Machiavellian – help us create the ultimate luxury sleepwear range for men
Machiavellian has a simple mission. To create the most luxurious pyjamas in the world and bring style back to men's sleepwear.
I’ve spent over a year designing the first range, which combines modern vivid designs and the luxury of silk printed on the banks of Lake Como by Italian craftsmen. Handmade in England by the same workshop that makes shirts for the British Royal Family, these pyjamas are true works of art – and through Kickstarter you can be the first to own a pair.
The Machiavellian story
I’d been involved in designing men’s fashion for over 15 years and was amazed to find that luxury men’s sleepwear hadn’t changed much since the 1940s. Designs are subdued and quality is often lacking when it comes to the finished garment. Even higher priced sleepwear fails to excite consumers used to wearing handmade luxury clothes during the day and evening. High end men’s fashion has moved on, sleepwear has not.
So that’s why I’ve created Machiavellian. It is a completely new British sleepwear brand set up especially to address this need for luxury and fun when it comes to pyjamas. Our range of all silk sleepwear trousers have been designed completely from scratch. We’ve taken the idea of using bold fun colours from contemporary men’s swimwear and applied them to luxury sleepwear.
We have 5 prints in our launch range they include a beautiful iridescent peacock in electric blue, an exotic scene featuring multi-coloured birds and an updated version of classic male tie patterns available in either vivid yellow, chocolate brown or midnight blue. All the prints have been designed to flow across seams and around the shape of the sleepwear to give maximum visual impact.
We’re using silk as its natural properties are ideal for sleepwear - keeping the wearer cool in summer and warm in winter. As beautiful inside as out, the sleepwear features re-enforcing panels at all major stress points and French seams throughout. The fly is triple covered for privacy and the garment is constructed with a mini self fabric lining at the front. There is no visible over-locking to mar the lines of the internals.
What makes Machiavellian sleepwear different?
No expense has been spared when it comes to our sleepwear. We’ve travelled the world to bring together the best materials and artisan craftsmen to create Machiavellian. All the companies involved have a long tradition of producing truly opulent garments:
·Our silk is printed on the shores of Lake Como in Italy by a company that works with some of the most luxurious brands in the world, delivering a vibrancy of colour and sharpness of detail that is unparalleled in the market
·The pyjamas are made in London by an artisan workshop that also manufactures for leading Jermyn Street shirt makers Turnbull & Asser, suppliers to Prince Charles and James Bond!
·The design was perfected over many months, working with one of the most experienced pattern cutters in England.
·Our horn buttons are laser etched in Britain and the sleepwear can be monogrammed by Hand & Locke, the most prestigious hand embroidery firm in the world who supply embroidery to royalty.
With a background in both fashion design and entrepreneurship. I've been around luxury fashion since interning at Alexander McQueen (along side a young Sarah Burton!) whilst still studying at St Martin's. Since then I have designed menswear for prestigious luxury brands including Burberry & Reiss. I led men's design for Pringle, managing the Gold & Red label ranges & the bi-annual Milan catwalk shows. Over my career I've travelled across the world seeking out the best garments, fabrics & manufacturers. I believe I understand the luxury market, its supply chain and what this demands from designers.
I’m also co-founder of the international design marketplace TheRagTrader, which links businesses to freelance designers, and real-time global trend tracking site Zeitgeistt, so I have business experience to go with my design credentials.
What we’re looking for on Kickstarter
We’re really excited about the potential of our new range, but luxury production is expensive so we need to raise £10,000 through Kickstarter to fund development of the sleepwear. In return for your support you’ll be the first to experience the sheer luxury of Machiavellian sleepwear – at prices that are well below the RRP of £700. We’ve got a full range of rewards – from silk pocket squares in our patterns all the way up to the chance to work with us to design your own unique pyjamas.
We can’t turn this project into a reality without your support. Help us to bring luxury back to men's sleepwear. Not only will you earn our eternal gratitude but you’ll have the chance to be the first to experience Machiavellian luxury at prices well below RRP.
How can I help?
As well as pledging donations, we’d love it if you could help spread the word about our project. Email, Facebook, Twitter - whatever you prefer! You can access all of these via our homepage at machiavellian.co.
We’ve put a list of Frequently Asked Questions on our Facebook page, but if you have any queries don't hesitate to contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our sleepwear and pocket squares are available in the following five prints.
We would like to thank the following people. Without their hard work and time this wouldn't have happened.

Bevan Goldswain - Who gave us a great welcome and provided everything we needed including excellent coffee at dizzyfinchstudio.co.uk
Chris Measures - Who helped us get the PR ball rolling - measuresconsulting.com
Westh-Hansen - Whose track 'Early Evening' we used on the video & can be found on SoundCloud - soundcloud.com/westh-hansen
We thank you all!
Risks and challenges
I’m not new to this… I haven’t given up my job in investment banking in order to pursue my dream of being a fashion designer. I’ve designed luxury menswear & led teams for over a decade. I understand the processes & pitfalls of bringing garments to market.
Still I know that experience doesn’t completely eliminate all risk.
Securing an early production slot with the manufacturer is the biggest risk.
The factory is in high demand & until I know exactly how many pyjamas I need to produce, they can’t guarantee a delivery date.
In any case they are as excited about this project as I am & will do everything they can to make sure we can get your garments to you as quickly as possible.
Bond will just have to wait for his next shirt.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
