revolution.
The old system of mass production ensured the cheap fabrication of identical objects, but is becoming increasingly redundant. New digital manufacturing methods, coupled with online marketplaces, open source design and social networking are creating a new world, where the boundaries between the designer, maker and user are becoming blurred.
We are entering an era of mass customisation, where small companies or even individuals can make objects that were previously only viable through mass production, and we can tailor each product to individual users.
We’ve created the Wingback wallet to offer something unique in a market full of over priced and indistinguishable products. We really wanted to involve the user as much as possible, to create something they could be a part of and end up with a product they would cherish.
Creating your Wingback
We want to offer as much customisation as possible, to make a product that is unique to you.
1) First choose your leather
We found three perfect natural leathers with a combination of great durability, a lovely tactile feel and different textures, grains and stiffnesses depending on your preferences. They are designed to wear in and will develop a distinguished patina over time.
- Chestnut - 3-4oz, soft and supple to the touch, the most flexible of the three with subtle natural markings. The etching shows your personalisation discretely.
- Ochre - A 3-4 oz slightly stiffer leather with a textured grain and bold black etching.
- Charcoal - A slightly thicker 4-5 oz fine grain leather with subtle etching and a soft texture.
2) Decide if you want to personalise it. You can have up to 20 characters on the outside and up to 35 characters for a message on the inside.
3) Choose the kit or finished option. With 8 different colours of thread and a blunt needle in the kit, you can put it together yourself. Alternatively you can receive it professionally made with a straight stitch of your chosen colour.
A quick lesson in stitching
We’ve made the kit as easy as possible to put together. The holes are laser cut so all you need to do is tie a knot in the end and feed it through the holes. We'll provide a few instructions to help you. How you stitch it and how many colours you use is totally up to you.
We’ve gone to every effort to make sure we provide an incredible product for you. We hand finish every wallet before sending them out and each one comes delivered in a hand made letterpress package.
All the leathers we’ve chosen are natural, and may contain natural markings. Dont worry, these imperfections are subtle and we think add even more character to the product.
Thanks for checking out our project, we hope you like it. If you have any questions before pledging please send us a message and we'll answer you as soon as we can.
Risks and challenges
Every project has its challenges. We've done everything we can to ensure there are no holdups. Everything we can think of has been planned; from refining the laser cutting process for each leather type, to delivery of packaging materials and letter press inks.
This being said we can't be sure we've predicted every circumstance. Where we are now, the biggest risk to you, the backer is a slight delay in delivery if we encounter any unexpected issues.
Our promise to you is:
1) You will get your wallet.
2) We will work every hour possible to meet or beat the expected delivery date.
