The party game for the texting generation. Read more
Have you ever been to a party where people were more focused on their phones than on the fun? Well, how about making those phones part of the fun! Introducing Swipe Awry - the party game for the texting generation.
We are creating a card game that requires the use of devices with *swipe-type keyboard input (devices not included). Each card will have an original text message that needs to be swiped into the device and then passed on to the next player or team member (you don't actually send the message). **The catch is that you can't watch the result of what your are swiping. The results are sometimes not what you expect and can even be very hilarious.
There will be various ways to play the game, ranging from a single group to multiple teams. If it catches fire, we plan to make theme packs and even trivia options.
*You can look here for more information on swipe-type input. This one talks about it on Android but it is available on other platforms like iOS also.
**With swipe-type input there are errors that occur due to human mistakes and even misinterpretation by the software. By blocking the input display (and thus preventing manual correction) we are able to take advantage of the errors to make the game more challenging and fun.
Our family LOVES to play games! We play card games. We play board games. We play electronic games. We play sports. Yes, we are a very competitive bunch. We are always looking for new games to play.
However, we do tend to get too focused on our phones and sometimes get distracted from all of the fun at hand.
AN IDEA IS BORN
On a recent trip to Utah for Dad's chemotherapy treatment, Mom and Dad were texting the kids back home. The messages tended to be not quite what was intended and in fact were somewhat comical. We got thinking of how we could turn this into something fun for our game-addicted family. Along with the fact of having too many party-pooper phones, we came up with the idea to use the phones as part of the fun. We could have an original message and see what happened as the message went from one person to another. As the idea grew, we thought of putting these messages on cards so that we wouldn't have to come up with them every time we wanted to play. Thus, the Swipe Awry card game was born.
The concept is similar to the "telephone" or "gossip" party game where you whisper a message from one person to the other and see how it has changed when it gets to the last person. The difference is you use a device to transfer the message from one person to the other.
Each group or team is required to have at least two devices that have swipe-type keyboard input. Also, you need to have something that will block the display except for the keyboard itself.
The first person of the group or team draws a card, and with the rest of the display blocked swipes the text into the device. The device is then passed to the next person who removes the block and views what was swiped in. On their device, with the display blocked, they swipe in the text that was on the device passed to them. This continues until the last person has swiped in text. The display block is then removed to view the final result and compare it to the original text.
You can have fun just viewing the transformed text, or you can play for points. Points can be awarded for speed, accuracy, or whatever else you can think of.
The deck will come with 52 playing cards and 2 instruction/option cards. The playing cards will have an original text message and also a Maarkkushere result message (which can be used to award points for getting closest to that result).
Most importantly is HAVE FUN!!
Thank you for your support.
Risks and challenges
The risks are very minimal and are basically related to production of the cards. If we get major backing, production could have a delay, but we are committed to sending out the rewards in a timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
